Bellend Sebastian Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 I feel it is a cop out myself, just look at the squads Davies and Boothroyd have got into the PL. It's a very good point. But with funds presumably available, any new manager is going to want to bring in players he's convinced about rather than try and make do with a squad that includes some he's not too impressed by. The squad last season wasn't nearly big enough, but now it's in danger of going too far the other way and having loads of players in it that won't get a look in. Competition for places shouldn't just mean loads of players. If a big chunk of those players aren't that great then it's hardly competition, is it?
lookwhaticando Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 Feel free to add or take as you please (Unless your Thracian Porter and Dodds are soulbound to this list) The wit around here knows no bounds!
Daggers Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 Didn't Megson say something like this about his squad at Forest? ...and he was right. Players out all the time, cavorting in the town centre the night before matches. Forest had a shocking problem.
Geo V Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 List to go.Maybury. Hammond. Kenton. Dodds. Porter. Douglas. Neilsen. Hellings. Newton. Henderson. Feel free to add or take as you please (Unless your Thracian, Porter and Dodds are soulbound to this list) I`d probably loan Porter out and see how he goes and I`d keep Nielsen to see if he is as good as he was in the penultimate reserve game we played but I`d agree with the rest to an extent. The Newton transfer hasn't quite worked out and we have better options at RM and Hellings has become the forgotten man and hardly has got a mention as a possible replacement for Weso.
Thracian Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 List to go.Maybury. Hammond. Kenton. Dodds. Porter. Douglas. Neilsen. Hellings. Newton. Henderson. Feel free to add or take as you please (Unless your Thracian, Porter and Dodds are soulbound to this list) It would make no sense to let Dodds go seeing he's on loan for a season, has scored three goals in six games when basically out of position and we'd look a bit daft if he gets 18+ for his first season in League football. Porter too should be retained right now because we only have the seemingly injury-prone Hayes as an alternative left winger and, although Sheehan has been doing well at left-midfield there's no saying he won't be needed at left back. So until we get a better left winger - and I don't see Ferreira as a left winger though I might be mistaken - there's no point leaving us vulnerable for nothing. I'd add Djeziri to your list and at least one of our regular strikers because finding one, probably two alternatives would be a priority. That would still make 10.
Finn Claw Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 List to go.Maybury. Hammond. Kenton. Dodds. Porter. Douglas. Neilsen. Hellings. Newton. Henderson. Feel free to add or take as you please (Unless your Thracian, Porter and Dodds are soulbound to this list) Dodds (like Thrac says) is already on Loan Porter - I'd probably send on loan if he isn't getting football here, depends if Feierrra is anygood Sappleton is another i'd send on Loan Djezi or whoever you spell it, if he isn't up to much get rid but I've no idea
Bellend Sebastian Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 Did rab not go Motherwell He's on loan at Millwall, I believe. I might have dreamt that though. I dream all sorts of things
Webbo Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 You can't just send somebody out on loan. Somebody has to want to take them on loan.
Moreton Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 I agree with Megson, i think we need some new player, some creative mid player?
Rocky Dennis Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 He might talk the talk. But will he get rid of the players that are not needed and bring in this supposed quality ? I don't see any signs yet. Vicious circle tho innit! These players are shite, who's gonna want them off us??
Geo V Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 Vicious circle tho innit! These players are shite, who's gonna want them off us?? For this level a lot of the players are below standard but that doesnt mean that some of them wont be almost star players for their D1 and D2 sides. To be honest I think that some lower end Championship clubs could find a place for players like Hendo, Maybury and Kenton but the likes of Elvis will have to look at D2 or even non-league for a game.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 Bigger problem now though - because we have money we've given some of these average players two or three year contracts - which makes it hard to pass them on - but GM has enough there to make it work, so work with it, stop yur moaning!
adam Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 Just what the squad want to here before a tough away game, A fine motivational speech by the manager.
FleckneyFox Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 Players to definately sell 1. Nielsen 8. Kishishev 9. Cort 12. Fryatt 19. Hammond 24. Dodds 28. Kenton #. Maybury #. Douglas Players to posibly sell 11. Newton 18. Hellings 20. De Vries 31. Henderson Players to possibly loan 25. Gradel 29. Sappleton 30. Odhiambo 33. Rowe-Turner #. Cox #. Magunda #. Garner #. Tuttle #. A. King #. Beswick #. Kee #. McKay #. A. Chambers #. Pentney #. Cisak We have alot of young players with potential i'm not sure how many of them can break into the first team obviously not all of those can go out on loan because we'd have no youth team. That'd leave us if all of those went. J. Chambers Kisnorbo N'Gotty McAuley Clemence Hume Campbell Kaebi Wesolowski Hayes Sheehan Stearman Fulop (Poss.) Logan Porter Mattock Ferreira Djeziri (Poss.) That leaves us with 18 men so Megson will possibly be looking to bring in 6-8 players in, in the next 12 months. If we were to get promotion i reckon about 8 of those would be prem quality.
Eastern Fox Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 Megson has kind of got a point here: we have got a lot of dead wood (like most clubs I'd imagine), but surely the management/coaching side is almost as important. I don't think the squad is quite as bad as he makes out. He needs to make the players to repeat the kind of form we showed against Watford-we didn't win that game through luck did me?
dandannieldanok Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 Players to definately sell12. Fryatt I guess you didn't go Forest then
Alexikokopops Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 He might talk the talk. But will he get rid of the players that are not needed and bring in this supposed quality ? I don't see any signs yet. Let's hope he's not like a galvanised bucket on a market stall... all noise and nothing in it.
demon_dog Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 I think many of us agree with Megson that we not only have a large squad, but also one lacking in the quality required to gain promotion. Who's fault is this? Many fans would say it's Mandaric's signings, but I also think that quite a few of Martin Allens signings are also suspect. For those who seem to think that MA is some sort of Messiah, I think you need to reconsider. MA came from a lower division, with a lower divisions mentality when it comes to buying quality players. Whomsoever looked good when compared to the players he knew, are not neccessarily good enough for a higher level. I think Milan made a mistake when he brought a manager in from a lower level, at least now we have someone who knows not only this division but also the premiership. This can only be a good thing with regard to knowing the type of player we require. Let's hope that through loan signings for now and buying players in January, we achieve the required standard of player to get us promoted.
