shen Posted 27 January 2005 Posted 27 January 2005 Should be another easy game, Vanuatu are better then the other 2 in the group but are still behind us by a fair bit. I would be suprised if Wesolowski played in this match as the coach is fully rotating the squad after each game. 59502[/snapback] I have a hard time taking the Oceania area seriously in football matters. Apart from Australia and some semi-pros from New Zealand it's all non-professionals playing for the other countries. A score of 19-0 reflects how ridiculous it is. Why they don't make a West-Asian and East-Asian (Oceania included) qualification instead is beyond me...
natas Posted 27 January 2005 Posted 27 January 2005 I think it's because at the moment Asia is really well off, with the amount of play-off positions they get and see no point in letting in another country that could possibly beat them. I wish we could get into Asia as that would actually give us some good matches and fairly often too. As it stands we only get 2 matches every four years that actually mean anything and are competitve, that's what I hate the most.
Ric Flair Posted 28 January 2005 Author Posted 28 January 2005 They won their last group match 9-2. Wesolowski was rested. That David Williams sound shit hot.
Ric Flair Posted 28 January 2005 Author Posted 28 January 2005 They play Figi tomorrow at 1.30pm Oz time. So when you wake up tomorrow dude let's hope Weso has knocked in a cheeky hat-trick.
Chandler Posted 29 January 2005 Posted 29 January 2005 er I know we are all big fans of young Weso but aren't we going a little overboard when the opposition would consider Hackney Marshes a big step up?

natas Posted 31 January 2005 Posted 31 January 2005 Wesolowski is playing in the final tonight against Solomon Islands, which should be a close match, and a crowd in excess of 10,000 people(its being played in the Solomons). Also coach Ange Postecoglou had this to say about him "James and David have done exceptionally well for us, and James will give us a lot of energy in the middle of the park. While we need to keep rotating the midfielders, he’s earned his spot for this final.â€Â

natas Posted 31 January 2005 Posted 31 January 2005 Well, we only just won our last game(against Fiji) 3-2 with a free kick in the 90th minute, so maybe about that level. Most of the time matches are walkovers but Fiji and Solomon Islands have become a lot better and are now higher quality opponents then New Zealand.
Mark Posted 1 February 2005 Posted 1 February 2005 In case anyone wondered. Australia has won through to the World Youth Championship (WYC) in the Netherlands, defeating Solomon Islands 3-0 in the final of the OFC U-20 qualifying tournament. The match was abandoned in the 80th minute with match officials concerned by the growing rowdiness of the host nation's fans - although the result will stand. A sixth minute goal from striker Mark Bridge gave the Young Socceroos an early lead while midfielder Vince Lia doubled the advantage on the hour. Sixteen-year-old forward David Williams scored the sealer in the 74th minute. Australia is Oceania's lone representative at the 2005 WYC in the Netherlands, commencing in June. Danny Vukovic (gk); Trent McClenahan, Aaron Downes, Jacob Timpano, Chris Tadrosse, Spase Dilevski, James Wesolowski, Stuart Musialik, Vince Lia, Billy Celeski, Mark Bridge.

natas Posted 1 February 2005 Posted 1 February 2005 Yes he is, he's a very good dribbler and has big raps on him.
filbertway Posted 2 August 2007 Posted 2 August 2007 Haha quality!Chandler mate, your well on your way for best phrase of the year with that. I have been a big fan of Wesolowski for a long while, i'm not sure what other board your talking about as I doubt I posted on there. I take a keen interest in the academy and Wesolowski has been one of the most consistent players there for a long while, i've also gone out of my way to seek info on him from Australians on the net. They all rate him, but since he has came here they haven't heard that much about him. I think this is the first time Weso has been called up by Australia for a few years, so it will be nice to hear how they think he has progressed. Do you watch the academy much dude? What do you think of Stearman and Dawson? Personally I think they are extremely promising and make some of our first team look like amatuers. Obviously i'm yet to see them have a good run against tough opposition, but after watching them over the past few years I doubt it will trouble them, especially in this shit league. I was one to get involved in the Petrescu hype, but having said that whenever I saw him I definately saw talent. He was so arrogant though, which you sometimes get with kids who know they are quite handy. With Wesolowski, Dawson and Stearman I think we have cause to be optimistic. These three could walk in to our team and look the part, it's just getting that breakthrough that's the hard part. 2 out of 3 wasn't bad ric
lildave3 Posted 2 August 2007 Posted 2 August 2007 2 out of 3 wasn't bad ric Good god man, i'm all for this old thread bringer back nonsense, but this is plain ridiculous.
filbertway Posted 2 August 2007 Posted 2 August 2007 Good god man, i'm all for this old thread bringer back nonsense, but this is plain ridiculous. I was jsut looking for evidence of Ric's sensible weso backing, as an example of good youth player backing and came across this thread. I like it.
DB11 Posted 3 August 2007 Posted 3 August 2007 **** me I was wondering why you were all going on about Levein, I thought he wanted to sign them or something Then I saw the post date.
Daggers Posted 3 August 2007 Posted 3 August 2007 The prodigy has helped to cure (temporarily) some of you lot of your obsession for moribund academy grads with a local postcode. But I must ask - why has it taken you lot so long to notice him? I was banging on about the kid 18 months ago on the other board.Yet another example of the small town mindset? Now, what does a FOREIGNER have to do to get noticed around here eh? Some of you bigots have got a word for that which you chuck around rather liberally... Wow - Chandler was a cnut back then too.
