Wycombe Fox Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 It was worth the entry fee just to see Wortho warm up
Crinklyfox Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 I was lucky enough to see Frank Worthington play. The goal I best remember was a beauty he scored at Filbert Street against Stoke. Nothing seemed to be on, then Frank did a quick shimmy to the left just outside the penalty area which gave him half a yard on the defender in front of him then released a thunderbolt just inside the post. Pure class.
fazzyfox Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 He is on Celebrity Egg Heads later today (6 pm BBC2) along with other former footballers against the usual dour pretentious regulars. Let's hope there's a round on "Birds" in the Science and Nature catagory.
TJB-fox Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 The footballers come dine with me was brilliant, and Frank was boasting about how he nicked his wife Carol off the manager of Spandau Ballet haha
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 great player and enormously entertaining in a wonderful side. What genius decided to boot out a proper footy manager like Bloomfield and replace him with a goober like Mclintock who dismantled one of the best City sides in living memory. Frank Mclintock was a brilliant international right half for us, but a dreadful manager, who had no previous experience in management. A bad Board Room decision.
Winnershfox Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 Wortho was probably one of the best footballers of his era. Saw him on a number of occasions and to me he was every bit as good as George Best. A showman on on off the field he had a long career and whilst he had this flash harry image unlike Best and the likes he looked after himself. Loved watching him make something happen from nothing and without doubt in the top 5 of all time Leicester greatest players.
fuchsntf Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 Supporters of my generation, loved him, his movemeht around the park, his control for a center- forward 2nd to none. I remember once watching him at Anfield, in warm up he flicked the ball againt the corner post and then flicked the ball over his head then volleyed it into the net.During the game in a simular position, he had hughes and the Liverpool Fullback covering him, he flicked the ball up turned his back on the ball and flicked it over the 2 dumb Struck players, even the kop rose to him that day. If city or England had a player to match G.best, then that was keith weller, to me KW, was Equal.Worthington the finisher at the end of Wellers, Glovers, whitworth, Rofes crosses. A team that had tremendous skills, but couldnt finish teams off by scoring the 2nd or 3rd goals. Tho that golden night againt Liverpool, with Wellers hattrick. Worthington for a tall man had skills beyond that previous english forwards had shown, his dribbling before and inside the penalty box, was a dream. Both these players should have collected at least 50 caps between them. There was also a top forward at city who should not be forgotten and if not For injury would compete , and that was mike the mighty string....stringfellow.

Frank Worthington = One of the best players to ever play for LCFC. Agreed. George Best = One of the worlds best ever players. I would be interested to know who the other 4 Leicester players are who were as good as George Best?
Winnershfox Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 Comparing Wortho and Best as forwards with similar styles. Steve Walsh would be in my top five but in no way can be compared to George Best totally different players.
shiltz Posted 3 January 2014 Posted 3 January 2014 Loved watching him in that city side as a young teenager. I'm a musician and remember doing a jazz gig at pizza express on king street in Leicester one night when who should walk up the the stairs and take a table - Frank Worthington. We stopped playing as most people realised even 20 odd years later that the 'legend' had appeared! I couldn't help but say "bloody he'll it's Franky Wortho" - we disintegrated into musical mess and he smiled and gave us a cheeky thumbs up. I've played in front of many ex city players but none have raised gasps and eyebrows quite like Frank.
