lookwhaticando Posted 26 October 2006 Posted 26 October 2006 Dunfermline set to appoint Levein Craig Levein is expected to be announced as the new manager of Dunfermline Athletic on Thursday. It follows Jim Leishman's decision to step down from the role and return to his previous post as general manager. Levein met Gavin Masterton, the club's major shareholder, on Wednesday night after his name was put to the board as an ideal successor by Leishman. An agreement in principle was reached with the Raith Rovers manager and a formal announcement is imminent. Levein took over at Raith Rovers just a few weeks ago, and was working without a contract. The Livingston manager John Robertson was also put forward as a potential candidate by Leishman. However, it's understood that Livingston have a clause in Robertson's contract demanding £50,000 compensation should he leave for another club. Craig Robertson who had been Leishman's assistant at Dunfermline, will stay on the coaching staff at the Fife club. BBC Football | Dunfermline That didn't take long. Good luck to him, back in the SPL. Perhaps Dunfermline have enough cash to take some of our players away? Doubt they could afford Maybury or Douglas, but there's still hope at least.
Ric Flair Posted 26 October 2006 Posted 26 October 2006 Good luck to him. He might of under-achieved at Leicester and refused to accept his mistakes but he also did alot of good things for this club. He took no shit from the free loaders such as Dublin, Keown, Makin, Blake, etc and tried to piece together a young team on a fairly tight budget. I know he also bought alot of dross in but he did still have the bollocks to go out and splash the very little money we had on players such as Hume, Fryatt, McCarthy, etc. I have no problems with Levein and wish him well. Levein was also the man behind getting players like Stearman and Wesolowski in to the first team. All the best Craig and please come and do us a favour by taking Douglas, Maybury, Sylla and Hughes off us.

Jon the Hat Posted 26 October 2006 Posted 26 October 2006 Good luck indeed. I can't help being irritated by the bloke though, remembering the same old platitudes after each defeat...
Thracian Posted 26 October 2006 Posted 26 October 2006 Start of our revival in my view. The club is far healthier now than before Levein arrived. More people are starting to appreciate what we've got here, Kelly is showing signs of looking to attack more, the squad is increasingly made up of assets instead of liabilities, crowds are good and starting to be entertained more and there's starting to be a bit of buzz about the place. Kelly might have galvanised all this but it was Levein made the first moves. I hope he learned something here and that he does well at Dunfermline.

vanfox12 Posted 26 October 2006 Posted 26 October 2006 He can have the lot for a fiver, if he can afford their wages. Didn't he get paid off the rest of his contract when he was sacked? No one wonder he can afford to take jobs at Clubs like Raith and Dunfermerline.
holly Posted 26 October 2006 Posted 26 October 2006 although he was crap for us i do wish him the best of luck!!
Libertine Posted 26 October 2006 Posted 26 October 2006 What a club whore. But yeh, good luck Craig, hope you wen alort of marcheez.

No one wonder he can afford to take jobs at Clubs like Raith and Dunfermerline. That's usually what happens when you sack your manager - he got at least a season and a half's pay. Raith wasn't exactly a rich job, but there should be income at Dunfermline for him, it is an SPL side afterall.
Matt Posted 26 October 2006 Posted 26 October 2006 He'll do well in the "better than the championship/english football" league! SPL - Micky Mouse league...and he thought he'd do well in management in England
Joe. Posted 26 October 2006 Posted 26 October 2006 Good Luck??? Why? He was our clubs worst EVER manager, even worse than Peter Taylor or at least on par. If we'd have kept him we wouldn't be playin West Brom and Sunderland, we'd be playin Leyton Orient and Forest. He was the worst thing ever to happen to this club. I will certainly not be wishing him luck...

For a start it wasn't just Taylor couldn't manage it was the fact he spent wasted £25m, Money that was a reason MON left (He asked for money to spend he got none and the Celtic job popped up) at least half (Give or take) of Levein's signing are ok/coming good and he didn't spend (any?) money!
sackmycook Posted 26 October 2006 Posted 26 October 2006 good luck to him, wish he had done well for us, seemed like a nice guy.

But, at the end of the day, what's the point in having a good squad if you can't motivate them? Look at Leeds, they've actually got some half-decent players who'd probably walk into most Championship starting XI's, but they've got absolutely no desire or motivation to play and do well for the club. That's why they are where they are, and it's why we were where we were towards the end of Levein's reign.
Tubes Posted 27 October 2006 Posted 27 October 2006 the man did a lot of good for us aswell just luck at the players he brought in excusing a couple good luck craig
lookwhaticando Posted 29 October 2006 Author Posted 29 October 2006 Now he's going to Dundee. Levein poised to replace Brewster Craig Brewster's tenure as Dundee United manager will come to an end this week, BBC Sport understands, with Craig Levein favourite to take over. But Brewster could make a quick return to management with former club Dunfermline Athletic. Brewster might have saved his job had the SPL's bottom side beaten Falkirk on Saturday, but they were hammered 5-1. Dunfermline had held talks with Aberdour-born Levein, who is presently manager with Raith Rovers, last week. But it appears that he was waiting to see if Brewster could save his job with a victory at Falkirk Stadium. Brewster appeared resigned to his fate as he talked after the latest defeat. Jim Leishman stood down as manager of Dunfermline after their 4-0 defeat by Hibernian on Monday. The two-time Pars boss immediately targeted Levein as a possible successor, only for the former Hearts and Leicester boss to decide against joining his local club. Levein took over at Second Division Rovers this season without a contract on the understanding he could move if there was offer from a larger club. It is believed that Levein would have preferred to have brought in his own backroom staff had he joined Dunfermline, who wanted Leishman's assistant, Craig Robertson, to remain part of the set-up. However, Robertson was left to be caretaker as the Pars drew 1-1 away to Hearts on Saturday. They could return to Brewster, who was a player at East End Park before a successful spell as player-boss at Inverness Caledonian Thistle. Brewster is likely to want to take his Tannadice assistant, Malcolm Thomson, to Dunfermline. Meanwhile, BBC Sport understands that the Dunfermline players have a preference for Caley Thistle assistant Donald Park. HaHa. Bit of a managerial merry-go-round north of the border at he minute. I've also stumbled across the reasons our team performances were negative, boring and useless under CL... "Dunfermline had held talks with Aberdour-born Levein, who is presently manager with Raith Rovers, last week."
NFFC Chris Posted 29 October 2006 Posted 29 October 2006 Good luck Craig, wasn't good enough for Leicester but your a good manager in your own country and will do well ar Dunfermline.I certainly agree with his policy of signing younger players and feel most managers should do it as well.
lcfc_jme Posted 29 October 2006 Posted 29 October 2006 He needs to make his mind up on where to go, settle down and get on with the job. Good luck to him when he finally does all of this
davieG Posted 30 October 2006 Posted 30 October 2006 Dundee it is. Dundee United moved quickly to fill the managerial vacancy at Tannadice by today naming Craig Levein as Manager. Craig joins the Club on a two and a half year deal, starting immediately. Craig Levein gained 16 full international caps for Scotland, before injury brought a premature end to his playing career. He soon made a name for himself in a coaching capacity and had highly successful managerial spells at Cowdenbeath and Hearts, where he took the Club to third in the SPL whilst implementing major cost reduction measures. He left Hearts for Leicester City and has recently been assisting Raith Rovers on a non contract basis. Craig had an agreement with the Kirkcaldy club that meant he could leave if a suitable offer be received. Both parties welcomed the appointment. Dundee United Chairman Eddie Thompson said, “I felt it was in the best interests of the Club to move swiftly and appoint an experienced Manager without undue delay. I have made extensive enquiries with knowledgeable people in the game and Craig Levein not only comes highly recommended in every category of the criteria set by the Board, but has a proven track record and an excellent reputation for man management. He also has extensive contacts in England and abroad and these will be important as we look to strengthen the squad in the next transfer window. I am delighted to be able to announce his appointment today.†Craig Levein said, “I am delighted to join Dundee United and to be back in the SPL. I wish to put on record my thanks to Raith Rovers over the last few weeks, but when Mr Thompson spoke with me about this job I felt I had to take the opportunity to come here. I fully appreciate the scale of the task before me but I am confident that I can help Dundee United to climb the league. I am under no illusions that there will be an easy quick fix, but I would not have taken the job if I did not believe I could make a difference nor would I have considered coming to Tannadice if I did not believe that there was a determination to succeed within the Club. "I have some experience of managing change at clubs and I’d like to assure United fans that based on my previous experiences and my initial impressions at Tannadice, this is not a club ‘in crisis’. The infrastructure is sound, the budget is reasonable, there is a determination to succeed and the playing squad is better than the league position suggests. There is a lot of hard work ahead but with the support of everyone with Dundee United’s best interests at heart, I am confident for the future.â€Â
lookwhaticando Posted 30 October 2006 Author Posted 30 October 2006 Well done Craig. Now come back and pinch some of the 'stars' you signed. You can have Douglas for 5k, Sylla for 10k...
Dr The Singh Posted 30 October 2006 Posted 30 October 2006 Well done Craig. Now come back and pinch some of the 'stars' you signed. You can have Douglas for 5k, Sylla for 10k... I have a feeling he will go for douglas, on loan maybe!! But the guy was a failure interms of results, he's probably more suited to the scottish league, and I forever wish to never see him back in the english leagues, for his sake!!
lookwhaticando Posted 30 October 2006 Author Posted 30 October 2006 I found this little interesting bit of information in his profile @ the DU website. Club From To Games Won Drawn Lost Pts/game Cowdenbeath 17.11.97 01.12.00 127 46 26 55 1.3 Pts/game Hearts 01.12.00 29.10.04 170 74 41 55 1.5 Pts/game***** Leicester 01.11.04 25.01.06 72 20 26 26 1.2 Pts/game If he had managed to replicate his 'success' at Hearts - 1.5pts/game, in a full season in our league he'd have amassed 69 points - which would see us finish shy of the play-offs. Perhaps he really wasn't as good as he was billed all along.
Leonisco Posted 30 October 2006 Posted 30 October 2006 Now he's going to Dundee. HaHa. Bit of a managerial merry-go-round north of the border at he minute.
