Lineker's Left Foot Posted 12 January 2007 Posted 12 January 2007 I know there have been loads of mistakes about managers at City, but IMO one of the BIGGEST mistakes was Pleat never giving Jimmy Quinn much of a chance in 1988/89. That's why I could never stand Pleat

eaststandtom Posted 12 January 2007 Posted 12 January 2007 I know there have been loads of mistakes about managers at City, but IMO one of the BIGGEST mistakes was Pleat never giving Jimmy Quinn much of a chance in 1988/89. That's why I could never stand Pleat never has a truer word been spoken. jimmy quinn scores goals for fun everywhere else in his career signs for city and pleat decides to play him in midfield. logical that?!!!! not still banging them in at non league isnt he and he is in his mid 40s
Geo V Posted 12 January 2007 Posted 12 January 2007 Around the same period (I`m sure Pleat was still manager), we took Paul Moran on loan from Spurs and a youngster called Kevin Campbell on loan from Arsenal. Together, they helped see us up the table. Rumour has it that Campbell was available for the right price but we didnt table a bid for him. It wasnt too long after that he was drafted into the Arsenal first team and became a good first teamer and enjoying a decent career.
Phube Posted 12 January 2007 Posted 12 January 2007 Craig Levein putting Kisnorbo in the Centre of Midfield!!! Why!!!????
London_Fox Posted 12 January 2007 Posted 12 January 2007 Peter Taylor...take your pick but mine would be spending 5 million on Ade then refusing to drop him when he was clearly not good enough.
Dr The Singh Posted 12 January 2007 Posted 12 January 2007 Peter Taylor...take your pick but mine would be spending 5 million on Ade then refusing to drop him when he was clearly not good enough. That and the handling of stan collymore!!
Daggers Posted 12 January 2007 Posted 12 January 2007 The selling of Links & Alan Smith...maybe not the biggest mistakes, maybe not mistakes at all - but certainly actions that upset me hugely.
FrankieWorthoYaggedMyWife Posted 12 January 2007 Posted 12 January 2007 Peter Taylor...take your pick but mine would be spending 5 million on Ade then refusing to drop him when he was clearly not good enough Whilst not defending Taylor, who would you have dropped Akinbiyi for? Collymore had gone mad Mancini stayed for about four games Benjamin was.............well Benjamin and Sturridge was hardly amazing either Just wondered thats all?
Ric Flair Posted 12 January 2007 Posted 12 January 2007 Whilst not defending Taylor, who would you have dropped Akinbiyi for? Collymore had gone mad Mancini stayed for about four games Benjamin was.............well Benjamin and Sturridge was hardly amazing either Just wondered thats all? But Franky, it was Taylor's fault for all of the above either going mad and leaving or being shit. Ok, so he didn't make them shit but he paid lots of money for them to do a job for us and they didn't do a job. It takes a brave manager to hold their hands up and admit they've made a mistake or plenty of mistakes in Taylor's case. Twatlor decided to just plunder on with the cretins he'd bought and we paid the price!
THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 12 January 2007 Posted 12 January 2007 Spending 3 million on the injury prone Matt Jones was equally shocking, and Junior Lewis!!!, I still can't believe we beat Liverpool and Chelsea (I recall!!) at home with him as the anchorman....unbelievable!!
FrankieWorthoYaggedMyWife Posted 12 January 2007 Posted 12 January 2007 I realise that but having blown all the cash I just wondered who you would have picked out of the dross? This could be a top new thread! "Out of all the Shite players Taylor signed or were left from the O'Neill era, who would you have selected in the starting XI?"
JoeyB Posted 12 January 2007 Posted 12 January 2007 Peter Taylor...take your pick but mine would be spending 5 million on Ade then refusing to drop him when he was clearly not good enough. worst buy ever imho

DB11 Posted 12 January 2007 Posted 12 January 2007 If RK sells Hendo that would be the most upsetting for me. As to date though, some manager putting relegation release clauses in the player's contracts

THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 12 January 2007 Posted 12 January 2007 Didnt Basset sign him at least sturridge could hit the net, Ade not only missed, but he regularly topped the stands from 12 yards....so so bad Does anyone remember his debut vs Villa, his first touch in a Leicester shirt was woeful and it wasn't a fluke

As to date though, some manager putting relegation release clauses in the player's contracts Hendersons not amazing though is he, and we can hardly stop him going if Vil[la or some other similar Premier club comes in for him, Logans just as good, if not better.
DB11 Posted 12 January 2007 Posted 12 January 2007 Hendersons not amazing though is he, and we can hardly stop him going if Vil[la or some other similar Premier club comes in for him, Logans just as good, if not better. Maybe he is not amazing on average, but when he has 'his day' then he definitely is He is out best keeper and , as it currently stands, he is better than Logan. Maybe Logan has a higher potential and will be decent in a good few years but not just yet. And we can stop him going to Villa, the MM deal is as good as finalised. Ok, if Hendo wants to go to Villa then I'll wish him luck but we don't need to sell him, financially or because he "isn't very good."

Your right Hendo is not amazing but it's odds on his replacement won't be either! Unless our scouts have found some hidden gem of a keeper there really is no point in getting rid of Hendo. The money we get for him will be spent on a replacement anyway!

Of course he'll want to go to Villa if they made the offer, Prem club, bigger wage, and while their other keepers are injured he would actually first choice for a few weeks.
Geo V Posted 12 January 2007 Posted 12 January 2007 Campbell was only available as part of a Gary McAllister going to Arsenal package ...................the rest they say is history! Really? I cant remember that. Still, Gary Mac went to dirty Leeds not long after that so maybe we should have done the deal!!!

I didn't say I wanted to sell him, dannyboy was making out that selling him would be a bigger mitake than signing, Akinbiyi, Matt Jones etc.
