Flynny Posted 20 December 2006 Posted 20 December 2006 The whole debacle is a Steve Wigley-Southampton style farce. So far, true. Reed could yet get things right after a few weeks settling in, and I doubt he'll be sacked after 14 matches.
lookwhaticando Posted 20 December 2006 Author Posted 20 December 2006 Reed is one of the biggest penis's in football, I can't stand the man. I get facial anguish when I see him on television. He really rates himself aswell. I had detected a hint of self-love going on during some of his early interviews. When he first took the job he was trumpeting all his credentials as a manager. Badges don't haul you out the mire, character and the ability to get a useless bunch of mercenaries to play out of their skins is closer to what's required. The crap he spews out is another thing wrong with him and the way English coaches are taught now - he sounded like some bloody middle manager from a staple manufacturer. With lines like "We identified the issues at half time and attempted to resolve them..." Next he'll hold a press conference declaring the desire to 'facilitate conference between all his players to canvass their opinions on the performance issues of the squad'. Blue-sky that one, Les, you plank. LWICD, must be loving this!! CHarlton should sack there board for making Les the manager ans sealing there fate to division 1!!! Didn't he sign a three year deal, too? What board of numpties would sign a no-name middle manager who's only worked for a beauracracy before, not a football club... and for three bloody years!
Anish Posted 20 December 2006 Posted 20 December 2006 I can't stand the tool either, for the above mentioned reasons by LWICD and Ric. Shows that Rob Kelly isn't as bad as some managers out there
Flynny Posted 20 December 2006 Posted 20 December 2006 I can't stand the tool either, for the above mentioned reasons by LWICD and Ric. Shows that Rob Kelly isn't as bad as some managers out there They both have entirely different types of inexperience, would be my view, with what Reed lacks being more important than what Kelly lacks - real world experience over knowledge.

Shows that Rob Kelly isn't as bad as some managers out there  Varney asks fans to back Reed. That's one hell of a half-arsed call for backing. They didn't even make out they really back him all that much. "There will be funds available in January". They didn't slip in an exciting word like "significant" or "substantial". Mind you... they did give him a three year contract AFTER they got hammered at White Hart Lane. Can't get much more of a backing than that, really.
lookwhaticando Posted 20 December 2006 Author Posted 20 December 2006 i agree, he really needs a slap. I'm loving his shit results. Tottenham and Wycombe are the icing on the cake. All we need now is a 9-0 'cherry' from Man United or someone. Wigan... I'd like that. Or Bolton. Or all three!
Wils Posted 20 December 2006 Posted 20 December 2006 Reed out. I hope they come down, possibly the most boring side in the Prem apart from Fulham.
lookwhaticando Posted 20 December 2006 Author Posted 20 December 2006 Reed out. I hope they come down, possibly the most boring side in the Prem apart from Fulham. No and No. Fulham aren't as bad as they used to be. Besides, I don't mind Chris Coleman - he should be our new boss. Controversial! Definitely not Reed out. As I said earlier, I want him to fail in spectacular fashion. Besides, the board was dumb enough to give him a 3-year contract on the back of a 5-1 thrashing, now they can honour it. That'll teach them a lesson or two.
lildave3 Posted 20 December 2006 Posted 20 December 2006 It was a stupid decision to sack Dowie in the first place. The Charlton board have gone mad.
vanfox12 Posted 20 December 2006 Posted 20 December 2006 It was a stupid decision to sack Dowie in the first place. The Charlton board have gone mad. I don't have much sympathy for their fans either critiscising Curbishley who had got them promoted twice and managed to establish them as a mid table side. The truth is Charlton are a middle of the road London club better than the likes of Brentford, Barnet, Orient and Millwall but nowhere big enough to Challenge the likes of West Ham and Totteham as rivals to Chelsea and Arsenal.
Lord Nibblington Posted 20 December 2006 Posted 20 December 2006 All I can say is Hah! Charlton deserve this after shafting Dowie.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 20 December 2006 Posted 20 December 2006 That scoreline is brilliant. Wycombe in the semi finals!? One of the worst days of my life.
lookwhaticando Posted 21 December 2006 Author Posted 21 December 2006 Senior management at the club are shifting blame all over the place. It's not Reed's fault (they sound keen to keep him) - they say "Iain and Les' record are about the same, but are both at fault?" (There record in fairness is the same so far - shit). Anyway, they go on to blame the fact they spend 11 million quid they didn't have to spend. They blame Dowie for pissing away all this cash. They are particularly miffed at the 3.7m quid spent on "the best centre-half you never heard of". So - a manager the board appointed spent money on transfers provided and sanctioned for by the board... which absolves Reed of any blame and dumps it all on Dowie. Did they forget the little bit about them appointing him and then backing him with all this cash? He has no record of signing players for the Premiership - yet you backed him to the tune of 11 million quid. Sounds an awful lot like our board circa 2000. Open your eyes, idiots, you've really cocked it up this time. BBC Sport: Addicks chairman backs Reed.
potter3 Posted 21 December 2006 Posted 21 December 2006 ...BBC Sport: Addicks chairman backs Reed. I misread that as Addicks chairman sacks Reed I also almost mistypred Addicks as Addicts
BartonFox Posted 22 December 2006 Posted 22 December 2006 Les Reed is a clown of the highest order. I have met the plank and we have had a frank exchange of views on football and coaching, this was 2 years ago. When I asked him why no English coach had achieved anything significant since Howard Wilkinson back in 1990 he had no answer. He didn't like it one bit when I suggested that perhaps the FA principals were in fact flawed and tepid. The best thing about all this is how he is failing so spectacularly and how the Charlton board are doing the worst PR exercise ever justifying his mere existance. He has wanted this chance for so long, he thinks he is the dogs bollocks (many have noted his self proclaimation in his interviews) and he is going down quicker than Andy Johnson or Didier Drogba ever have. If a Charlton fan stormed the pitch and landed one on him I would glady make a donation to his bail money and lobby against any ban or imprisonment.
Ultra Posted 23 December 2006 Posted 23 December 2006 Another defeat today, at Middlesbrough. Looks like the Charlton board will have to make a decision soon - stick with Reed and go down, or find someone who might turn it round for them.

The thing is Charlton will not be able to attract anybody who could turn it around.

Jesus might be able to do a job... but he's too busy converting people to Christianity to convert crap relegation candidates into survivors.
Thracian Posted 23 December 2006 Posted 23 December 2006 Back in the 70's Charles Hughes wrote a coaching bible and Les Reed strikes me as wearing the same seriously-shaded glasses. The problem with following such bibles is that by the time some folk realise they're flawed - they're already a punctured ball in a recky pavilion. If you want a football philosophy my advice would be to study Shankly.
JoeyB Posted 23 December 2006 Posted 23 December 2006 i can remeber when forest were doing shite and gary megson was being abused by some fans so he told the fans to follow him down the tunnel at half time and told them to go crazy at the players. after that forest won 5 out of there next 7 or something like that iirc so maybe leicester or charlton should try something similar to encourage the players even more
Stuliasz Posted 24 December 2006 Posted 24 December 2006 Well that's Pardew out of the question for us then.
MC Prussian Posted 24 December 2006 Posted 24 December 2006 So much for Pardew. Would've liked to see him here but apparently, Charlton's the place to be.
JoeyB Posted 24 December 2006 Posted 24 December 2006 http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hlid=4...Addicks+manager here it is again good luck pardew hard job infront of him
