Manwell Pablo Posted 29 November 2006 Posted 29 November 2006 Once was enough Manwell. I'm not sure you should be ridiculing a guy over his phraseology. Can't you maybe give a list of his considerable achievements or describe some of the awesome football his Liverpool team produced in his playing days or his Newcastle team in his managerial days. Most Knowledgeable on Football-like! Like a Acadmeic would?
l444ry Posted 29 November 2006 Posted 29 November 2006 Granted Newcastle did play some nice stuff but untimately they won...........................erm fcuk all! He was bankrolled at Newcastle and Man City and echived nothing in terms of honours! Now I'm not saying we should be expecting Sir Alex or Jose to rock up at the Walkers anytime soon but perhaps someone with a proven track record of getting out of this division would be nice, assuming Kelly does go of course?! I don't think someone who underachived with a blank cheque book would be ideal, thus ruling out Robson and Keegan! Having said that I would imagine Milan Mandaric will do things his own way (he always has) and knowing him to not be media-shy reckon his first managerial appointment could have Jamie Redknapp written all over it! I alsio expect him to be sacked by the end of February and replace by Rudi Voeller! mmmmmmmmmm I love Special Brew!!!! Very true that Keegan was bankrolled Frankie. But Newcastle have been bankrolled ever since and have never reached the heights Keegan did. So called tactical geniuses such as Dalglish, Gullit and Souness have never got close to equalling Keegan's achievements there, despite equal bankrolling. Also, at Man City they had gone through about 15 managers, all of whom failed. Keegan put them back where they belonged, and in style. Fulham enjoyed promotion with him. These things cannot be taken away from Keegan. And all through this the football was entertaining. There weren't many knockers at the time he was appointed England manager. Alright, he failed there, citing lack of tactical nous. But how many people would admit to a thing like that and actually resign like a man as he did?
lookwhaticando Posted 29 November 2006 Posted 29 November 2006 JUST SAY NO to the following footballing tosspots: Bryan Robson Iain Dowie Alan Perrin David O'Dreary Graeme Souness Dave Basset Howard Wilkinson

I wish Robert Kelly had a "nothing in terms of honours" list as long as this one of Keegan's: AS A PLAYER (Including a treble): * 1972/73 League Championship (Level 1) * 1972/73 UEFA Cup * 1973/74 FA Cup * 1974/75 Charity Shield * 1975/76 League Championship (Level 1) * 1975/76 UEFA Cup * 1976/77 Charity Shield * 1976/77 League Championship (Level 1) * 1976/77 European Cup Runner Up * 1973/74 League Championship (Level 1) * 1974/75 League Championship (Level 1) * 1976/77 FA Cup at Hamburg: Winner * 1978/79 German Bundesliga Runner Up * 1979/80 German Bundesliga * 1979/80 European Cup [edit] England Newcastle United Winner * 1983/84 Football League Second Division (Level 2) Promotion AS A MANAGER: Newcastle United Winner * 1992/93 Football League First Division (Level 2) Runner Up * 1995/96 FA Premier League (Level 1) * 1996/97 Charity Shield * 1996/97 FA Premier League (Level 1) at Fulham Winner * 1998/99 Football League Second Division (Level 3) Manchester City Winner * 2001/02 Football League First Division (Level 2) He was variously known as the "Geordie Messiah" and Newcastle United's "best ever manager" and his team was known as "The Entertainers". **** Perhaps most important he has twice lifted a team out of Championship football as champions. Mind you I don't know if he's interested any more - so you might be right.
lookwhaticando Posted 29 November 2006 Posted 29 November 2006 Say YES to any of the following: Nigel Worthington (he's been promoted before, you know) Kevin Keegan (magician) Martin Allen (young, upcoming manager) Alan Curbishley (experienced) Mike Stowell (rock 'ard, passionate)
Stevosevic Posted 29 November 2006 Posted 29 November 2006 Say YES to any of the following: Nigel Worthington Kevin Keegan Martin Allen Alan Curbishley Mike Stowell  Worthington? you make me sick. i live in Norwich and if you want to continue to watch boring defensive football then Worthy is your man Norwich fans had wanted him out a long long long time before he went.

He got them promoted don't you know? You can't say they weren't fun to watch in the Premiership that season... I mean, Fulham hit six past them.
Ajax Treesdown Posted 29 November 2006 Posted 29 November 2006 Say YES to any of the following: Nigel Worthington No fooking way Kevin Keegan Not too bad Martin Allen Not now Alan Curbishley No.1 Choice Mike Stowell Get rid of him
Fez of Mahrez Posted 29 November 2006 Posted 29 November 2006 I know I've done it before but... meh so what. The same Kevin Keegan who is repsonsible for the following...... 'Danny Tiatto is not going to make a mistake on purpose' It's like being able to look into the future. <_< I don't care who takes over as long as they bomb out all the crap and focus on our key players' strengths. But then that's far too sensible and we'll probably end up with yet another shitemeister presiding over many more seasons of codswallop.
Thracian Posted 29 November 2006 Posted 29 November 2006 The same Kevin Keegan who blew a 12 point lead and resided over some of the most totally inept England displays ever? Yeah, that's the one!!!!! Yes, to come runner-up in the Premiership. Tell you what, let's back him til we're the 22 points clear at the top of arguably the top League in the world and just bring Kelly back then to organise the run-in as if it were an anti-relegation dogfight. He might not win but he'd get a draw or two somewhere and that would probably be enough.
lcfc_jme Posted 29 November 2006 Posted 29 November 2006 Suprised this thread is still going! Kelly is clueless at the minute. He doesn't know what he has to do in order to stop us being such an easy side to beat. Yet it is quite obvious to everyone else. If we're not careful, Kelly will be given Milan's money in January, bring in a whole heap of sh!t players and play them week-in, week-out as he has previously done with Low and Johnson. That'll make us a much worse team even with Milan in, and we could well still get relegated.
lookwhaticando Posted 29 November 2006 Posted 29 November 2006 I reckon we should build the team around a core of players. Namely McAuley, Kisnorbo, Wesolowski and Hume. If these four players are fit and sharp, the rest will fall into place, if we play to their strengths. Simple really. Whether Rob does this or some new manager remains to be seen.

Hopefully Weso will stay fit (yeah right) and then maybe we will be on to something A new manger in and i think we'll be OK.

gosfox Posted 29 November 2006 Posted 29 November 2006 Kevin Keegan......Great Player.....Crap Manager. He even admitted himself that he was tactically naive...nice bloke though
chili_con_carne Posted 29 November 2006 Posted 29 November 2006 Mandaric might be contacting managers already to see if they'd be interested. I think once the takeover is complete, he'll give Kelly two games to prove himself and then if theres no improvement he'll be sacked. That's why he has to start thinking about it, so he can get a new manger in ASAP following Kelly's sacking. I still think it will be Curbishley - he said he wanted a new challenge and this is without doubt a tough challenge. And with a strong backing financially.

Glen_lcfc Posted 29 November 2006 Posted 29 November 2006 I shall keep my faith in Kelly too - for the moment - I feel that the next 3 games will be crucial to him - as excuses will surely run out if we fail to take 3 or more points from Wednesday, Wolves + Barnsley. Ever the optimist though - I believe 9 points is within our reach here. Come on Kelly sort it out quick...
Daggers Posted 29 November 2006 Posted 29 November 2006 Go on then, tell us. Maybe RK will read it, and then he'll know too. I don't see an awful lot of constructive comment in your post either
jumbo mills Posted 29 November 2006 Posted 29 November 2006 Kevin Keegan......Great Player.....Crap Manager. He even admitted himself that he was tactically naive...nice bloke though took newcastle to the brink, he cannot be that bad
Lord Nibblington Posted 29 November 2006 Posted 29 November 2006 took newcastle to the brink, he cannot be that bad Maybe. But look at the players he had to work with then. And look at the players he'd have to work with here. Can anyone honestly say they can see Kevin Keegan working well with our comedy geniuses? I mean, what the hell would he make of Elvis Hammond for a start?
Fez of Mahrez Posted 29 November 2006 Posted 29 November 2006 Ahhhhh unstickied. It was good while it lasted.
