Lemon Harpic Posted 26 January 2007 Posted 26 January 2007 I thought you were anti-greed? I am. £630 million profit, and they still try to force sick employees to work. Disgusting.

The People's Hero Posted 26 January 2007 Posted 26 January 2007 I haven't had a day off sick since I started this job (more than 18 months) and I know the value of hard work (rather than openly mocking it and belitting those who want to get on in life). Who's the mug... you or I?

The People's Hero Posted 26 January 2007 Posted 26 January 2007 Hes probably up to his neck in grants, sick notes and on the rock n roll.... And copies of Viz/Private Eye he's found on trains which he steals his opinions from despite not really understanding the subject matter? Good point.
Lemon Harpic Posted 26 January 2007 Posted 26 January 2007 Or maybe that's what you say to yourself to justify your own failings. I was born to a working class family from leicester. My mum and dad worked hard all their life to give me an opportunity which I have grabbed with both hands and am now carving out a successful career. No power and priviledge at any point. Get your head out of your Marxism books and join the real world, comrade. So you're now a member of the super-rich elite? The idea that capitalism is some sort of meritocracy has to be one of the most dangerous lies that we tell ourselves. You've managed to make it, through sponging off your hardworking parents, from working-class to (I'm guessing) something a little more middle-class and comfortable. Whoop-de-fυcking-doop. It doesn't change the fact that about 95% of the wealth is owned by less than 5% of the population, that those with serious power and money have closed the gate behind them, leaving the rest of us to believe that they are poor not because the capitalist class has stolen the wealth they have worked hard to create but because they are not working hard enough. Maybe Willie Walsh should forgo some of his £887,000 salary and go on strike in protest at how lazy and ungrateful his employees are?

Life is full of do-ers and don't-ers.... accept it, those that do get the rewards, those that don't fooking whinge moan and bleat about how hard done by they are!
Lemon Harpic Posted 26 January 2007 Posted 26 January 2007 Your blinkered imagery has no place in todays society. I love the irony that this was followed by... wake up and look at the BMW and Plasmas next door in the council house... BMWs? How you have the gall to accuse anyone else of talking utter shite is beyond me.
Janx Posted 26 January 2007 Posted 26 January 2007 I love the irony that this was followed by... BMWs? How you have the gall to accuse anyone else of talking utter shite is beyond me. how about joining in with real life?

Do-ers like James Murdoch deserve their obscene salaries (did I say obscene? I meant reasonable) because of their hard work ethic, their contribution to society etc and so on. Nurses have to work long hours for low pay doing scummy work because they are lazy and worthless. Right?

Janx Posted 26 January 2007 Posted 26 January 2007 Real life where every garage in Braunstone and Saffron Lane has a BMW parked in it? you are an idealist who'se ideals cannot work... see Communism, Marxism, etc etc

I meant reasonable) because of their hard work ethic, their contribution to society etc and so on. Nurses have to work long hours for low pay doing scummy work because they are lazy and worthless. Right? Erm... nobody said that all nurses were lazy and worthless. What was said that people who ARE lazy and worthless are usually the first to moan that they are not rich. They do not understand the value of hardwork. Nurses are obviously for the most part hardworking and valued workers. Besides, if nurses do not like their lot (and I bet a lot take an immense amount of satisfaction from being in a position where they help others everyday) there is nothing to stop them resigning and seeking to start up their own business, studying to gain more qualifications and move to a different industry... in fact, I don't actually understand your point. Were these people forced to be nurses? No. Would these people WANT you to use them as an example...? Probably not. Why don't you just represent yourself and let the nurses speak for themselves? Also, if you don't believe that unemployed, system-players have nice cars, sky tv and spend most evenings in the pub then I'd invite you to visit my village. I think you'd be surprised.

There is a bitterness that runs through all of your posts that clouds and distorts your arguments, your rhetoric is old fashioned, jaded and approaching downright dull. You attempt to come across as some kind of left-wing revolutionary but really all you look like is misguided and angry with only an internet forum to vent your frustration. No one denies that wealth is concentrated in relatively few hands but in the context of your argument that is irrelevant. These BA workers are taking the piss, there is clearly a culture that says 'fk it i'm gonna have a day off sick today' which is wrong and the company have every right to clamp down on it. Finally, quite how you interpret my comments as 'sponging off my hard-working parents' is beyond me. They worked hard and loved their children so they didn't grow up to be people like you. I now return their generosity and support in any number of ways, although I doubt you would know or care much about that.

Lemon Harpic Posted 26 January 2007 Posted 26 January 2007 there is nothing to stop them resigning and seeking to start up their own business A poorly-paid worker can quit her job and start up her own business. ALL poorly paid workers cannot simultaneously quit their jobs and start up their own businesses. We cannot all be employers, some need to be employees. Similarly, for the rich to be rich they need for some people to be poor. The rich maintain the system. The system maintains poverty. Even if every single person on the planet got up tomorrow (which is a Saturday, but never mind) and worked their hardest to improve their lot, there would still be unemployed people, there would still be millions of people who live below the poverty line. It isn't the case that poor people are poor because they're lazy. Poor people will necessarily exist as long as a tiny elite hoarde virtually all the planet's wealth for themselves.
Lord Nibblington Posted 26 January 2007 Posted 26 January 2007 Money... The root of all joy and evil. Only if you're obssesed with it.

Oh wot tosh and twaddle... we are not saying that the "GLOBAL VIEW" is not perfect, but dont expect us to allow you to use that model when discussing a bunch of workshy wankers who are probably fairly paid especially if their attitude is to take the piss by going sick every 5 minutes... remember it was 12 days on AVERAGE!!! that means that the majority of people who DONT take sick.... some will be off for WEEKS OR MONTHS!! scrounging bastads!

There's a lot of fear of job loss these days, in all working sectors. I'd say there's a huge bunch of employees that don't take sick because they need to keep the job. Otherwise, they'd end up on the street quite easily. It is common use in companies to replace older employees (who cost too much) with willing young flesh for a minimum wage.

How many times have you not been able to go to work this year...do you actually have a job?? Most people will average between 2-5 days per year I reckon, in fact I ACTUALLY believe that even then, they COULD go to work, its an attitude to "getting whats due me" I despise it.

LH I agree with your point regarding the rich poor divide increasing, and a few who hold all the wealth but to say the poor will remain poor etc is going abit too far and a prime example is the immigrant community and foreign labour, and if you look at the polish community and narborough road inparticular, they are thriving, opening bars, shops etc!! Relating it to this topic, I believe the workers at BA are wrong or should I say the unions!!
