Matty Fryatt could actually be amazing

I used to not rate him at all.

But the effect he's made recently has been terrific.

And i never knew he could do this! :o

He is one of the many players we have that has split the fans down the middle regarding what he can, has or will do. The talent is there, anyone who knows anything about footballers should be able to see that but like most of our front men, can he do it consistently? Im more worried about the constant need for a target man, teh constant changing of the strikers and even dropping or playing of Hume in midfield. Maybe teh strikers are all too similar, I'm not sure what the deal is but we have some decent strikers. All they now need is some service from midfield!

He is, for me, a natural finisher but he will never reach his potential due to his obvious lack of pace.....

Give him the service and he will score goals. He makes things happen as well, I think his creative skills are underrated. He was at the heart of the move for the goal against Villa, he can dribble and he's a good finisher. Get his confidence up and give him service and he is a 15-20 goal a season striker.

He isnt slow but isnt fast either. Too much is made out of pace at this level and it needn't be as many of the defenders are no more than average speed.

spot on m8,and give him the service top strikers need, and you have a very good player

I've always rated him. He is a natural finisher and score's goals. His pace is his downfall and i believe if he had pace he would be playing in the prem now.

But that just sums him up... At this level, fine.... Never gonna be a Prem striker....

I think he is a true finisher. Question as to pace just look at Teddy Sheringham.

You touch on a good point but Sheringham has some special qualities and is outstanding at bringing others into play and picking the right option.

Fryatt is still young and may improve.

But right now he is certainly no Sheringham and has faults to work on. But he's done the first bit right by getting back into the side on merit and notching a couple of excellent goals.

Let's hope he keeps it up and has the strength of character to admit his weaknesses and the determination to tackle them.

Fryatt is not unusual in that way. What I've said applies to all our young first teamers. But like those others, and providing he's prepared to learn, it is what he does well which matters most.

Over the years there are quite a few strikers who have done well without being express pace. It depends what there overall game style is I suppose and with Fryatt, he posseses something that most defenders at any level hate, forward players who run at them with the ball and try to use skill to get by them. He seems to be doing a great job at Sheff Weds today, lets hope he manages to bang in a goal in the second half.

Fryatt has lots of faults but as I've said with others it is what he does not what he doesn't do that counts. The more passers and movers Leicester add to their side the better Fryatt will fare but, in the end, he will need to score from more places and in more ways. He will need to be at his sharpest possible.

Fryatt has always struck me as a player who would excel in a very good team who plays the ball on the deck but Im not sure if thats the GM way at all. Anyway, it sounds like he did well today as did Hume and GM even gave them a rest for some reason which I find strange considering we have an International break coming up lol.

I didn't see the change of strikers as a problem - Campbell might well have scored - but I couldn't understand the idea of bringing Kenton on. It sounded like the plug had been taken out of the bath.

On eof GMs failings is he tries to keep what he has and he must have learned so dar in his managerial career that sitting back and playing that type of football invites pressure from sides who had previously had no momentum. The QPR game is another example of giving a side a chance when we should have carried on with the mentality of "offence being the best defence" as the ball in the oppositions half means we wont concede any goals.

Has has scored 2 goals, when he does it on a constant basis then he'll be amazing... the problem is he won't!!!

Fryatt needs to score 15 goals a season to be an acceptable striker. Excellent requries 25+. Amazing 30+

Fryatt will do well to score 12 and has got 2 in approximately one fifth of the season's programme.

Amazing was an exaggeration, i simply meant that i think he is far better than i had expected him to be.

You also need to play most games with a settle strike partnership to score 15 goals a season.

:yesyes: This point is going to come up again & again & again because as they say you can't teach an old dog new tricks!

Im just hoping it gains us more than it costs us which is possible proved by his time at West Brom :dunno:

If a guy is good enough to get 15 goals a season or more he'll get enough games.

Not at all.

If we take your opinion from the back end of last season, Fryatt would not be anywhere near the first team this time around to get one goal never mind 15. You`d have Elvis and Dodds ahead of him if you were in charge and it was pre-season and he wouldnt get that chance despite his ability.
