Kilworthfox Posted 15 July 2007 Posted 15 July 2007 I want a new p.c! I'm going to get a desktop I play games on it, so i think i need a good processor and graphics card I play games like fm2007 and call of duty 2 so my question to those who know better would be what specification do I need and how much should I spend? Where would you get yours? Thanks Tom

Kilworthfox Posted 15 July 2007 Author Posted 15 July 2007 Isn't there a thread for computer questions? PC Pro A-list yeah its here!
Bluefoxtim Posted 15 July 2007 Posted 15 July 2007 I wouldn't buy a computer from any high street stores. Have a look on the Dell website and you can do a pick-and-mix of what you want.

JadeFalcon Posted 15 July 2007 Posted 15 July 2007 fook dell and pc world, pcworld are the worst place to buy any pre-built computer from, build it yourself they are really easy for a GOOD gaming maching your looking on spending £600+ never buy from pcworld, dell are getting slightly better at offering people what they want but pc world are crap, they just tell customers what they want to hear, BIG PROCESSOR, BLAH this software that, blah software that, but they cut you down to minimal ram and onboard gfx and soundcard, which is where alot of people get caught out, just look at the adverts on TV, core 2 duo processor, but give u 512megs ram, then make it out like they are doing you a favor, buy today and we'll give you double ram for free if you have the knowhow you can build a bigger better machine for less money than what they will sell you also the geek desks, half of them know toss all, i love confusing the pcworld staff going in and asking them questions, a good one to test out the staff is ask them if the pc your buying is LRF compliant if they come back and say yes they are talking balls cause LRF (figure it out for yourselves) its not as techy as you might think

I think the PC's you buy there are OK but it is worth shoppiung around, If you want to buy off the high street also have a look at Tescos (unless they are shut again) as they are trying to under cut the market. I would do a lot of your comparrisons online though and save your legs.
Nationwider Posted 15 July 2007 Posted 15 July 2007 I'd avoid PC World too. If you want a pre-built system, go online and do a bit of research. Every PC I've bought has come from Evesham. The build quality is superb, and in 10 years of using their computers (one desktop, one laptop) I never had a single problem with them. They aren't the cheapest though, but you pay for what you get. Their customer support is supposedly very good too, although I never needed it. The best way to get what you want is to build it yourself - I've just done this, and it's surpringly easy once you've done your research. You get exactly what you need, without any annoying extras.
JadeFalcon Posted 15 July 2007 Posted 15 July 2007 yeah i have spoken with fox in PM and have looked into some parts for him from dabs athlon 64 X2 4800+ 2.5ghz msi K8m890 motherboard 2 X crucial 512MB sticks of PC2-6400 160GB seagate barracuda MSI radeon X1950 512MB GDDR3 left the casing and dvd drive requirements up to him but the price without those is £325

If you can build your own, but be careful doing this, ensure you obtain capatible parts otherwise you can end up with loads of problems. Dabs is a good website to checkout prices. If you're unsure, find out where and when the next computer fair is locally to you. Go and check round the stalls that sell complete systems, compare prices, if you do buy one ensure that it is from someone preferably local, then if you have any probs you can easily take it in to them. You may find a pre built system cheaper than you could build one yourself. Good Luck

Kent Fox Posted 17 July 2007 Posted 17 July 2007 amen to that Got to admit, my next lappy will be a Mac. These Windows based ones slow down and pack up within 2 effing years Apple appear to have got it right and I've yet to hear a bad tale yet about them.

Send me a message if you want the number mate.

Ive had mine just over three years and has never crashed on me. They don't crash, they don't get virus's and they defrag themselves in the background whilst running. God I should be a mac salesman.

Bryn Posted 24 July 2007 Posted 24 July 2007 Personally I've been very impressed with my Dell. Just make sure you know exactly what you need before hand.
THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 24 July 2007 Posted 24 July 2007 I recommend this, the Amiga A1000, a cracking little computer
