I no longer have any faith in anything resembling party politics at national or local level. My main comcern I've voted for is budget & taxation, but I'm really thinking in terms of how much of it is wasted on none essential interference in life.

I think they are all as bad as each other to be honest and think most of them are about as corrupt as it's possible to be!!

The main thing for me is Health they are planning to close the A and E dept at Grantham hospital which means that it will be at least 30 min drive before you can get any treatment considering we have a main train line and a major North/South road which oftern has major accidents!!! people are going to die because of this and it's happening all over the UK. Shocking stuff if you ask me!!

to bloody right! plus all the farmers (the most dangerous profession) and quite a few large factories in grantham. apparently we'll end up with a 'small injuries unit' which if newarks is anything to go by (so i hear) there's a long list of stuff you can't go there for (obviously you need to check this while the patient waits! )and also it's said that if a kid falls off a bike and is injured, outside the hospital, the ambulace must take the kid to boston or lincoln!:rolleyes:

Not all over the country as hospitals in many marginal constituencies have been granted reprieves! I wonder why

I worked in Newark, lived in Elston, and my little lad fell into the fireplace. Newark accepted him into casualty and patched him up without him having to traverse the country.

when we were discussing it at work, we reckoned that if you rolled up they wouldn't turn you away. good to know it's true

Having lived in the US these past 19 years I have lost touch with UK political scene. However, I'm sure it's the same as here, insofaras the politicians will look after themselves by taking care of those who bung enough and who are backed by the rich and powerful or the block voters. Nevertheles I will vote since it's the only thing I have that has some sway in the way this country/city is run. Those who don't vote, should never complain.

I find it strange that the economy is up there as most important issue yet Labour only have one vote.

Taxes are going to be high whoever is in power but it's only Labour who will keep our economy stable and enable one and all to carry on living on the never never!

Remember our services have to be paid for one way or another and if the tories lower taxes they'll have to borrow the money to do so, then they'll have to raise interest rates to pay the money back!

.........and this time around there'll be no nationalised industries to privatise so the payback will be a lot sooner then last time!

Anyway remember it doesn't matter who you vote for the government always wins

I suddenly remembered how long ago it was since we lived there *gosh :o * and Casualty could well be shut by now...so I retract everything, they were great six years ago :D

What about "the environment" etc?

At least "other"!

What about the environment? Everyone knows it's just a topic politicians discuss to take up time on talk shows. I hate the environment and it's my damn poll!

Sorry, I'll add it in for you Cis

:P:D

Not surprised by the poll so far, current poltics\politiicians have created a mess and divided society, there is not issue or area which the public are satisfied with!!! People have started thinking about extremes and that's where the BNP come into things!! :(

Just because casualty is a 30 minute drive doesn't mean you are not going to be tended to any slower!

Paramedics these days are fully qualified in dishing out any treatment you will need at casualty(obviously there will be some exceptions) but I'm sure a risk assessment will have been done before the decision was made.

It's not very often that somebody dies in an ambulance and those that do will most probably have died anyway.

You can read all the bad press you like about the health service but the facts are that the NHS is in a better state now then it's ever been.

Possibly, but it's rated 6 from the bottom on a world-wide scale?

NHs is audited yearly internally and externally, I know for a fact that the royal infirmary has not improved from there internal audits!!!

The other option is all out privatisation and believe me you don't want that.

Having lived in the New York and experienced the health service they have over there unless your insured you may as well not have a health service.

The uninsured are something like 5 times more likely to die of cancer then the insured and I don't believe anybody would want that.

Ask yourself this question are thing really that bad under Labour!

Not really, the UK is one of the strongest economies in the world etc, but the average man is concerned with what happens is on there door step etc, and that's where the government has failed, not to add the cash for peerage scandal, they have been tarnished goods and the constant squabaling etc!!

Again as I said you can read all the bad press you like but the reality is that around the country the NHS has improved.

Some hospitals do overspend but it's up to the trusts to get their acts together and ensure they don't!

Nothing to do with press, I know people who work for the audit dept at the royal, and things have infact gone down in clinical standards etc, too many foriegn nurses, not qualified enough, clinical procedures\standards haven't been improved for the last 10 years, hygiene standards are poor, old in frail are at risk, blag, blah!!!

In terms of money, staff pay rise got barely inflation rate, yet directors and board get average of 11% from what I can remember!! I have many friends and family that work for the NHS, including my wife, mis management of funds is rife, too many middle management, too much 'protecting' one's own and one's funding goes on, patient care comes bottom of the list my friend!!!

Posted

Then ask yourself how better is it going to get under the Tories!

Not likely, but people want change, we've had labour for too long, and have failed for too long. Conservative's maybe worse, I wouldn't trust David Cameron with the sweat from my piss!!! <_<

I would spoil my ballot paper- I believe everyone should vote, but I do not think that any of the above would do any good for the country.
