BMR Posted 25 October 2007 Posted 25 October 2007 Megson appointed at Reebok 25/10/2007 GARY Megson has been appointed manager of Bolton Wanderers. The former West Brom and Nottingham Forest boss has signed a two and half year deal at the Reebok after holding talks with chairman Phil Gartside today. Megson controversially walked away from Leicester last night after only six weeks in the job. He replaces Sammy Lee, who was sacked after a poor start to the season, which left Wanderers at the foot of the Premiership. Gartside said: "We feel Gary is the right man to take Bolton Wanderers forward. "I have paid particular attention to his career and he has demonstrated to me that he is prepared to roll his sleeves up and has the right termperament for a battle, which this season is undoubtedly going to be. Decisive "We have made decisive decisions over the past few weeks and this is one of them. It is not about me, Gary Megson or any other individual - it is all about Bolton Wanderers surviving in the Premier League. "We have to be fully-focused on the task ahead to make sure we achieve immediate success. "I have spoken to the staff and the players and we are all committed to get behind Gary and turn our fortunes around." Megson will watch tonight's UEFA Cup clash with Braga and take charge of this weekend's league encounter with Aston Villa. Megson managed before in the Premiership with West Brom, who he twice steered to promotion to the top flight. But his record at the top is far from convincing - winning only seven of 48 games. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This was a big suprise!
isaidno Posted 25 October 2007 Posted 25 October 2007 Bolton fans are mad on their forum Mich are u pi**ed ? decent manager ? what the **** are you talking about! He and that fat **** Gartside should never be allowed in the Reebok!!!! Manwell Pablo Posted 25 October 2007 Posted 25 October 2007 I am simply in disbelief that Bolton have appointed him. It is one of the most absurd decisions in football to date. Agreed. Who knows maybe it will work for them
renards Posted 25 October 2007 Posted 25 October 2007 We may have been used as a pawn, but this pawn could be worth £300,000. If MM had sacked him (which I suspect would eventually happen), MM would have had to pay him!! I wish I could make £300,000 in 6 weeks^^ You mean you don't I'd see about a rise ASAP, your being taken for a ride
The Reverend Posted 25 October 2007 Posted 25 October 2007 Strangley enough, having given this some thought, i think he could do well there. He will tighten up the defence thats a cert, and i think that with strikers such as Anelka, they will score the 1 or 2 chances a game that he was making the team create at Leicester. And that is the difference.

The likes of Anelka, DJiouf etc won't like being asked to defend and can be very moody in general!!!!

In a way, he is similar to Allardyce. Oh, and change your bloody avatar!
ASH17LCFC Posted 25 October 2007 Posted 25 October 2007 I bet bayern munich are cacking their pants, just think 18 months without a job and now he is gonna manage a team against bayern munich in the UEFA cup. All that hard work big sam done last season to get them into the UEFA cup and now look at them...

How long until the ginger one converts Nicky Hunt to a centre midfielder? My money is on him playeing there Saturday!!!
Ric Flair Posted 25 October 2007 Posted 25 October 2007 How long until the ginger one converts Nicky Hunt to a centre midfielder? My money is on him playeing there Saturday!!! I'd like to see Anelka's reaction when Gary tells him he's playing as a holding midfielder in a 6-1-2-1 formation on Saturday.
Maybes Posted 25 October 2007 Posted 25 October 2007 I'd like to see Anelka's reaction when Gary tells him he's playing as a holding midfielder in a 6-1-2-1 formation on Saturday. With gary speed upfront
Simi Posted 25 October 2007 Posted 25 October 2007 I'd like to see Anelka's reaction when Gary tells him he's playing as a holding midfielder in a 6-1-2-1 formation on Saturday. From Carl Cort to Nicolas Anelka
danny. Posted 25 October 2007 Posted 25 October 2007 I'd like to see Anelka's reaction when Gary tells him he's playing as a holding midfielder in a 6-1-2-1 formation on Saturday. 6-0-0-2 surely? that's what city played under megson. (i know that doesn't add up to 10 outfield players, but stearman and newchamberston don't count as a player)
ithuriel Posted 25 October 2007 Posted 25 October 2007 bolton got by on being well organised and constantly harrying and attacking , if smegson goes for his sitting back with a large defence plan like at leicester they may very well get slaughtered and the front two of anelka and diouf will quit and go elsewhere.
