Simi Posted 14 January 2007 Posted 14 January 2007 Perhaps he was paying attention to the home fans too. Maybe my view is a little bias.
luffbra Posted 15 January 2007 Posted 15 January 2007 I disagree. I found several ways of describing him.... However, I think this description from the Telegraph is brilliant (and I never thought I'd use the word's Telegraph and brilliant in the same sentence!) "referee Danny McDermid, a man fast developing a reputation for turning small fires into large conflagrations by applying liberal quantities of petrol."

Brilliant. Much better than mine.
davieG Posted 16 January 2007 Posted 16 January 2007 From the Sun Online: BLUNDER ref Danny McDermid is to be relegated from the Championship after his red-card howler at Colchester. McDermid sent off U’s skipper Karl Duguid for his first booking in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Leicester. And the London official, taking charge of his first Championship game, only reversed his decision when corrected by the fourth official. Now the army captain, who also booked six others, awarded Colchester a dubious penalty and disallowed three goals, will be dumped back in Leagues One and Two. Jim Ashworth, manager of the League’s referees list, said: “His appointment at Colchester was my call  and it would be foolish to say it went well. “He will watch a DVD of the game with us. It will clearly be a minute-by-minute review. Clubs are our clients and we have to get appointments right.â€Â

Louise Posted 16 January 2007 Posted 16 January 2007 I'm amazed anything has been done or said publicly, usually it's a bit of a closed-door affair. Still, nice to hear that they're admitting he's crap.
James. Posted 16 January 2007 Posted 16 January 2007 but why should league one or league two suffer? he should be suspended and put on a humiliating rehabilitation/training course. and while he's at it he can clean my shoes and feed me legumes for a month.
step Posted 16 January 2007 Posted 16 January 2007 Check this lot out HAMPSHIRE referee Danny McDermid was at the centre of the controversy which surrounded the end of Salisbury City's FA Trophy dream. Steve Thompson calls Danny McDermid the worst referee he has ever seen after Notts County's defeat by MK Dons BOSS Kevin Bond refused to point the finger of blame at referee Danny McDermid after Cherries had exited the FA Cup in controversial fashion. Torquay were not happy with referee Danny McDermid’s decision to award Town a penalty and they were enraged five minutes from time LATICS boss John Sheridan vented his frustration at referee Danny McDermid after watching Athletic lose 1-0 at Yeovil Town Oldham boss John Sheridan was furious with referee Danny McDermid for not booking Chris Cohen after the Glovers man's challenge felled McDonald Referee Danny McDermid's controversial penalty decision, for an alleged push on Swindon striker Lee Peacock by Adam Murray in the 62nd minute trouble markers Anthony Gerrard and Ian Roper throughout an opening half that was only livened by the erratic antics of London referee Danny McDermid But referee Danny McDermid waved away furious Bournemouth protests when the goal was ruled out. League newcomer Danny McDermid dismissed both Matt Somner and Alan White, leaving Thompson to blast the referee for his performance Steve Thompson calls Danny McDermid the worst referee he has ever seen after ... Notts County manager The Magpies chief described Danny McDermid's showing in Saturday's 3-2 defeat to MK Dons as "the worst I've seen in 30 years of professional football Torquay have been reported to the Football Association by referee Danny McDermid following an incident after Saturday's 1-0 home defeat by Swindon He was furious that referee Danny McDermid refused to award a penalty after Ady Williams tangled with Jordan Robertson inside the area five minutes from BOSS Kevin Bond refused to point the finger of blame at referee Danny McDermid after Cherries had exited the FA Cup in controversial fashion. John Martin stepped up and converted the spot kick but for some inexplicable reason Referee Mr. McDermid insisted it be retaken The referee, Danny McDermid, might have known he was in for a funny old afternoon when he awarded County a penalty early on only to be alerted to the fact that the linesman had already flagged for offside. Leicester boss Rob Kelly blamed rookie referee Danny McDermid for costing his side two points in a controversial 1-1 draw with Colchester. Am I missing something or is the FA just plain effing stupid
Joe. Posted 16 January 2007 Posted 16 January 2007 Am I missing something or is the FA just plain effing stupid No the FA really is stupid. REALLY stupid. <_<
Lisburn Fox Posted 16 January 2007 Posted 16 January 2007 OK time to put a peneth in, and no doubt get an ear bashing, but thats what friends do. As you can see I am Ulster fox and despite reading the forum on a daily basis from my Sierra Leone abode I rarely comment as time with net access is limited. I get my Blue Army fix from this site. It is clear to me that Danny McDermid had a bad time on Saturday and was thrust into a higher level than he was ready for. It is also clear that he has peeved off alot of managers so it would be foolish of me to defend him as a ref at this level. I have known Danny for about 20 years and he is an honest down to earth good lad who loves his football and his refereeing (Is that a word) anyway I just wanted to let you know. The FA are as much to blame and its good your man has come out and said so, knowing Danny he will continue to work on his game and hopefully improve. This is not a post to defend his handling of the game but a post to let you know that Danny McDermid is a Genuin good lad. PS Try not to slag me off to much as I am on Larium and its not nice. Cheers
Thracian Posted 16 January 2007 Posted 16 January 2007 I don't think Thrac was complaining about Kelly rarely having a go, more saying that when Kelly says you weren't a good ref something has really gone wrong. (Or at least that's how I read it ) Spot on. I thoroughly commend Kelly's attitude towards referees - both his own and the demands he makes of his players in that respect. But it won't stop arseholes like McDermid from shitting all over him. And reading all the other controversies surrounding the man I think that, while the prompt demotion is commendable, there should be a thorough investigation into the guys record. But it still begs the question how the hell did he get promotion up to Championship level?
harpendenfox Posted 17 January 2007 Posted 17 January 2007 But it still begs the question how the hell did he get promotion up to Championship level? Perhaps because there simply might not be enough refs to go round these days, and thus some are getting promoted too quickly? Clearly this man had a howler, but judging by the abuse that can be hurled out by parents watching the under 11s games I run the line for in Hertfordshire, you do have to be a particularly thick skinned breed of human being to do this job. That said, if you never give people a chance at a higher level, you can never tell if they're good enough.

Cheers Its not about this ref as a man mate. Its all about someone having the ability to carry out a job and McDermid doesnt seem capable. Like all similar cases, he`s not to blame but his employers are. It goes to show that there is such a problem in producing quality refereeing in this country that they will simply "make do" with these ***** that keep making repeat mistakes. The problem is, clubs can get relegated on the back of these decisions, players can lose jobs, club staff can be sacked and so on........

Cheers As his friend you talk of a good honest bloke...and you may have good reason for that. You imply that Danny might do with some forgiveness and understanding because the FA should shoulder some blame and that's unquestionably true. But seven bookings in a clean game, a harsh penalty, constant lectures for folk... That doesn't sound as if he's too forgiving of other peoples mistakes. Sounds more like a who loves his whistle and his authority more than his football and who clearly fails to understand that the game is not always black and white but invariably shades of grey. If you're his friend perhaps the best advice you might offer him is that the best referees are the ones you hardly notice and you do that by having a little understanding and leaving yourself a little leeway. Great referees settle many potential problems, not by stopping the game and embarrassing people, but by quietly making their point at an opportune moment.
Simi Posted 30 September 2007 Posted 30 September 2007 I thought I could remember the name! Colchester away! He was at the centre of controversy yesterday, with Leeds and Mr Wise. MOD's if you want to move or anything do so, I just didn't see the need to start a new thread.

Simi Posted 30 September 2007 Posted 30 September 2007 I was at that game on Saturday. He was appalling! He was the Gills 12th man. Did you see any of the coin throwing? The video on YouTube doesn't look to pleasant after the match!
Kent Fox Posted 1 October 2007 Posted 1 October 2007 Did you see any of the coin throwing? The video on YouTube doesn't look to pleasant after the match! Yeah. I was actually in the Leeds end  A long story but the ticket was free. In fairness, if that is the right word, I can kinda understand the Leeds fans frustrations because McDermid was the Gills 12th man. Even the Gills fans I went drinking with afte the game said that - they found it very amusing as they were saved from a drubbing. The yellows were rubbish hence so were the reds. Pointless cards one and all. On saying that, I can't condone their actions / reactions at the end. They were a disgrace. They were destroying the Brian Moore stand, which got a bit scary; they were throwing a lot of stuff at the pitch and their own fans were being hit. One girl, about 13 or 14 got hit in the face with a seat. They wre even fighting amongst themselves. And then it kicked off outside the ground and I discovered that I can run further than 100m without having a heart attack EDIT: I have just looked at the YouTube vid and really that looks tame to what happened. It doesn't show the fans to the right of the video.
