I think the goalkeeping situation we have is weird. Logan isnt ready but showed glimpses of class last season but needs to improve things like positioning but he is already a very good shot stopper, Rab is a good keeper too but has hardly played and is now a very well paid stand-in GK coach, Nielsen could be the answer but hasnt impressed in pre-season thus far apparently but I think we need to give him a chance and Hendo was seemingly our No1 but like all our keepers at the moment, has two good days and one bad.

I don't think Hendo has made that many errors although his distribution needs some work but all in all in the games that I saw, I thought he was reliable enough. None of the aforementioned keepers seem to be that vocal and lack some organizational skills at the back but I reckon N`Gotty will prove to be a huge part of organising things back there and whoever the keeper ends up being at the start of the season will have a solid defence in front of him to marshall.

It's only important if we were planning on promotion - which we aren't.

Being up there, or there abouts is the target...but not promotion. A steady building of the squad so that we are able to settle into the Premiership.

Even with a new keeper we would need a wholesale revamp of the squad again in a years time if we went up - so, do we have a quality keeper? Probably not. Is it vital to us? Probably not.

We say goodbye to Rab in a season and so next summer would seem the best time to bring in some decent hands. In the meantime Jimmy looks like he'll just add an extra dimension to Mandy's rollercoaster ride

I think you're being a bit naive to think Mandaric is spending all this money and not aiming for promotion. He wants us there as quickly as possible and has shelled out more cash than almost anyone else in the division in an effort to get us there next season. You might have believed that 3-year plan bollocks but I don't buy that in the slightest. I doubt Clemence and DJ could have been persuaded to come here above the likes of Charlton, Southampton and Watford if they weren't told we were going all out for promotion this year.

I think, well at least I'm hoping that a big part of our game this season will be the ability and confidence of the goalkeeper to put decent balls out to our defenders rather than the big boot so prevalent in the last few years. So the ability to kick a decent ball is not so important as it will hopefully become a minor part of our game.

I'm guessing that this would have been a natural ongoing approach that Nielson was used to. When Logan first started it was something I noticed that he did rather well but eventually stopped doing it - was this on the instructions of Kelly/Stowell :dunno: . What I am sure of is that Henderson has rarely if ever thrown the ball out in this way, again this could be the Kelly influence.

I think it it is vital that we have a goalkeeper who is sufficiently confident in his own ability and his defenders to be able to do this we need to retain possession and that starts at the back, besides we have no one upfront who is good enough to receive this type of hoof ball and then make any sort of use from it.

still don't know why we didn't go after Lee Camp or Richard Wright, both good quality keepers that we could of got fairly cheaply

Tell that to Mandaric who honestly thinks we're gearing up for a top 6 finish. If we don't get near that, i'd be surprised if Allen lasts the summer.

Neil Alexander or Lee Grant were both on free's this summer and both far more superior to any goalie we have on our books.

It worries me that we seem to be collecting bad goalkeepers on long contracts. They're very difficult to get rid of. Hopefully Nielsen will come good but if he turns out to be no better than Henderson or Logan then it's another shocking decision.

We sold McCarthy for that massive price didn't we? Faith tells you there's plenty of sapiosexuals out there.

Yea.

Naive.

That's me.

Oh yea, he did say that about the Top 6 thing - must be true then, eh.

I'm right naive me, but happy!

I think it is quite naive to think mandaric has spent a lot of money. firstly he recived 650,000 for Paddy Mac, which he spent on Clemence (750,000) he has also spent 800,000 (this year) or 1,600,000 over 2 years on Dj Campell, which may well mean selling fryatt for a fee of around the same figure (1.6) so if he does sell Fryatt, he will have spent no money on transfers whatsoever. as well as this mandaric spent only 600,000 on the club, with further money being paid if we gain promotion, so this money being spent (on wages and for the club having been promoted) would all be recouporated by the bonus for promotion (20 mill) which is probably whenMilan will sell for a healthy profit. the fact is Milan is a business man and not a Leicester fan and is not taking a very big risk with money at all.

As for the keepers i think henderson has been the most consistent we have had for the last 2 seasons. Logan is a long way short of this standard and i think he always will be, Nielsen ddeserves a chance but as many of you are saying Hendo's biggest floor is distribution, Jimmy's is even worse.

Bosmans do cost money mate but instead of the selling club getting a transfer fee and the player a smaller signing-on fee, the Bosmans get huge signing-on fees and persuading the likes of N`Gotty, Kishishev, Cort and the rest of them to sign may well cost MM well over a millions squid. Also, you have added Fryatts £1.6m sale into the equation lol!! That hasnt happened yet and there is no reason to think it will as he is part of the pre-season tour to Scotland and is doing OK thus far. Also you say that Clem was £750k but that could rise to £1m and DJ`s fee could rise to £2.1m.

MM is spending far more than I had anticipated for this stage in his tenure and has even come out to say that 3 or 4 may follow. He could have easily stamped his feet and demanded that we get Fowler on a freebie and pay him a signing-on fee but instead backed his manager to spend upto £2.1 on DJ, a relative gamble on someone who hasnt really had a consistent run at this level.

MM is spending plenty and after years of penny pushing, we are now right up with the top handful of clubs in this division who can compete for players and thats without a Premiership parachute payment.

Totally agree. Irrespective of how it all turns out this season I cannot see how anyone can question MM's commitment and willingness to spend.

The fact that he's generally avoided transfer fees and spread the outlay one way or another just pays testimony to his financial good sense.

He may have a three year plan but while it might be expecting too much at least he's given us a chance of top six success this year considering MA'smotivational abilities.
