Manwell Pablo Posted 7 July 2007 Posted 7 July 2007 All for a serious cause though?I mean, Global Warming/Climate change, it's got to be sorted Bollocks to it, I really couldn't care less if the worlds under water in 200 years time I wont be here. Sounds selfish I know, but
Blue Bob Posted 7 July 2007 Posted 7 July 2007 Bollocks to it, I really couldn't care less if the worlds under water in 200 years time I wont be here.Sounds selfish I know, but Its a fair point. Until USA and China can be arsed to do something about it the rest we do is just a drop in the ocean. It winds me up when the councils insist that you recycle or they will fine you. So all your recycled newspaper goes to make pulp, but the demand for using recycled paper pulp is small so the surplus just goes into landfill - is that environmentally friendly. All the plastic that you send to be recycled isnt processed in this country because it is too expensive so it is shipped to China to be processed and I am not so sure that is environmentally friendly either.
The Reverend Posted 7 July 2007 Posted 7 July 2007 Hypocrisy of the highest order like others have said. A concert in aid of 'the earth', with the stars flying to their venues in jets, then driving the the actual concert in their 3 litre Bentleys. And then, you have all the resources used at the actual concert. Pure comedy really.
stez Posted 7 July 2007 Posted 7 July 2007 i was watching david baddiel try and get into a debate on the issues with a scientist, on live earth, and if we'd've been in the 16th century he'd've been burnt as a witch or earlier still murdered by the church for being a non-believer, such was the response from the scientist. he (baddiel) only wanted clarification on the facts. it (human caused global warming) is the new religion and woe betide anyone who dares question it! but nice clean air is a lovely outcome. on recycling we will be fined if we have to much in our black bin ('normal' rubbish) but south kesteven council doesn't even recycle it's own rubbish! and of the rubbish in the black bin, how much do I actually create? not very much, i'm merely the conduit between the packaging manufacturers and the land fill.
Tommeh Posted 7 July 2007 Posted 7 July 2007 I remember hearing somewhere that we account for 1.7% of climate change in the world and that USA is over 21% So whilst something needs to be done, it should be those fat yanks in hummers who do it.
lildave3 Posted 7 July 2007 Posted 7 July 2007 Bollocks to it, I really couldn't care less if the worlds under water in 200 years time I wont be here.Sounds selfish I know, but Exactly how I feel.
Tubes Posted 7 July 2007 Posted 7 July 2007 could not give a monkeys to be honest for all we know we are just coming out of an ice age
Rincewind Posted 8 July 2007 Posted 8 July 2007 The councils stopped issueing green bags where I live. Most of my waste could be used for recycling but I only have one bag a week which goes in the dustbin. I do not have the time or inclination to sort out one bag when big industry dump thousands tonnes of industrial waste all over the place without sorting out the green glowing parts from the normal parts. So I too am being selfish as I believe any disaster that befalls planet Earth will not happen overnight but a gradual process over several thousands of years. By that time the Earth will be so over-populated thatt here will be little time to think about going green. Anyway I think a lot of damage done already is irreversable and a few concerned scientists and enviroment aware pop artists is not going to repair any damage done. They have made people worldwide aware of the problems but how many people will it take making a long term committment to do what we are being told is needed for it to make a difference?

Everyone needs to, bit unrealistic tbh never going to happen.

I saw that too, and I agree with him. It was interesting when he said that through out history we've always had to have some man made apocalypse waiting just over the horizon, yet life still goes on.
He's not bald Posted 8 July 2007 Posted 8 July 2007 I saw that too, and I agree with him. It was interesting when he said that through out history we've always had to have some man made apocalypse waiting just over the horizon, yet life still goes on. The whole thing seemed crazy to me...don't get me wrong the principle was sound but most of the artists would have flown in,the electricity used to perform, broadcast and watch the concerts on TV would have been incredible and on top of that the spectators had to get to the venues...carbon nuetral??...me thinks not!
Hullfox Posted 8 July 2007 Posted 8 July 2007 Understand people's apathy about it, the apocalyptic threats from some seem very extreme. The attitude of ignoring it because I won't be round in how ever many years to reap the results is indeed selfish and I'm glad that my grandad didn't have the same attitude in the late 30's. How else would I have been able to enjoy the warmer weather we will be getting?

Raj Posted 8 July 2007 Posted 8 July 2007 Posted previously in the Music thread- These concerts are a joke right??? Who do these so called pop stars think they are telling us mere mortals to curb our CO2 emissions etc.. when they have their Bentleys and private jets whisking them from venue to venue!!! I wonder how much Co2 is being pumped into the planet whilst all these concerts are being staged? The electricity used will not harm the planet eh? The cars, buses etc..being used to transport all these people to the stadiums...don't they create Co2??? Call me an old cynic but Al GOre should fcuck off back to USA (The biggest ommiters of CO2 in the Workld!!! whilst the Uk is only 2%) ) and sort his own Country out before telling the rest of the world to!!!!

Not posted previously in another thread. Maybe they could be just trying to raise awareness. Maybe nobody thought it worthwhile answering first time round.
Nationwider Posted 8 July 2007 Posted 8 July 2007 Does anyone know how much CO2 would be produced by burning Phil Collins?

Hullfox Posted 8 July 2007 Posted 8 July 2007 Does anyone know how much CO2 would be produced by burning Phil Collins? Yes, I looked this up earlier and the calculations show that it would in fact be a carbon neutral exercise and therefore very much worthwhile.
Raj Posted 8 July 2007 Posted 8 July 2007 Does anyone know how much CO2 would be produced by burning Phil Collins? Thought he was dead anyway!!!
AoWW Posted 8 July 2007 Posted 8 July 2007 It did nothing to encourage me to change my lifestyle, to be honest. No, it won't make me think twice about buying a gas-guzzling car or going on long-haul flights as often as I damn-well please. Yes, I will, however, continue to separate my rubbish into the various array of blue / black / brown bins I have... it isn't too tricky and lessens any guilt I may occasionally feel. I will also continue to consume copious amounts of wine and walk the 20 yards or so with the empty bottles to the nearest bottle bank - again, it seems kinda rude not to. I have to say, I'm all for global warming in principle though... lovely!
Rincewind Posted 9 July 2007 Posted 9 July 2007 Thought Madonna gave off a lot of energy in her performance.
