stez Posted 28 February 2007 Share Posted 28 February 2007 I think banning should be in place for excessive rudeness, pornographic images, abuse etc. But for poor quality? C'mon! OK, Alex went a bit daft this afternoon, but I think just ignore the daft posts and the posters will get bored and move on. If I ever got banned for posting low quality posting, I would leave and never come back. I think people on this site are more sick of bans, topics being deleted, spamming and so forth than they are of 'low quality posts' ok, maybe poor quality was a bad choice of words. crap could be a better choice

MC Prussian Posted 28 February 2007 Share Posted 28 February 2007 I can somehow understand a moderators' reaction against low-quality posting. Thing is, no one will ever really be able to tell what that actually means and what type of posts it includes. I try not to get carried away too often, as it is often also an age issue (I think?). There's so many puberty-driven threads that don't really speak to me (no more). Then again, I don't know what it's like to manage a (privately organized?) messageboard that's been growing quite a bit like this one. I consider myself a guest on here and try to behave in such a way. If there's an occasional laugh included, even better. And all in all, I quite enjoy the company on here. Although a lot of the past members that made this board a more fun place are gone (for good).

davieG Posted 28 February 2007 Share Posted 28 February 2007 I hate to sound like this but.. people move on. So has this forum. It's time for the new generation of posters to come through, whether they're better than the ''old school'' members or not. If the 'new' school doesn't appeal to the owner of this board would you expect them to continue to finance it - I don't think so. Therefore the new order could mean the demise and disappearance of the forum. So people need to ask themselves do I fit in with and maintain a certain standard and the forum continues or do I carry on regardless ignoring some simple guidelines and contribute to the demise of the forum? Even as an Administrator I've had many posts deleted, but they're just that posts, in the grand scheme of life most post are absolutely pointless. I challenge people to go back a few months and look at some of their old posts, I've done it and there's many that I don't even remember posting. People need to take a reality check and gain some sense of perspective. A post is not for life!
Jonbluefox9 Posted 28 February 2007 Share Posted 28 February 2007 Many people regularly go on the Leicester City forum and post things that have nothing to do with Leicester City but nothing happens to them. Seems to be one rule for some and another rule for others. Maybe if SUAS, Wils and Sheephead were 'mates' with some of the 'important' people on the forum then they wouldn't be banned. I think we all know that's the case! Delete this post if you want and then ban me. Don't want anyone to get offended...

C-man Posted 28 February 2007 Share Posted 28 February 2007 i agree with your post, but as for the banning thing i remember muz, daniel, w e l l m a n, freund, sir jj wilcox, ect all being banned in the past. more member = more ban worthy persons i guess, so the number will go up. anyway, as i understand it, it's not for a ban life and hopefully they will come back and read the forum rules and improve their posting All legends. Bring back Wellers and Wils. Just 'cos they are southerner's they shouldn't be alienated
Stinkenzo Posted 28 February 2007 Author Share Posted 28 February 2007 Just thinking about this.. Maybe the standard of new members is poor due to the standard shown by regular members. I mean, if the new members see people like SUAS and Wils posting rubbish they will catch on.. Not like SUAS and Wils post rubbish, of course
Alexikokopops Posted 1 March 2007 Share Posted 1 March 2007 BTW, when I said 'Alex' got a bit daft this afternoon, I meant alex(icocopops), not you. Just in case you thought I was having a pop! Ha. I got a bit bored waiting for my housemate's Wii to arrive and decided to try and work out how people managed to post so much. As you can see once I got past my usual 4 posts a day I struggled. All in all though, one day of daftness in two and a half years isn't too shabby going. I noticed some of my posts getting deleted for the first time in that two and a half years, but the majority of them were rhymes of "Wils". Hills. Jon the Hat Posted 1 March 2007 Share Posted 1 March 2007 People are getting banned because the overall quality of posts on FT have been declining lately. To be honest I'd rather not watch it decline and decline until I have no incentive to run the site anymore I don't think many people will argue with that. Keep it up mate, the site means a lot to many of us, especially those who live amongst no city fans whatsoever and need to get some perspective on goings on at the club. Most of the fun of being a fan is discussing what's happening with fellow fans!! I think the current splurge of new members is a lot to do with Mandaric Fever and is bound to calm down over time. Jonbluefox9 Posted 1 March 2007 Share Posted 1 March 2007 i think i's been covered, quite extensively, as to why they got a ban. Yeah, poor quality of posts apparently but your view of a poor post and my view of a poor post could be something totally different. I read many things in the Leicester City forum that have no relevance to football and are a few words long but moderators and administrators seem to know these people from social get togethers so just laugh along. I think some of them are poor quality. When it is people who the mods and admin don't know so well, all of a sudden these posts are viewed as poor quality. lookwhaticando Posted 1 March 2007 Share Posted 1 March 2007 This discussion could rage on for days. It's quite contentious really... what's crap and what's not-crap-enough-to-be-deleted. I mean... you have to be aware of what some people will think of as crap, so that when you post you're not busted for posting crap. That's quite difficult, it's such a vague and subjective point that nobody actually knows whether what they're posting is good, good crap or just plain crap. Minefield. I'd recommend a hall of shame where the most blatant crap that's been posted goes on display for all to see. That way, posters can learn from example, and get a better feel for what's deemed to be crap or not... I've seen it elsewhere and I reckon it can help matters to an extent... But the idea will never fly, so forget I mentioned it.

Fez of Mahrez Posted 1 March 2007 Share Posted 1 March 2007 There are three main LCFC forums to choose from. You can always chance your arm at Fox Fanzine or Talking Balls if you don't like the policy here. I would wager the kind of people who get banned here wouldn't fare too well over there though. But if you think about it... those with the most posts in the crap hole will be the ones who find themselves banned for extended periods of time. Repeatedly. It'll soon wear off. It should at least set some clear idea of what constitutes proper crap, and it ought to encourage many to post more sensibly... not all of the forums users fancy getting banned all the time, so they just might buck their ideas up.
