davieG Posted 11 September 2007 Posted 11 September 2007 From the Mirror AXED Leicester boss Martin Allen is set to be offered a return to management. Allen is top of Gillingham chairman Paul Scally's wanted list since Ronnie Jepson resigned from the League One side after four defeats in five league games. Scally said: "We need to find someone who can turn a team of talented players into a team that can win games."
Phube Posted 11 September 2007 Posted 11 September 2007 Good luck to him if he gets it... I hope they do well!
Thracian Posted 11 September 2007 Posted 11 September 2007 From the Mirror website. Doesn't sound as if Gillingham are especially fearful about MA's eccentricities. At least I could do the Gills job from home I suppose... and I couldn't do much worse than Ronnie.
Geo V Posted 11 September 2007 Posted 11 September 2007 MA has yet to get any side promoted so hiring him will always be a big risk, regardless of the level. I know this may be hindsight but MA`s methods may well work in the lower leagues so he may well be suited to a club like Gillingham. I can remember questioning some of the almost Sunday league motivational stuff that he did in the past and wondering if it would work with us. It seems it didn't.

Is this the same Daily Mirror that has been banned from Derby County for misleading reporting? I can remember questioning some of the almost Sunday league motivational stuff that he did in the past and wondering if it would work with us. It seems it didn't. Tbh, did he really get a chance to prove whether his methods worked or not? But all the best to him and I hope he does well!
Kent Fox Posted 11 September 2007 Posted 11 September 2007 Speaking to some Gills at the weekend and they knew Jepson was on his way. They do not think that MA will go there although I think they would be happy if he did. Reasons? MA salary might be an issue with Scally, and Scally being a tw@t were the main ones. I think he'd do a job there IF Scally allows him some money to spend. Might make the Gillls worth watching though.. just to see MA screaming at them. Entertainment and Priestfield are not words normally in the same sentence.
DB11 Posted 11 September 2007 Posted 11 September 2007 If he goes there I'm sure he will do bloody well and get them to win if they play with passion (they are already talented according to the chairman )
Lord Nibblington Posted 11 September 2007 Posted 11 September 2007 Scally is a complete penis. Hah. It's funny coz it's true.
dandannieldanok Posted 11 September 2007 Posted 11 September 2007 At least that's more Allen's level.
Tommeh Posted 11 September 2007 Posted 11 September 2007 At least that's more Allen's level. Yeah cause he was well out of his depth here
Tommeh Posted 11 September 2007 Posted 11 September 2007 Did he actually do anything here? Was he actually given time to do anything here? 4 Games, 4 Fcking games!! I cannot be bothered with a debate about this but no manager can be judged on 4 games and even if you do want to judge him then theres was 1 bad performance that against Accrington and ok the 1st half v forest. Blackpool we did everything but score, should've won at palace and played watford off the park! Even if you want to bring his signings in - Clemence, Chambers, Campbell, Fulop even Clarke, Newton and Hayes to be precise. Certainly the better half of our signings the other half were MM's. He's also re-launched the career of MDV, built up a lot of optamism for city fans and recognised certain "dead wood" from last season wern't good enough. I know theres not much use in defending him now, hes gone and we must move on but questioning what he did here is ludacris. Good luck Martin, hope your back in football very soon

If we end up with Warnock or Reid, I might go a lot.
Brainy Posted 11 September 2007 Posted 11 September 2007 I don't see what "4 games" has got to do with anything. You are right with your analysis on the games but Mandaric didn't sack him because of performances, did he? ^ and thats actually a question, not me trying to prove you wrong.
Tommeh Posted 11 September 2007 Posted 11 September 2007 He hung some pretty flowers outside the walkers Seriously though for me he did a lot of good things in a small space of time and if it wasn't for Milan beeing unbelievably picky and getting involved I firmly believe he'd still be here. Most of all for me he seemed to have won over the majority of the fans, something that can take many managers 1 or 2 seasons to do. If it wern't for MA we'd have JFH possibly Fowler and possibly 1 or 2 other "has been's" in our squad, don't panick though I'm sure Milan will get others in in January
Scow Posted 11 September 2007 Posted 11 September 2007 Was he actually given time to do anything here?4 Games, 4 Fcking games!! MM has stated that it's nothing to do with his record in 4 games. No one knows for sure what happened behind the scenes, but it's certainly runs a lot deeper than a couple of results.

Matt Posted 11 September 2007 Posted 11 September 2007 Good Luck to him and hopefully he firmly sticks two fingers up at Milan!
Geo V Posted 11 September 2007 Posted 11 September 2007 Good Luck to him and hopefully he firmly sticks two fingers up at Milan! Like this?
demon_dog Posted 11 September 2007 Posted 11 September 2007 Hope he gets the job. He may then take Elvis with him and casino Jimmy.
Flynny Posted 11 September 2007 Posted 11 September 2007 I have a horrible feeling he'll not get this and will end up with the Forest job.
Lord Nibblington Posted 12 September 2007 Posted 12 September 2007 Hope he gets the job.He may then take Elvis with him and casino Jimmy. Why on earth would he take those two? He didn't even want them here!
