davieG Posted 16 April 2007 Posted 16 April 2007 "But Darren Kenton has got a hamstring problem and I think his season is as good as finished. That's disappointing." Meanwhile, Worthington confirmed that skipper Paddy McCarthy was making good progress. He added: "Paddy is still struggling with the shoulder injury, but hopefully we will get a couple of weeks of fitness work and rough and ready work into him and then see what he is like for the last game or so."
lookwhaticando Posted 16 April 2007 Posted 16 April 2007 If news of McCarthy returning to the squad doesn't excite the fans, I don't know what will.
Wils Posted 16 April 2007 Posted 16 April 2007 If news of McCarthy returning to the squad doesn't excite the fans, I don't know what will. Oh great. We are staying up.
moseeds Posted 16 April 2007 Posted 16 April 2007 hang on...so who's left to play then? McCauley, Kisnorbo, Maybury, Stearman, Nissa, Mattock & Sheehan..Anyone else?
lee7 Posted 16 April 2007 Posted 16 April 2007 mcCarthy is a good team leader but makes to many silly mistakes

Wasyls Pec Deck Posted 16 April 2007 Posted 16 April 2007 Great, another half wit and half fit player ready for selection
Joe. Posted 16 April 2007 Posted 16 April 2007 It's not the greatest loss in the world. We have enough competent players in that position.
Ultra Posted 16 April 2007 Posted 16 April 2007 It's not the greatest loss in the world. We have enough competent players in that position. Really? Where have they been these last few weeks?
lookwhaticando Posted 16 April 2007 Posted 16 April 2007 Really? Where have they been these last few weeks? He's been injured this past month.
breadandcheese Posted 17 April 2007 Posted 17 April 2007      Please provide us with some evidence of that will you, because I find that very hard to believe. team  leader  Paddy  McCarthy  He has passion, more than I can say for most of our drab damp squad. I could not imagine Hughes taking a whack in the face, blood streaming from his head saying, "bandage me up and send me out boss". He is one of the few players at the club you can actually use the phrase "wears his heart on his sleeve".
andyh1884 Posted 17 April 2007 Posted 17 April 2007 He is one of the few players at the club you can actually use the phrase "wears his heart on his sleeve". But then you could use the phrase "leaves his brain in the dressing room". He's a liability, do we really need another one in the current side?
Wycombe Fox Posted 17 April 2007 Posted 17 April 2007 But then you could use the phrase "leaves his brain in the dressing room".
breadandcheese Posted 17 April 2007 Posted 17 April 2007 But then you could use the phrase "leaves his brain in the dressing room".He's a liability, do we really need another one in the current side? As far as I'm concerned, he is a kid, I think 23 years old. The best defenders we have had in recent years have all been early thirties (Taggart, Elliott). I remember Taggart when he first joined us making shed load of stupid mistakes. With the right coaching, he became a stalwart. Now in my opinion, McCarthy, like many other players in our squad, has gone backwards this season (Stearman, Fryatt, etc). He should not be captain, we know that. No-one should captain a team at 23 and this has created a rod for his own back and led to a lot of unfair treatment. Kisnorbo has not performed these past few weeks. He is supposed to be the top defender at the club, yet his positioning is as equally rubbish as the rest of our defence. He does not even attempt to marshall the defence which means as a unit it is all over the place (3 men running for the same ball, has happened a few times in the past few weeks). However, Kisnorbo does not get the same stick. My point is this, the coaching over the past year has not been up to standard. With the right coaching, we could see some completely new players. I believe McCarthy is one of these.

I agree entirely with what you've said, especially about Kisnorbo - points I've made in previous threads - but I'm saying I wouldn't rush him back into the side this season. He's been very poor this season, why bring someone back from injury & into a team that badly needs wins when he's under-performed all season & is prone to errors?

That I agree with wholeheartedly.
Geo V Posted 17 April 2007 Posted 17 April 2007 If Paddy Mac is fit, its time to sling in a 5-4-1 formation and pray for a point away from home, especially against Barnsley! Fancy football not wanted here!!!
DB11 Posted 17 April 2007 Posted 17 April 2007 If we can get a decent coach in Paddy Mac will become a great asset to this club. He has the passion, the bravery and the core abilitys. With some decent coaching, and a bit of experience he will become a great defender.

Fancy football not wanted here!!! 5-3-2 is safe enough considering how deep Hume sits. And yeah, I'd do it. I suggested a 5-3-2 a couple of days ago. Right now we're playing neither defensively or attackingly, just sitting in a no mans land and trying to do them both and failing. As it's the defense looking most vunerable of late, that's what needs shoring up. If we get on top and need to attack, the fullbacks can operate as wing-backs and go to 3-5-2. Hopefully.
DB11 Posted 17 April 2007 Posted 17 April 2007 You might have something there. But the coach shouldn't expect too many holidays! A guy called Rob Kelly is a good coach. Best some players have worked under
