Knighton Matt Posted 12 October 2006 Posted 12 October 2006 If we have money for loan signings after all, why the **** are we getting a left winger and a striker who played on the left wing last season when our central midfielders and right winger have been atrocious all season? Could have put the money into getting Hendrie instead. With a decent midfield, even our strikers should be effective. And if Kelly has no faith in Hammond, Dodds or O'Grady to replace Fryatt, what are they still doing at the club? We can't afford passengers. The whole thing is a shambles.

It doesn't suggest he's dealing with the priority problems at all, unless he wants to move Levi inside.
dandannieldanok Posted 12 October 2006 Posted 12 October 2006 It doesn't suggest he's dealing with the priority problems at all, unless he wants to move Levi inside. Moving Porter inside wouldn't be a good move. He isn't physical enough to play in the middle, especially in the championship. This doesn't mean in any way shape or form that I believe Hughes and Johnson get stuck in enough.
Thracian Posted 12 October 2006 Posted 12 October 2006 Bell, Batty, Bremner were among the small central midfielders I can remember and with Porter they all have certain things in common - their ball control, ability to turn quickly and accuracy of passing. I've seen Porter play left wing, right wing and in midfield but he looked comfortable in all three positons and positively dictated games for the reserves in central midfield like no-one else I've seen in City's present squad including Weso. His only fault seemed to be a tendency to fade in the last 15 minutes. He took plenty of knocks during that time and I never recall him complaining once or getting intimidated. Nor have I seen struggling to cope physically in the first team. I just wish we had more players capable of playing off him and with him, especially midfielders and, of course, our left backs.

If Porter is going to turn into David bloody Batty then I'm giving up football for good - that'll be the last damn straw

Chrysalis Posted 13 October 2006 Posted 13 October 2006 I am at a loss with whats going on right now, a week ago we had no cash, suddenly there is some now fryatt is injured.

I'm actually getting pretty ****in' tired of all these, very average players being brought into our squad to no avail. I kind of reminds me of the job Little had when he came across, a team packed full of similar ability players with no one catalyst to build a team around or at least provide us with direction to which we can start to make progress. We seem to be stuffed full of players with who, as fans, we're still waiting to perform. Everyone on here seems pretty knowledgable but most views on here conflict with the preferred team, formation, how effective our young players actually are, which only goes to show the complete directionless disarray we're actually in. I agree a lot with Thracian's views on concentrating on the youth for nothing if that it seems to be the only focus we have as a club right now. I haven't got a clue who to play as the most effective midfield. God knows what strike force we should play now Fryatt's injured. Pre-season talisman COG now looks Cr*p. The midfield is well, w@nk with no 'actual' performers not counting 'encouraging' displays from the youth and to top it all seems we're bringing in a bloke who did little last year (welsh) and another striker to add to the list of average players we already have, oh and Asaba. Sorry rant over no real point made but had to get it off my chest.

Even if we sneak a win over Southampton, Leeds or Palace you can't help feeling it's just papering over the cracks until we get a settled team for whom winning becomes a habit. It's hard to get excited by results like the Sunderland and Birmingham ones when you know games like Hull and Colchester are bound to happen over and over again until this club gets an almighty kick up the arse by someone who may or may not share a first name with an Italian city.
steve_wilson101 Posted 13 October 2006 Posted 13 October 2006 I am at a loss with whats going on right now, a week ago we had no cash, suddenly there is some now fryatt is injured. Would we have got some insurance money for Fryatt's injury? Just a suggestion - I'm clutching at straws
The People's Hero Posted 13 October 2006 Posted 13 October 2006 Would we have got some insurance money for Fryatt's injury? Just a suggestion - I'm clutching at straws Would it be worth claiming? I believe there would be an eel deductible involved. Not even sure whether the players are insured against injury anymore. I think it was an area the club have cut back on following administration. Even if we did claim, we'd only get his wages for the time he's been injured (or a proportion thereof) plus perhaps treatment/diagnosis costs, depending on the wording of the contract. In any case, it would be a substantial payout like I believe we got for Eadie, Matt Jones, Matt Elliott etc.

Simply not true. LCFC was one of the better insured clubs, player wages wise whilst we were in the premiership and our first season down in the Championship (premium was no doubt paid before admin hit). We got a good payout when Matt Jones 'announced his retirement' and from what I understand, there was a fair amount of pressure on the lad, from the club to do so.

As a man of the world and of insurance I'll bow to your superior knowledge and will try not to listen to terrace gossip in future. Did you know we are going to sign Heskey on loan today.
gatesheadfox Posted 13 October 2006 Posted 13 October 2006 unless he is going to play porter on the right getting Welsh is a bit of a stupid idea. a waste of time really. our midfield is pretty dire but we are unwilling to change it significantly, even if we brought in someone like gerrard i think kelly would insist on playing andy johnson instead.....as far as i can remember johnson has never been a great player, so how can he be keeping his position out of reputation is beyond me. i'm expecting another draw tomorrow and it makes it so depressing thinking of spending a day travelling there and back to see an indifferent performance once again
