Guest Basildon Fox Posted 31 October 2012 Posted 31 October 2012 What the fvck do I care as long as it's not me there. Anybody with an ounce of compassion would care. The same with anywhere an atrocity, genocide ordisaster happens in the world. Some people will have lost loved ones as well as property they have accumulated throughout their and their ancestors lives.
Smudge Posted 31 October 2012 Posted 31 October 2012 In the way that the black population of New Orleans were neglected in a place that bears little economic value to the US in comparison to New York. The Gulf Oil Industry, The Mississippi River Transportation System and Tourism do not make New Orleans undervalued. There are 10 times as many African Americans in New York as there are in New Orleans. I don't remember their neighborhoods being singled out as being ignored. When a city is 60% black, guess who's going to be mainly affected.

MPH Posted 1 November 2012 Posted 1 November 2012 I understand over 60 people died in the caribean...
MPH Posted 1 November 2012 Posted 1 November 2012 The law here is no different to English law, insofar as if a healthy tree falls on your neighbours property, it is regarded as an "Act of God" and no-one is to blame. However, if you knew the tree was rotten or unstable, and it fell on their property and caused damage, then they could sue you for negligence. I believe English tort law has the same basic elements. intresting... You can claim on your insurance for hail damage to your roof though?
Smudge Posted 1 November 2012 Posted 1 November 2012 intresting... You can claim on your insurance for hail damage to your roof though? True, you can claim for anything as long as it's covered in your policy. What I was talking about is the civil law as in pertains to Force Majeure versus negligence.
Jordan Posted 2 November 2012 Posted 2 November 2012 Sandy's death toll in the U.S. is now up to 90, with fears that it could rise as recovery teams are finding more dead. I have family in Staten Island, and they're saying tonight that the situation there is catastrophic. It's the most remote area of NYC, and rescue and relief efforts don't have easy access. People there are getting restless and worried. NYC is still going ahead with the marathon on Sunday, which--considering the amount of police used to monitor the event, the state of transportation in the city, and the race's start on Staten Island--is absurd. There are still widespread power outages where I live. My downtown area is pretty much business as usual. But there is only one gas station operating out of the six or so in town, and the lines of cars leading into it is insane and choking traffic. The trains on my line are still down, with no estimated time when they'll resume service. Con Edison (the power company in NYC + northern suburbs) says they don't expect to restore electricity for most customers until November 11. I have friends from Long Island coming to meet me Friday morning--we're heading up to New Hampshire for the weekend as previously planned. He's been without water, power and work all week, and he says LI is a mess. The gas lines are huge there, with people standing between cars to get gas for their generators (first world problem, I know, but still... Plus gas generators are being used to power machinery used in the clean-up). In his words, he "can't wait to get the **** away from all this." Compared to many in the area, I'm quite lucky that I can pretty much get through my day normally. The first thing that I am going to do when I return home is donate blood.
Guest Posted 2 November 2012 Posted 2 November 2012 Atlantic coast of France hit by 120km/h gusts yesterday and today. Had a fun walk on the beach with the dog this morning.
Guest Posted 2 November 2012 Posted 2 November 2012 NY time lapse video during the hurricane. There's a lot of wasted electricity there. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-20177371

Jordan Posted 2 November 2012 Posted 2 November 2012 Ok, so while we're on the topic of casual racism... Looters Target Coney Island - New York Daily News http://m.nydailynews.com/1.1195080 The owner of a liquor store said that Looters "went straight for the Hennessy..." As if anybody that's heard any hip hop song for the past 15 years didn't know what would be the first liquor taken!
Danno Posted 2 November 2012 Posted 2 November 2012 Is there any way of putting pics on here from an iPhone ? Got a few of the crane. Was about 6 other people in the whole airport apart from my Family on Wednesday so got through check-in and security in about 5 minutes .
