London Underground Strike

Absolutely fuming at the moment - these lazy final salary pension bastards bring the whole city to a standstill because they want a guarentee that theyre not going to lose any pension or their jobs as a result of metronet going bust....

Whole thing is a mess. Me and my other couple of million other london amigos had to walk to and from work today. My commute took me 90 minutes instead of 40.

Arrrrgh, when they come back to work on friday I will be so tempted to shout a whole load of abuse at the driver. Even though its not their fault - its the maintenence workers!

It was going to happen sooner or later...

And thanks to me, it's sooner rather than later.

Underground Song.

Captures the mood quite nicely, I reckon. :):smile:lol:D

lol lol Haven't heard that for ages.

At least when you do shout abuse at the workers you'll be able to get away faster because of the extra :o excercise you had today. :o

and the extra excercise i'll get for the rest of the week

Agree with sacking the lot of them.

I remember years ago you could ask an underground worker how to get from A to B and quick as a flash they'd tell you-these days getting one of them to speak English would be a challenge!

Posted

you should rename it to 'annual' london underground strike...

they can't lose, they go on strike, they get something new...

you can almost imagine a phythonesque union meeting, trying to decide what to ask for this year....

pathetic, especially when the whole mechanical system is rotten to the core...

really miss the tube, but not that crap every summer..

Ahh Monk you get paid enough anyway mate. :P

Yeah but walking 45 minutes between wateloo and the city every day doesnt bear much relation to that! I'm not rich enough for the taxi twice a day anyhow!

Some of my mates didn't go to work and wont be going to work tomorrow either as the trip by bus would take ages. One got his firm to pay for a nice comfy cab too lol. The whole system is rubbish and backward and needs major investment as its always running with severe delays or line closures so I feel sorry for the workers there at times.

Hopefully the Olympics will help the whole network because thats about the only chance we have of investment.

Stratford was a complete nightmare.

I was walking up the escalator and was like OMFG as there was about 200 people outside. In the end they had to get Police to put up barriers to get us out.

Yeah, my heart bleeds for those little yuppie sh!ts who are paid more in a month than Tube workers are paid in a year!

And I bet THEY don't have to worry about their pension schemes, either!

Thats a bit of an idiotic way to look at things isn't it? The tube is full of all sorts of workers trying to get to there jobs for themselves and their families. Those of which you describe can afford to have days off or get a cab in but 95% or so of the rest are buggered when this happens and have to set out at times hours earlier to earn a living.

Of course - everyone that uses the tube is a highly paid stockbroker on over £28,000 a month. How stupid of me to forget it.:blush:

And there was me thinking that there were tens of thousands of people trying to make their way to minimum wage jobs in order to raise the monthly rent on the flat they pay through the nose for.

Well done Ultra, again you have managed to save the day with your insight into the big issues. :appl:

Christ on a bike!

The people I described were the ones who put that website together and ripped a Paul Weller tune to shreds!

I have no sympathy for them whatsoever.

A 3-day strike may seem harsh on commuters and tourists but London Underground management has been appalling for years.

The mayor should have sorted it out a long time ago.

Ahh, you must mean those famous yuppies - Dr Suman Biswas and Dr Adam Kay

They were junior doctors at the time.

They produced the song to raise funds for cancer relief.

Sometimes you must wonder why people give you so much abuse?

Of course the tube should have been sorted out years ago and probably before Livingstone got the gig but I think you need to get down to London and see the people who usually use the system to understand how much these strikes can effect there lives. I know its only 3 days but the low income category workers will probably have there months buggered by this strike!

Although the "yuppie shits" were the ones who wrote/produced the song, they're not the only ones who have to ask "Where's my fooking train?" as you very well know.

To attack them for merely reflecting the mood of just about every regular tube user is just a little silly isn't it?

As for Red Ken sorting it out... it's kinda funny that a socialist/communist Mayor has failed to 'sort out' the public transportation of the capital. I'd have thought that would be one of the priorities of a socialist with little power to raise/distribute taxes or wealth.

Were they on 28k a month back then, too?:D

How many of you saying that actually LIVE in London? Because I've never, EVER had a problem with a Tube worker's English. Ever.
