Matt Posted 25 September 2007 Posted 25 September 2007 Finally Geelong have made it! Saturday 4.30am (GMT) Setanta Sports 1 - AFL Grand Final - Geelong v Port Adelaide. Supported Geelong for 5 years now pretty much a similar team to Leicester in comparison, always Mid-table to disappointment, but this year there in the final for the Premiership! Just e-mailed Setanta because normally the grand final is on Sky Sports but didn't realise it was on Setanta this year so if I buy a month subscribtion for Setanta would it run to 25th October or would it just run to the end of September (I.e - I'll be basically paying £9.99 for a week's worth of Setanta) And you can't just watch a game on a pay per view basis you have to buy a month.
purpleronnie Posted 25 September 2007 Posted 25 September 2007 Thats wierd I supported geelong as well. From way back in the early 90's, I used to watch it after I did my paper round.
Bert Posted 25 September 2007 Posted 25 September 2007 Another wacky sport that seems to last forver.
Matt Posted 25 September 2007 Author Posted 25 September 2007 Thats wierd I supported geelong as well. From way back in the early 90's, I used to watch it after I did my paper round. I supported them since my first trip to Oz, I was pushed into supporting them and had no choice Been to about 3/4 games, My first match was Geelong v St Kilda and Barry Hall started a massive fight I was loving it!
hairy Posted 25 September 2007 Posted 25 September 2007 St Kilda was may team because thats where I lived (well Elwood) Went to see two teams play at he cricket ground one night. Amazing ground. 'F' knows how you are ment to see anything happening on the crease from the top
Pete_foxes Posted 25 September 2007 Posted 25 September 2007 I watched my first game of AFL the other week, don't fully understand it.. all seems abit mad no rules, but its fooking good
C-man Posted 25 September 2007 Posted 25 September 2007 I supported them since my first trip to Oz, I was pushed into supporting them and had no choice Been to about 3/4 games, My first match was Geelong v St Kilda and Barry Hall started a massive fight I was loving it! I went to see West Coast vs St. Kilda last year, and have supported the Eagles since. Not such a good season as last when we were champions... I also went to see Richmond vs Sydney so I've seen Barry Hall, and he is, a legend!
DanTheFoxBhoy Posted 25 September 2007 Posted 25 September 2007 Go Geelong - would have been good to have an all-Victorian final but Kangas had their chance for a home prelim and stuffed it, going on to get raped in Port Adelaide. Was sooooo satisfying seeing Geelong get up over Collingwood last week, and all those tossers crying in the stands
DanTheFoxBhoy Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 Oh good fking God. Aussie rules? You need to tone down your excitement there buddy.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 St Kilda was may team because thats where I lived (well Elwood)Went to see two teams play at he cricket ground one night. Amazing ground. 'F' knows how you are ment to see anything happening on the crease from the top Yeah im a St kilda supporter went to all of our games in melbourne this year and one in Sydney didn't finish a match sober tho. The Melbourne Cricket Ground is an amazing ground and its preety good for cricket, im going to the the grand final on saturday front row right next to the players bench so will probably have my ugly mug on tv a few times. I cant what should be a good game undecided who too go for yet. Barry Hall is a thug and a traitor
Geo V Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 I havent seen a game of this in years but i used to love watching it at one stage as it was fast paced and a bit brutal at times. The blokes with the white coats who stand by the side of the posts to confirm what points have been scored are classic as they look like a pair of bakers.

Yeah no more coats or silly hats and quite often are wearing orange, yellow or green no more white unfortantly. Getting excited for the big one and the big grand final parade goes right by my office and can see it from where my desk is
DanTheFoxBhoy Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 Barry Hall is a thug and a traitor Amen to that I havent seen a game of this in years but i used to love watching it at one stage as it was fast paced and a bit brutal at times. Yeah it's quite brutal compared with other ball sports, though not as much as it used to be. Dunno about fast paced - once a player has marked the ball (caught it for all those AFL virgins), then they get gifted automatic possession for a few seconds until they play on. Therefore it's a lot more stop-start than say, Gaelic football where there is no 'gifted possession' and you just have to run like buggery once you've got the ball. What I like about AFL over Gaelic football though is that once the play is open you can tackle a player, and if they hit the ground and haven't disposed of the ball then they lose possession. In Gaelic football they don't bloody tackle and it's so frustrating! I guess that's why the Irish got so pissed off when we beat ten shades of shite out of their team during the International Rules series.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 28 September 2007 Posted 28 September 2007 12 hours and counting fcuk im going to be hung over for it
Matt Posted 29 September 2007 Author Posted 29 September 2007 Geelong Hammered Port Adelaide! Geelong 163 - 44 Port Adelaide. My cousin in London had had about 7 pints of Guinness by 11.30ish, My cousin's in Oz were crying, My uncle in Oz was pissed and crying...Can't even imagine this type of thing or feeling of happiness happening for Leicester, but then I suppose it's not really likely the equivalent will ever happen for Leicester. I'd be happy if we could win a few games and been reasonably near the top of the Championship. <_< Was the game any good Soccerroo Fox? Guessing it was by the looks of the score. Who did you support in the end?
DanTheFoxBhoy Posted 30 September 2007 Posted 30 September 2007 That was awesome - Geelong have played so well this year they deserved that win. They play footy the way it should be played - quick and solid. After a season of the keepings off bullcrap that got served up by Essendon it was a fresh relief to see a team who knows how to play the game. Bombers for the flag next year
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 1 October 2007 Posted 1 October 2007 The game was awesome just watching the 2 best sides for the year and seeing the game from up close it was like men v boys. I had a bet on Paul Chapman man of the match and me brother had Steve johnson who won it so was barrcaking every possesion chapman got. But the my personal favourite moment for me was getting to touch the cup after the game during the lap of honour but it really was a great day the atomsphere in and around the ground all the hype was just excellent
