Foxello Posted 12 October 2006 Posted 12 October 2006 We did spend a fair bit on players that season Yeah like 400,000 grand on Elvis Hammond
Manwell Pablo Posted 12 October 2006 Posted 12 October 2006 Yeah like 400,000 grand on Elvis Hammond 225,000 wasn't it? 500,000 up front for Hume, 350,000 up front for Fryatt, Smith's loan....theres over a million gone.
Babylon Posted 12 October 2006 Author Posted 12 October 2006 We did spend a fair bit on players that season How much do you reckon? £1.5m? Still looking at a 3m+ loss I reckon.... if my complete guesses over the figures turn out to be correct

Still looking at a 3m+ loss I reckon.... if my complete guesses over the figures turn out to be correct Maybe a bit more, one of Fryatts add on clauses has been activated hasn't it so theres another £150,000. we payed about 250,000 for Gilbert and probabley at least 200,000 for Sylla and Hamill.
Thracian Posted 12 October 2006 Posted 12 October 2006 For such a bunch of fools to show a seven figure profit in this day and age is no mean feat. Okay the parachute payments have gone but the club seems to be operating prudently and the value of the squad can only be increasing with the young players coming through as they are. The sale of Connolly's been mentioned but it is clear we could have sold Stearman and probably Kisnorbo (plus peripheries) had the board felt it was urgent. I've said all along that the most imporant things are to keep increasing our asset value (the players/property) and to try to put bums back on seats. The first seems to be happening and the second is where the problem lies. Even 5,000 on the crowd - perfectly feasible with the right football and public promotion - would reap £2m plus extras. By showing such figures and pursuing their young and hungry policy the Board are also ensuring and demonstrating that the club is ripe for potential investment. By my rough calculations a few weeks back the club's assets presently far outweight its liabilities. Simplistic, I know, but If the debt is fixed at, say, £18m and Belvoir Drive is worth £8m+ and the squad £10m+ (taken over the next, say two years because they'd never be all sold at once) then it seems to me we've got a stadium and its ongoing businesses in for nothing. That's hardly a cup of woe for any football club. No wonder Mandaric thinks he might be onto a good thing and clear reason why I wrote (in vain, sadly) to my son on the subject. I have every faith in the club, espcially at the rate property values are going up right now, and these figures do nothing to change my mind. Mind you I'd quickly want to correct the reserves situation and get them playing reuglar and purposeful matches because, right now, too many of our assets are not being challenged enough and are losing fitness and, with it, potential form.

Yes, but your rough calculations had players who have made less than 15 league apperances going for 7 figures.
Thracian Posted 12 October 2006 Posted 12 October 2006 Yes, but your rough calculations had players who who have made less than 15 league apperances going for 7 figures. I'm perfectly happy with the cautiousness of my valuations, given all players being fit.

Thracian Posted 12 October 2006 Posted 12 October 2006 good for you. Someone's got to have a bit of belief.

Even 5,000 on the crowd - perfectly feasible with the right football and public promotion - would reap £2m plus extras. Unlikely. Gate receipts of £4.82 million on an average of around 22,000 suggest that 5000 extra would give you a little over a million.

Mr Thac! Well said, at least some people have a little bit of common sense, that we have a Debt that we can service our other assets/business is going up in value . When we went to the wall we had nothing we now are starting to add value to the club and have some real talent coming thru Sowing the seeds of success takes time. I feel we need the players also to be 'challenged and throw the guantlet down to them and well its the same players we had last year at the end (bar one or two) so the form will improve and I'd be questioning ROB KELLY if he didnt get 100% from each player. Lets see what he brings before the festive peroid. More bums on seats + extras does = more stability and of course some pennies in the transfer kitty. ****ONE POINT**** We should be transparent on if we pay ANY fees for players as I feel this COULD be wasted revenue where we could look at our youth team first!

So you are perfectly happy that to service our debt we have to sell out best players each year. That is what Thracians plan is... then if it gets too much we can sell the training ground. GREAT!!!

I don't think we will be buying any players for a long time (sans Mandaric any way) so I shouldn't worry about that. Sowing the seeds of sucess takes indeed but our accounts show we're going to have to sell at least a million pounds worth of talent each year in order to stay afloat. How are we going to move forward?

That is what Thracians plan is... then if it gets too much we can sell the training ground. GREAT!!! That is exactly what I made of what he said, but I think what he meant was if the club did fall into sticky times financially then we have assets we could sell to generate money to keep the club going.

How are we going to move forward? We wont. We will stay a mid to lower mid team until we go down. But Milan will come...wont he?.....

Based on next season, counting each fan as inputing £20 on ticket and programme but not food/drink. 5000 x 20 = £100,000 per match. 23 matches = 2,300,000. I suppose it would be lower for season ticket holders but new fans are hardly likely to be that. Whatever the final take it's certainly a big enough incentive to play the right football and to go out and get them.
Monk Posted 12 October 2006 Posted 12 October 2006 Hello whats this? A thread spinning positivity on our finances? SURELY NOT? The measurement of profit which a football club should focus on is its operating profit - ie do not take player sales or purchases into account. Reason I say this is that its all very well us being 'profitable' but we need to meet the weekly cashflows like wages, bills etc. If we are comfortably covering these things then I would happily separately look at how the increasing value of our young players could help bring in more experienced and benchmarked players over the next few seasons.
Knighton Matt Posted 12 October 2006 Posted 12 October 2006 If it means you end up in nick for a few months and I don't have to read the drivle you post on here all the better.

More of the same failed approach then or are you talking proper playrs?
Ajax Treesdown Posted 12 October 2006 Posted 12 October 2006 Til next season when we are playing League One football (unless Mandaric arrives).
Steven Posted 12 October 2006 Posted 12 October 2006 Davies, the club's highest-paid administrative employee, saw his total pay package, including pension contributions, reduced by 18 per cent to £161,000. If I had known that I could get a well paid job (he earns even more than me ) by investing in the Club like he did then I would have done so as well. I understood he put 100,000 in in the form of remortgaging his property and how that investment has paid off.

Whatever you do you are doomed to constant criticism.
