Head Honcho Posted 31 January 2007 Posted 31 January 2007 No, it's everyone's 'us' and 'them' attitude which lies at the root of the problem. We're all too suspicious of each other. You're right there but can you blame us? When I was in London for the Fulham game I lost count of the number of trains I got on and looked at anyone of N African or Middle Eastern appearance with suspicion. Totally irrational I know and something I wouldn't have done in the past but when they sat down and got their book out you realised that they are as much victims in all this as anyone and then I started to feel like I owed them some kind of apology.
Daggers Posted 31 January 2007 Posted 31 January 2007 If you went to live in another country with different, rules, different laws, e.t.c, would you live and abide by them? Yes, because you'd be forced too, but many Foreign people (In general) who come to live in England what to live and carry on how they always have, and they do, and in a few years "we" will be living by "there" rules, and that is why "we" are being forced and feel like saying bye bye to England! As someone that has lived in South America - no one "forced" me to integrate. As much as I learned the language, ate the food and went to do the local things...I was still treated like an outsider. All the Brits gravitated into a community with the Americans and the Canadians. We did everything over there that you seem to find objectionable over here. Whenever I could I would get people to bring me cheese, marmite and curry pastes - carrying on with the way of living I was raised with My son was born in Colombia and is very conscious of his having more than one nationality - it doesn't mean he has to choose one over the other. The whole concept of nationhood is shite anyway. My son was raised on marmite not arepitas, he had Weetabix and not bunelos. Is that wrong? Why was I there - to earn money, much better money than I could have earned here. I've just ticked all your boxes of things the "foreigners" here are doing that pisses you off. Seriously, I suggest you go travel the world or go work in another country - it'll open your mind to other possibilities and other ways of looking at a situation.
Daggers Posted 31 January 2007 Posted 31 January 2007 One lad I know moved to Spain sometime last year and he has quite correctly coverted to there beliefs, laws and way of living What does that mean? He became Catholic?
The People's Hero Posted 31 January 2007 Posted 31 January 2007 What does that mean? He became Catholic? And took regular siestas.

The sooner I have been qualifed for 3 years (Maybe a few more ) or more the better! Working Holiday here I come! (Well thats plan anyway, Things could change I spose!)

Well in that case, I hope your narrowminded 'them' and 'us' viewpoint continues to operate wherever you travel to and you might just learn a lesson and grow up a bit.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that immigrants should adopt the British way of life, god forbid! Most people are more upset that they come here and expect us to adopt their religion or enforce Sharia law in some parts of the UK. I take it you didn't go to colombia and try to bomb the place or covert them to C of E?
Matt Posted 31 January 2007 Posted 31 January 2007 Well in that case, I hope your narrowminded 'them' and 'us' viewpoint continues to operate wherever you travel to and you might just learn a lesson and grow up a bit. 1) Going to family. 2) I'll abide by any law's, and will not expect people to change opinions, e.t.c 3) I will not consistanly jump on the "I'm a victim of racisism" bandwagon...Which is the main point I am trying to make, TBH I have no problem with people coming to the country, I hope to go to another country in the future so i'm doing exactly the same as people coming in this country, that is not my problem, My problem and if you read my first post you will see this (Everything since has been blown out of proportion in arguement and such) is the consistent PC and the consistant "Your being rascist" like Big Brother (Can't beleive I am bring BB in as a example) what Jade, Danielle, and Jo did was not rascist, not racist one bit, Bullying yes, I agree 100% but rascist, NO! And that is what pisses me of and the point I am trying to/making! You can't look at anyone without being called rascist!

Most people are more upset that they come here and expect us to adopt their religion or enforce Sharia law in some parts of the UK. I'd be amazed if anyone could tell me what "The British Way of Life" is? Considering we are all so different on this forum and everything I don't get the whole "they" thing TBH mate - No one has tried to force me to adopt their religion or their laws once. I know a damn lot of Muslims, unsurprisingly considering the part of town we live in, and the media POV of the Islam faith is totally different to the one that I get...they are simply this months dangerous dogs...which in turn were the new bird flu. This lot were nicked for planning to kidnap a Muslim soldier. Not exactly the end of the world stuff is it? People, white Christian people, do and get away with far worse than this everyday of the week. I'm not defending it - I just reckon the balance is all out of wack and there is a level of dumb hysteria surrounding the entire thing...like a Mandaric takeover rumour I take it you didn't go to colombia and try to bomb the place or covert them to C of E? Nope - but I got shot at. My son had a gun put to his head and a nutter of a cabbie chased me with a machete. I converted them to the understanding that pasty English blokes can drink lots of rum and can not dance salsa...not for all the coke in Bolivia.
Thracian Posted 31 January 2007 Author Posted 31 January 2007 Yea - bloody ferries. ...And they have bigger cocks. Not if they come from India apparently.

Maybe not but lobbying for Sharia law to be enforced isn't going to endear them to anyone outside of Islam!
Thracian Posted 31 January 2007 Author Posted 31 January 2007 Maybe not but lobbying for Sharia law to be enforced isn't going to endear them to anyone outside of Islam! I was accused of being alarmist when I mentioned that some months ago. Just out of curiousity I wonder how many people would fall foul of such laws if they were applied across Britain. It's not something I've studied deeply and I stand correcting if I'm wrong... but from what I gather it doesn't bode well if you drink, are homosexual, or commit adultery.
Daggers Posted 31 January 2007 Posted 31 January 2007 ... but from what I gather it doesn't bode well if you drink, are homosexual, or commit adultery. Well, sounds like Fez is pretty f'cked then
Poakey Posted 1 February 2007 Posted 1 February 2007 Watch out you'll be accused of rascism soon! Modern Britain = PC Britain! "They" can say anything about "us" but vice-versa = You can't say that its racist! Watch it mate, you'll be getting deaththreats next!!
lookwhaticando Posted 1 February 2007 Posted 1 February 2007 It wouldn't surprise me if some kind of vigilante campaign was to raise it's ugly head if this carries on. It's like a time bomb waiting to explode and once it kicks off thats it there'd be no going back! I wonder how the paramilitaries in NI would react if a muslim cell was found to be active there The BNP might do nicely out of such an event. After all, under a BNP government, none of these troublemakers would have been allowed in to begin with. Great pitch it'll be when the shit hits the fan. It'll speak to plenty of people, for sure. As for the paramilitaries... they'd sort them out if the found a cell. Wouldn't want someone else on their turf, would they?
Matt Posted 1 February 2007 Posted 1 February 2007 Just to add more fuel to the fire whats the difference? (Hoodies which were banned) (Yeah there chavs I know, everyone hates chavs expect chavs but it still proves the point i'm trying to make) So whats the difference? Why are Hoodies banned, and Veils (Full Veils) not? I know after being told by muslim (Who wears a half veil)that full veils have no main reason, They are not needed and do not have to be worn, I have no problem with half veils at least you can see the persons face. But whats the difference between veils and hoodies/hats? In an airport recently I was told to remove my hat while going through security, I was behind a group of Muslims who had burkahs on, Fair enough a hat isn't to do with religion, e.t.c, but a burkah disguises people more than a hat would surly?
Daggers Posted 1 February 2007 Posted 1 February 2007 I was told to remove my hate while going through security I see you didn't discard it though...

Fez of Mahrez Posted 29 June 2007 Posted 29 June 2007 Hurray, this should lead to some reasoned debate between two sets of people who are willing to accept that it is okay to have different opinions.
