Lord Nibblington Posted 7 February 2007 Posted 7 February 2007 If he plays Frank Lampard on the left he should be sacked, end of disucssion. I think that's more like it.
lcfc_jme Posted 7 February 2007 Posted 7 February 2007 Not too sure how we're going to get on tonight. Gerrard and Lampard in midfield together doesn't really work, so I can't see it clicking beatifully all of a sudden tonight. Wright-Phillips hasn't exactly played too much in recent times, so it'll be interesting to see how he does as well.

Well by the looks of it it's Gerrard and Carrick in midfield. and Fat Frank on the left
lcfc_jme Posted 7 February 2007 Posted 7 February 2007 Well by the looks of it it's Gerrard and Carrick in midfield. and Fat Frank on the left Fat Frank on the left??! It just gets better and better! Can't see what McClaren is playing at with that selection tbh. Surely it'd have made more sense to play Dyer wide left and push either Gerrard or Lampard further forward?!?

Surely it'd have made more sense to play Dyer wide left and push either Gerrard or Lampard further forward?!? Well no, what makes sense to me is to play all three in midfield and push Wright Phillips and Dyer further forward on the wing. Well with that selection of player any way. However according so SSN it's 4-4-1-1 with Dyer just behind Crouch which means one of Carrick, Gerarrd, Lampard or SWP will have to play left wing. Rumour has it it's fat boys turn to look like a twat on the left wing.
Flynny Posted 7 February 2007 Posted 7 February 2007 If it's 5-4-1/4-3-3 then I'll be dead pleased with that selection, so long as it's Dyer on the left. If it's 4-4-1-1 with Frank on the left though... that's crazy. Also: Phil Neville?!

Hope it works better for us than it did for them last night - their attacking wasn't really up to much tbh and they seemed to be lacking an awful lot, especially in the first half. Good luck to Fat Frank if he ends up playing wide left, he'll need it. His performances in his preferred role for England haven't set the world alight, so I fear for him playing as a winger.
Simi Posted 7 February 2007 Posted 7 February 2007 Hoping for an entertaining game tonight. I know we probably wont get it but it ha potential with some of the players that are on show ! Crouch on his own up top does not really strike out as attacking

Crouch on his own up top does not really strike out as attacking Yeah. Fat Frank cutting infield before blazing over from 25-30 yards out 8 or 9 times because he's full of confidence because he can bag against Wycombe et al. Sounds very attack-minded.

Fat Frank cutting infield before blazing over from 25-30 yards out 8 or 9 times because he's full of confidence because he can bag against Wycombe et al. Sounds very attack-minded. I'm not Downing's biggest fan but if hes left footed then why does he not play him wide left
Joe. Posted 7 February 2007 Posted 7 February 2007 Really, if he plays Lampard on the left it could possibly the stupidest decision ever. Lampard's no good for England in the middle let alone on the left wing. Although I don't rate him much, we have a natural winger who is playing decent in the premiership at the moment in Stuart Downing. This would be the perfect game for him to play him. McClaren's useless anyway, we all know it and if he does play lampard on the left then it won't be a surprise to any of us. Surely comebody can't be so stupid as him?
Joe. Posted 7 February 2007 Posted 7 February 2007 I was left overall very disappointed by what I saw at the Under-21 match last night. Although the team came back from 2 goals down, they didn't play good football at all. It was hopeful stuff all night, far too much long ball for Premiership players. Although they are still learning they should be able to string a good few passes together surely? Tom Huddlestone had an absolute mare of a game, easily England's worst player. Everything was all over the place. He's supposed to be one of the brightest prospects we have. The 4-5-1 formation clearly didn't work. Nugent is left stranded when he is fed long balls all game and there's nobody there to latch onto a flick on or anything. One player who did impress me was Nigel Reo-Coker. He had a very good game in the centre of midfield, winning pretty much all of the challenges. With performances like that he is certain to be in the reckoning for the first team in future years.

Shame for Huddlestone really as he has played very well for Spurs lately. Alot of Derby fans were very sad to see him go.
Mark Posted 7 February 2007 Posted 7 February 2007 First half is a guaranteed 4-5-1 bore fest. As for the second half, it will see some decent attacking play but how soon depends on how long it takes Spain to take the lead. What a bore International games are, I'll go for 1-1. It will obviously be the opposite of that now I've said it, which is what we want.
Brainy Posted 7 February 2007 Posted 7 February 2007 Engand 2-1 Spain Dyer + Lampard Villa I'm an optimist, you see..
