l444ry Posted 29 November 2006 Posted 29 November 2006 Maybe. But look at the players he had to work with then. And look at the players he'd have to work with here. Can anyone honestly say they can see Kevin Keegan working well with our comedy geniuses?I mean, what the hell would he make of Elvis Hammond for a start? Fair point but Keegan's main strength, if nothing else, is as a motivator.
Simi Posted 29 November 2006 Posted 29 November 2006 I think if Kelly needs to go then really Stowell does too. Rob Kelly was left behind after Levien and really nothing has changed. New ideas need to heard! I would love to see Alan Curbishley as the manager but I just dont see it happeneing. Hopefully we will stick clear of the "Recycled Managers" in football ie Howard Wilkinson, Dave Basset etc
Thracian Posted 29 November 2006 Posted 29 November 2006 Kevin Keegan......Great Player.....Crap Manager. He even admitted himself that he was tactically naive...nice bloke though People say a lot of things at emotional times. Until recently a few fans here were perfectly happy with a nieve tactician but I saw Keegan's teams in action and that was nievity - I'll have a bucketload. For much of the time Keegan's tactics were as simple as I've ever seen. His team had the ball and the opposition ran after it.
Swedging Posted 29 November 2006 Posted 29 November 2006 I don't see an awful lot of constructive comment in your post either Have I suggested I knew the answers? If you want be constructive, maybe you could share...
BartonFox Posted 29 November 2006 Posted 29 November 2006 While I don't think Keegan is a realistic option he is getting a fair amount of unfair critcism on here. When he bowled in at Newcastle 15 seasons ago they were very much in the same situation we are, and if you cast your mind back they stayed up on the last day of the season with an away win at a team who could have gone up automatically After that is was glory all the way, almost
Nationwider Posted 29 November 2006 Posted 29 November 2006 For much of the tim Keegan's tactics were as simple as I've ever seen. His team had the ball and the opposition ran after it. His team also had Peter Beardsley, to be fair. Newcastle c. mid-90's were still possibly the best footballing side I've seen in the Prem, with the exception of the team from Wenger's unbeaten season maybe.

What about that night they beat Barcelona 3-2 at St. James's Park? Asprilla inspired they were 3-0 up at the break, f'ckin awesome they were. Even Keith Gillespie was on fire that night.

Be a bit of a culture shock down here, that sort of football. It'd be like having a season ticket at Alton Towers.

The People's Hero Posted 30 November 2006 Posted 30 November 2006 As Fez isn't about..... This thread has descended in to farce.
Daggers Posted 30 November 2006 Posted 30 November 2006 Have I suggested I knew the answers? If you want be constructive, maybe you could share... JME was referring to the points that had been discussed over the past five days, I thought that much was obvious. Maybe you've missed them? Try looking here as it may help you to formulate some answers of your own.
