New "Manwell" currency

I thinkl there should be a new goalscoring currency to accommodate Manwell's views and to prevent strikers feeling their life's work is wasted.

Because Manwell doesn't presently seem to recognise any contribution outside the Championship or the Premiership I propose the following for the purposes of debate.

a) All Premiership goals count as double when converting to Championship status.

b) Championship goals obviously stand on their own, except when scored by an inexperienced under 20-year-old in which case 1.5 goals should be counted as one because it's obviously down to beginners luck.

c) Divison One goals are counted as half a goal therefore two are needed to make a Championship goal.

d) Division Two goals are one third of a Championship goal.

e) Non League goals are one tenth of the Championship goals as such players cannot be talked of in the same breath at Championhip players.

f) Non League goals scored by under 20's should be one twentieth of a Championship goal so they don't get ideas above their station before they've had chance to muster 15 years senior experience.

g) There should be a steward's inquiry into any non-League player scoring 100 goals and potentially getting enough credibility to get noticed.

Good luck everyone! :thumbup::thumbup::D:D:D

You can take the piss all you want and I do accept that this is just a bit of fun (it did make me grin!), but if you really believe it's equally easy / difficult to score a goal in the Ryman League than it is the Premiership you're just retarded.

You can't argue with the underlying point that ALL players who play at the top level have either come through youth ranks or from the lower leagues. They had to be given an opportunity to play at every level they have performed at otherwise they wouldn't be there. Simple.

Just what I was thinking!!!

I'm with Manwell on this.

Just because players may be prolific at youth or Conference level doesn't necessarily mean they will be so in the Championship.

It also doesn't mean players can't make the step up either.

And it certainly doesn't mean they won't. Apart from Hume we've not got one first team attacker (including all midfielders and wingers) who could complain about being replaced by someone with an eye for goal.

The performance of the support players in this respect is worse than awful and has been plainly reflected in our results for ages now, including last season, apart from the departed Joey.

Shrewsbury 3-0 Rochdale

Goals from Leo Fortune-West, David Edwards and Stewart Drummond saw Shrewsbury to victory and lifted them into the League Two play-off places.

Rochdale, unbeaten in nine games, were undone after Fortune-West's superb volley inspired a fine Town win.

Edwards made it two, heading home Derek Asamoah's lofted pass, before Drummond headed in Ben Davis' cross for a third.

Danny Reet hit the bar late on for Dale's best chance as the hosts took their own unbeaten run to 14 games.

Shrewsbury: MacKenzie, Hall, Langmead, Hope, Ashton, Davies, Drummond (Mike Jones 83), Edwards, Tierney, Asamoah (Symes 80), Fortune-West (Cooke 80).

Subs Not Used: Shearer, Burton.

Goals: Fortune-West 48, Edwards 65, Drummond 78.

Rochdale: Gilks, Ramsden, Stanton, Goodall, Perkins, Muirhead, Doolan, Crooks (Turnbull 64), Rundle (Reet 55), Murray, Dodds (Dagnall 55).

Subs Not Used: Rigby, McArdle.

Booked: Reet, Perkins.

Isn't it strange how silent the Louis Dodds fan club have suddenly become?

True but a striker who is prolific at a lower level stands a good chance of making the step up. A striker can only score against what's in front of him, with what's behind him, and if he can score 20+ a season with a conference midfield (or our midfield, there's not much difference) behind him, why can't he do it at a higher level? Finishing is finishing at the end of the day, and players like Kevin Doyle prove that scoring ability can be transferred from a lower level to the highest level.

Each player should be judged on his individual abilities and attributes. There is no telling if a player can definately step up but you do seem to get a vibe/feeling/whatever when a certain player trots onto the pitch from the lower leagues. Its almost that they are punching way below there weight and need to step up. Then there is the other side where a club like Birmingham let Andy Johnson go in a deal as makeweight to bring the mighty Clinton Morrison to there club. The rest is history.

BTW, I can remember watching some ITV show years ago when Kevin Phillips came on for Watford and scored and good old Jimmy Greaves started raving about him even though he had not played that much football. He looked like the type of player who could step up and you get the same feeling about S****horpes Billy Sharp.
