Thracian Posted 25 May 2007 Posted 25 May 2007 With Martin Allen's arrival I predict the following. a) Our teams will be properly fit. b) No more than three or our current regulars will survive in the team for more than three months from the season's start. c) The average age of the side will increase considerably.

They can't get any less fit that's for sure. I sounds like Paddy K, and Hume would be his type of player. Who else?

Big clubs have shown interest in him and there's a vested interest in City continuing to increase his value. And Joe is nothing if not committed and wholehearted.

Aberdonianfox Posted 25 May 2007 Posted 25 May 2007 Hey guys thought this be a good time to send my first post ive been reading the board for a while and figured now is as good a time as any to take the plunge, Must say I'm looking forward to the new season already even though i'm 420 miles away in Aberdeen (only just moved up here so not missed a match yet!!). Mr Mad Dog seems to talk the talk and I for one think he can walk the walk, we need to move quickly in the transfer market though and bring in hungry players that want to wear the shirt, can't see too many of those type of players here already barr Paddy K and Hume Anyway guys hello
Geo V Posted 25 May 2007 Posted 25 May 2007 Welcome aboard Aberdonianfox a) I know MA has stated that he has all these behind the scene people in his teams so that his players should be mentally and physically fit but the fact is that his teams have failed to get out of the play-offs. Fitness is usually a key part in clubs progression as the season goes on so I cant see how we would automatically say that the players would be fitter than Wortho was getting them to be. b) The season starts in August so he wount be able to make many changes until 5 completed months have come and gone. Its down to MA to get the players in place for the start of the season but lets not forget that we do have quite a few players, especially the younger ones like Stearman, Fryatt and Weso who have at times over the last 18 months shown some great form but for one reason or another have gone backwards. These are the type of players that I expect MA to challenge and to get the best out of them. c) It depends what team sheet you are reading from. Kenton is 29 is Sept, Tiatto is 34, AJ 33, Maybury 29 in August, Hendo 31, Elvis 27 in a couple of months, McAuley is 28 later this year. All these players have featured quite a bit for us already and I havent even counted some of the old sod loanees that we had aboard. I dont neccasarily think that we will be an older team. For example, if Hendrie comes into the midfield for AJ or Tiatto we actually gain a few years! Im sure some experience will be added but I feel we may get some of the lower leagues better players who wont be so young. Maybe had a Warnock or Worthington became manager we would have gone straight for oldies but I predict some younger so called hungrier lower league players to sign on.
Aberdonianfox Posted 25 May 2007 Posted 25 May 2007 IMO Hendrie would be a quality starting point though, I just feel it would be a benchmark for the kind of players we bring in. Premiership experience in abundance still has plenty of years left in the game and is a tough little git! A 20 goal striker has got to be fairly high up on the list of priorities my pick possibly would be Carlton Cole, big strong pacy striker also with a point or two prove never really been given a chance wherever he's been
Vacamion Posted 25 May 2007 Posted 25 May 2007 My 1st post in this one, too. Hello all. I am optimistic. He'll get the best out of our good young players, add a bit of experience and, I suggest, most importantly, he will make them cross the white line with the right attitude. A manager called Martin can't be a bad thing, eh ?
Guest Chocolate Teapot Posted 25 May 2007 Posted 25 May 2007 Joe Mattock. Big clubs have shown interest in him and there's a vested interest in City continuing to increase his value. And Joe is nothing if not committed and wholehearted. He's a bloody good player, and is commited as any. I would ideally however like to see him play 25-30 games, there is a danger that we could burn him out and he does seem to pick up the odd injury, but every 16 player seems to.

I'd agree that he is a promising talent I'm just a bit worried that many seem to be pinning very high hopes on him i.e stearman and fear it could have a negative effect on his performances would like to see another left back come in this season so we can use young mattock sparingly maybe jordan whose been released by man city
Simi Posted 25 May 2007 Posted 25 May 2007 One of the playing staff to stand up to him and be out the door the following week.
Aberdonianfox Posted 25 May 2007 Posted 25 May 2007 Elvis giving up the bentley and coming to the training ground in a vauxhall corsa MA bid to get the players to stop poncing around?
Head Honcho Posted 25 May 2007 Posted 25 May 2007 Hi to the two new members Does anyone know if that sandpit up Wanlip is still there? That'll get the cobwebs outta their bones for the start of next season!
Jay Posted 25 May 2007 Posted 25 May 2007 I'd agree that he is a promising talent I'm just a bit worried that many seem to be pinning very high hopes on him i.e stearman and fear it could have a negative effect on his performances would like to see another left back come in this season so we can use young mattock sparingly maybe jordan whose been released by man city what a negative effect on his performances!!!! the lads been a liability for the last season nightclubs and casinos more important than his career!! he needs a kick up the ar5e more than most and can't surely get any worse
Aberdonianfox Posted 25 May 2007 Posted 25 May 2007 Hi to the two new members Thanks Allen, Not so sure about Wanlip but when they come up north on pre-season there free to come and clear the leaves from my garden i'd pay £10 an hour to see some of them work for the first time

Mort Posted 25 May 2007 Posted 25 May 2007 Allen’s comment about wanting to bring in players who have “hunger†and “passion… for the shirt†suggests that there wont be any dramatic increase in the average age of our squad, I think there will be the arrival of some “old heads†but they will be players who marry experience and proven quality, at the same time I think he’ll be looking at younger players as well (loans?), one thing does suggest its self Mattock’s reputation and his commitment could sit very well with a manager like Allen…

I liked how in his interview he talked of signing players, not for there level they play at but for there hunger, as you say.
