Just in the process of setting up a website. I'm not very good at these things so bear with me. So far I have

A guestbook

A message board

A chatroom

A daily cartoon

A links page (add your own but no porn please)

A calender

A photo page

I've not set any rules yet for the messageboards but I'd prefer messages to be mature. The chatroom can be used as well as/instead of MSN if that ever goes offline. The chat can be a bit more flexable on there. The link is below. I may put a daily quiz on it if I have time. I may even need the services of a co-webmaster but I'll see what happens first. Feel free to sign the guestbook No abuse please. Banning people would not be good this early into the websites existance.

um, let us know when some 'content has been added'

all i saw was bravenet stuff...

good luck but i think you should have put something in it before advertising it...

You need some filth too. Always include filth.

Yes. Filth is good. It's what makes the internet so good. Just think, the current generation will never have to face the humiliation of buying a porno mag from the local newsagent. mmmmm Filth.....

Not sure what to put on it yet. With the calender I can put down City fixtures (if I can get them myself) and forthcoming beer festivals. There is a journal that I can download which I'll let somebody do match reports and daily news on City. I want to try the trivia quiz but do it themed as I may not be able to do it every day. Something like Movies one week sport the next and General another week or whenever it changes. I don't know how the tables and records work or if the Trivia site does that. I hope so.I want a varied subject matter mainly free and easy and fun. Not too serious. As for 'filth' , if I am able to partition a section off that is password protected and only available to 16/18 plus only then maybe a little soft 'filth' :kissing: can be allowed. I don't want to be raided and my PC taken away by the porn police looking for videos of bestality.

I would welcome help with the first page because I believe that is the most important part. That is what people will see when first logging on. Like the first page of a book. If that is interesting, you read on. At the moment I have the free one. It would cost money for more space and no ads. I will have to check about co-admins. I've had websites before and the main reason why they never worked was because of the initial setup.

The link is below where it says visit my website. I'll have a look now to see if I can add a couple of things. Got a hour or two to spare.

Sites look more professional in my opinion with some affiliates logos on the pages. It also helps attract traffic to the site and you earn money if people buy stuff after clicking on the link of your page. Come to think of it, with so many members on this forum they are mad that they haven't got links around the site to make it money!

Just added Foxestalk to the links. Gave it a good write up.If I was Catholic I'd have to go to confession now.

But you describe FT as "one of the best" when surely it is "the best". Unless everyone knows about another site which is loads better with a long running thread with pictures of cleavages?

No it needs a lot doing to it. Short of time until Monday. I'd like to put on a trivia quiz maybe the home page and news items or better part of the item in a link to other parts of the sites. Will have to work out how to do it first. Would soomeone like to add City's fixures to the calender?

Well, for a starter you should consider getting a proper domain and some proper hosting. Sub domains and free hosting is not very attractive for a visitor.

The navigation looks all distorted, and the colour scheme of the website is very off putting. Try maybe giving the website a lighter feel.

I don't think that you should have advertised it until you have added content. That is probably the biggest mistake. Oh, and free forums don't look attractive enough.

You should try and maybe build the guestbook, chat, photos, links, cartoons and the calendar into the site as opposed to having them go to external links. Get a layout made yourself, and build them into frames. Maybe have the chat on the homepage too.

Overall, I probably rate the website 3/10 but it doesn't look like much effort has been put into it, especially as there is no content there and the welcome message is still on the forum.

Good effort though, and you can only improve :)

I was trying to see what I could do before laying out money. To build yourself a knowledge of HTTml is sometimes needed I could upgrade if that would help. I advertised it in case I need help. I don't mind havinga co=webmaster for the initial setup and maintaining it I will pay any fee.

Does this mean that I should delete the site and start again? Don't mind doing that if somebody could suggest an alternative where it is easy to add content without too much tech knowledge.

I was going to upgrade when I had content in.

I have set up a trivia quiz but am unable to put the link on my home page. I did not want to permantly put the link here because it would conflict with Hairy's

Doodlebug Brain Challenge

I thought it wasn't working telling me I'd already played but you have to log out the other quiz first. Just played and I'm second. Strange as I thought I was the first to play it. I will use the default questions for now. They are pretty easy and no F1.

Sorry Ken I tried to play your quiz but I can't get on. I logged out of the other quiz but when I tried to log onto your game it said username invalid. :dunno:

Try having a go at designing and coding your own layout, if you can't do that then you could either learn how to, pay someone to do it, or just download a free layout for the time being.

Then get a program Frontpage or Dreamweaver (I use Dreamweaver - it's the best :)) and you can easily add content or whatever. You could also use notepad and code your website raw. Maybe go to somewhere like Freewebs and choose something like advanced or whatever and just upload your files to a free web host whilst you get a taste of what it is like.

And it is good that you are asking for help etc.

I just had a quick look at Dreamweaver. £399? Bit much for my pocket. I don't want it for a buisness just mainly fun. I used Bravehost because it is simple to use and free. But as it has been pointed out you lose out on quality with things like forums and chat pages. Also the choice for templates is limited. I do not have any HTML knowledge although I do have a book on it. Maybe i should start with the basic program that MS or my provider gives.

That really is harsh, Dan.
