Tommeh Posted 11 June 2007 Posted 11 June 2007 Yeah, I see where you're coming from. Leeds looked appauling all season. Can you imagine it next season?!! However, we have had to cap all season tickets this season due to selling so many, that's not bragging, (well it is) but it shows that the fan base is there. So if we stay in the Premiership then we will (theoretically) sell more season tickets meaning that we will need the extra room. I think that's the basis the board are going on. Makes sense really. But yes, if we don't stay in the Premiership then it might be a bit of dodgy decision. yeahI fully understand where your board are coming from and the decision certainly has some plus points and a few drawbacks, and I must admit if I was a derby fan I'd be really excited by this news, but certainly rival fans will view it differently. and as for the extra room being required that'll be for all the fans who have given up on Forest
Ultra Posted 11 June 2007 Posted 11 June 2007 There will be a number of poor teams in the Premiership next season. Wigan, Fulham and perhaps Middlesbrough spring to mind. So the chances of the sheep staying up are perhaps not as outlandish as they seemed a couple of weeks ago. They will have to spend big to strengthen their squad, though, and perhaps put their expansion plans on hold until the season after next. As for Europe......the only way they'll get there is if Billy Davies writes a song!
Thracian Posted 11 June 2007 Posted 11 June 2007 I think Im the only person living outside of Derby who thinks that Derby will stay up next season. I think so too. Furthermore all the gripes in the world won't disguise the fact that Derby have done far more in a short time than we have. And if it wasn't for MM the situation would probably be a damned site worse. All the Derby progress emphasises is our woeful inadequacies during the same period. If Derby are giving it a go having reached the Premiership who can blame them?. Yes it might fall in on them but I'd love it if we were having to make or reject the idea of expanding our ground. But it wouldn't ever have happened with the soulessly unadventurous approach of recent seasons. And there's no point in us saying anything now until we're setting totally different and better standards for ourselves. Hopefully we won't have to wait long but having Derby on the doorstep only serves to continuously emphasise the massive challenge facing Martin Allen. Cos I'm not sure how long I can stand the sound of those sheep bleating!

But if, for example, we stayed in teh Premiership for two or three seasons, then youd be hoping youd make a push for Europe. Anyways... Rumour has it... Rob Earnshaw may be signing soon.
potter3 Posted 11 June 2007 Posted 11 June 2007 There will be a number of poor teams in the Premiership next season. Wigan, Fulham and perhaps Middlesbrough spring to mind. Yeah I thought Middlesborough were going to struggle this year with their inexperienced manager. Yes Europe is a long way off. Yeah I heard that too, would be a good signing.
Ultra Posted 11 June 2007 Posted 11 June 2007 Yes Europe is a long way off. But if, for example, we stayed in the Premiership for two or three seasons, then you'd be hoping you'd make a push for Europe. We did it in ONE season under MON. But that was with a far stronger squad than you currently have. Anyways... Rumour has it... Rob Earnshaw may be signing soon. That would be a start - perhaps even double the players of genuine Premiership quality at your club. Who will give him the service, though?
Ultra Posted 11 June 2007 Posted 11 June 2007 Yeah I thought Middlesborough were going to struggle this year with their inexperienced manager. Viduka and Yakubu scored enough goals to keep them clear of trouble. But now Viduka has gone and Yakubu seems poised to follow him out the door. Southgate could face a real struggle trying to replace them..

lildave3 Posted 11 June 2007 Posted 11 June 2007 My housemate's a Boro fan and he reckons they're off down unless they get a striker in soon. I said a few days back I think Boro will go down, Southgate just isn't good enough imo and with 'The Duke' now gone, well...
NFFC Chris Posted 11 June 2007 Posted 11 June 2007 I did'nt realise there was a sheepshagger here!Unfortunately I can see D*rby staying up next season as well
joely22 Posted 12 June 2007 Posted 12 June 2007 I did'nt realise there was a sheepshagger here!Unfortunately I can see D*rby staying up next season as well What do you think your chances are under Super Colin?! You think Commons will sign a new deal?
Sods Posted 12 June 2007 Posted 12 June 2007 Bit of a shame how derby, leicester and forest are all seperated. Allthough i do hate derby and forest with a passion. i would love to have the days of all three of us in the premiership.
DB11 Posted 12 June 2007 Posted 12 June 2007 Woah! That is a lot of Derby. I hope we can increase our capacity when we get promoted!
Maybes Posted 12 June 2007 Posted 12 June 2007 Woah! That is a lot of Derby. I hope we can increase our capacity when we get promoted! Erm no.
Ultra Posted 12 June 2007 Posted 12 June 2007 Woah! That is a lot of Derby. I hope we can increase our capacity when we get promoted! We could. But let's cross that bridge when we come to it.
NFFC Chris Posted 12 June 2007 Posted 12 June 2007 What do you think your chances are under Super Colin?!You think Commons will sign a new deal? Not confident despite the signing of Lennon, playoffs at best for us next season which we'll lose
Stevosevic Posted 12 June 2007 Posted 12 June 2007 Not confident despite the signing of Lennon, playoffs at best for us next season which we'll lose Dont worry, you've got a petition to force Collymore out of retirement!
SystonFox Posted 12 June 2007 Posted 12 June 2007 haha this is hilarious news. if you can stay up for 3 consecutive seasons and maintain an avrg of 30k then build for more but right now you cant deny last season it was full of glory supporters. where were they the season before when you finished 20th (lower than we just have may i add)
Simi Posted 12 June 2007 Author Posted 12 June 2007 Woah! That is a lot of Derby. I hope we can increase our capacity when we get promoted! You can see it now can't you, we get promoted increase capacity, Milan leaves us, we get releagted. Then back to sqaure 1, only worse
Lillehamring Posted 13 June 2007 Posted 13 June 2007 according to this site (assume it is for last season): http://www.fansfocus.com/football/champion...attendances.php derby's lowest attendance was 21k - even in a promotion seasons - clearly that implies glory supporters and is less than half what they are planning. mind you according to that site, it looks like the already have built a new stadium!!! as for staying up - i'm not so sure - wasn't exactly a high quality championship season, was it
eaststandtom Posted 14 June 2007 Posted 14 June 2007 Oooo... Jealousy creeping in there?! Or is Super Milan going to guide you there? Maintain a Premiership place for three years is pointless. The club will jsut be stuck in one place. The idea is to move forward or maybe you've forgotten that after being stuck at the bottom of the Championship for the past few seasons? good luck to you. i for one, despite the rivalry, think derby are an example to be learnt from. a club, underachieving and struggling financially, turning things round and doing what we all hope happens for city next year. believe me, the idea of progress isnt lost on anyone here at leicester but, as you should appreciate, the ripples of administration go on for years after the original event. however, it isnt always achievable due to circumstances. darn circumstances!!!!
The Reverend Posted 14 June 2007 Posted 14 June 2007 As someones said, the Glory Hunters were out and the lowest attendance for a match was 21k. Thats shocking in a promotion season. Yes we can learn from Derby, but not in this instance we cant. With the money they spent last season, they would have been laughing stock had they not gone up. But thats all footballs about now - im not criticising the spending of money. I wish we had that money and could buy our way into the Premiership.
breadandcheese Posted 14 June 2007 Posted 14 June 2007 44,000 seater stadium. Big white elephant. There is simply not the fanbase to fill the stadium. Derby may have the number of fans, should they all buy tickets, but unless match ticket prices are lowered, they won't sell anywhere near 44,000, unless playing the top four teams. This could land the club with a lot of debt, just as our stadium did.
