maddog Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 fantastic play first half an hour. We scored a great goal, it was refreshing to see us sprinting forward and attacking quickly a bit like Arsenal, we played great. We slowly drifted out of the game in the next hour though Its a point away from home, if we win our home games then that will be fine
syston_fox Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 Am I the only one who really couldn't give two shits about the Premier League at the minute and wouldn't mind if we didn't go up any time soon? I said the same thing to my mate the other day. Having these two games at 5:20 kick offs has made me realise how much I love having most games kicking off on a saturday at 3pm. I wonder what percentage of games would have the traditional kick off time if we were to go up

But then you've gotta play on sunday against the teams who've been in the UEFA cup.... and Setanta seem to like an odd selection of games
lcfc_jme Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 Nope - we'd be just like Derby - fooked every week!!!!! Exactly. Paying near-on £40 a ticket (at least, not to mention other costs) to games like Chelsea, Man U, Liverpool and Arsenal away in the league knowing you're in for a stuffing sounds fun, doesn't it?? Then being played off the park by teams like Pompey, Reading and Spurs?? Not scoring a single away goal before November?!? I'd love that loads.. Nope, I with you, Yeah Premiership's great, Great players, Great clubs, but I just wanna see my club playing well and winning, we can't do that in the Championship, let alone the Premiership. Obviously playing well and winning leads to the Premiership but lets just focus on playing well and winning in this league first. I don't care about the clubs or the players in the Premiership either, if I'm honest. Your point about playing well and winning is valid and all, and obviously if we can't win down here then we've no chance up there. But like, games such as Burnley away on a Tuesday night. Southampton away on a Tuesday night. I'd much rather that than Wigan or Reading away on a Saturday evening / Sunday lunchtime, to be fair. There's more passion down here, I think. If we were to get promoted, I'd really begin moaning about the fans, as this club would do even more to attract the well-off and the families, do more to ruin the atmosphere and we'd get all the fairweathers coming back out of the woodwork; the ones who haven't been to a league game since we were last in the Prem. lcfc_jme Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 How did I not write that? I have no idea. But you more than made up for it here: I am getting seriously pissed off with footballers. What about the countless thousands of blokes of a similar age who work full time, and then play 90 minutes on a Saturday and more often than not a Sunday too? Even if they are just playing for their local pub on a Sunday, these lads also are paying for the privilege of playing football. I am sure any one of those would snap off the arm of a professional for the chance to swap places and earn a fraction of what some of the greedy tossers are getting. The moaning prima-donas need to get a reality check or shut up. All of which I also agree with and is another downside to life in the Premier League. Overpaid mercenaries turning up week-in, week-out just going through the motions and not giving a shit, constantly harping on about how they need more protection and they're so tired. Aww diddums. Wan kers.
Floating Fox Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 Overpaid mercenaries turning up week-in, week-out Just like Maccy's eh? Being immature aside, spot on.
Tommeh Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 I have to say really well said JME for all your recent points in this thread, I'd hate it too at least in this league we compete and as fans all away days are enjoyable bar Charlton this season. I mean what really is good about going to the emirates / Anfield and going "oohhh this plae is amazing. Oh look Adebayor has just scored. 1-0 down already"
DanTheFoxBhoy Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 What a load of donkey crap. How can we come back on in the second half only, somehow, to get 19% of possession?? (The shittest stat I've ever seen btw - even worse than St. Mirren v Celtic) And then Burrows takes off John, the only player who was threatening in attack? Only to put on Cort?! And then he takes off Campbell for Newton!! Fair enough Campbell hadn't got much of a touch all game, but Cort on for Campbell would have made much more sense. The second half was thrown away IMO and the 'post match' report was a load of shit. Fought hard my arse.
David O'Leary Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 Chambers/Kaebi for right back.Stearman for Rushden. Reserve Sunday football if he trains really well
Fez of Mahrez Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 Sorry jme, Lisa, Tommeh et al, it may be nice and easy trying to win games on Professional difficulty level but sooner or later we're going to have to step it up to World Class. Just spare a thought for Nottingham Forest who are stuck trying to work out the controls on Amateur.
ASH17LCFC Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 As a derby fan would say ... Where would you rather be. the PREMIERSHIP OR THE CHAMPIONSHIP ? And don't lie people ...

I mean what really is good about going to the emirates / Anfield and going "oohhh this plae is amazing. Oh look Adebayor has just scored. 1-0 down already" Bingo. Away days in the Premiership would (in some cases) be enjoyable atmosphere-wise, but they'd rip your wallet in half, rub it in shit, set it on fire then hand it back to you. And you'd be played off the park more often than not. Take a few heavy batterings as well. Sounds fun. Sorry jme, Lisa, Tommeh et al, it may be nice and easy trying to win games on Professional difficulty level but sooner or later we're going to have to step it up to World Class.Just spare a thought for Nottingham Forest who are stuck trying to work out the controls on Amateur. I can't wait 'til we have to make the step up Fez, seriously. I can't wait for more players like Hammond to come to our club and demand bigger wages, to play even worse. I can't wait for us to perform worse every week than we do at the minute. I can't wait to try and support a group of players who care less about the club than they do at the minute. Not every game in the Premier League would be like the cup games we play at the minute - they're one-offs. How poor are we at remaining consistent?? Still, I hope we're in the Premier League by the time we start following the example of the NFL / NHL and taking games abroad to expand the global market and bring in more financial benefits. Oh my I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about it. Not as far off as you might think. As a derby fan would say ...Where would you rather be. the PREMIERSHIP OR THE CHAMPIONSHIP ? And don't lie people ... I'm not lying. I'd rather us be a Championship club.
Tommeh Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 As a derby fan would say ...Where would you rather be. the PREMIERSHIP OR THE CHAMPIONSHIP ? And don't lie people ... If you can compete, Premiership of course but the reality is that if clubs go up with no planning like it will be torrid for them like Derby and Watford last season. Spoke to a derby fan a week ago and they are hating it, the away games really are not worth going to unless you fancy taking a pic-nic and admiring the ground. No goals and one point at Fulham and almost £100 spent each on days like the emirates / Anfield / Whie Hart lane At least at this level we stay in touch with places like colchester which made our great game what it is today.
syston_fox Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 As a derby fan would say ...Where would you rather be. the PREMIERSHIP OR THE CHAMPIONSHIP ? And don't lie people ... At this moment.... honestly i'd rather be in the championship. Fun days out at places like Colchester and you get the excitement of having a big cup draw with Chelsea etc.

Yeh but take may, say we are in the play offs finals ... Well .. but ... that could be the winner from hammond
Micky Ruddle Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 I'm not lying. I'd rather us be a Championship club. I'd rather us be in the Championship too. As the recent points which have been said, the pricing is ridiculous. In one of the papers this morning, it says how much over the last ten years ticket prices have gone up. And it is, to be quite franck, ridiculous. And to see us go 1-0 down, which again has already been said, would be a kick in the teeth.
syston_fox Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 Yeh but take may, say we are in the play offs finals ... Manwell Pablo Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 Obviously getting thumped 6-0 at Anfield and The Emirates is no fun and every Derby fan will tell you they'd rather go to Oakwell and pick up the three points than pay 50 quid for a ticket to a Sunday Lunch ruining game, and watch your rather poor excuse for a Premiership club get a good toning. However Derby are in the mess they're in because they didn't strengthen there pretty average Championship squad from last season. The ideal is going up, getting a few decent players in and making a go of the Premier League which teams like Reading, Wigan, Brum, Pompey etc etc have done. With the team we have at the minute I'd prefere to be in the Championship but with an improved team, Premier League anyday even if we do take a beating off the big four year after year.

Still use to make me laugh back in the mad 90's. We got to Wembley 7 times and we sold out around 40,000 each time and take the Preston game only 400 sold Maybe it was all about the glory ...

ASH17LCFC Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 Will you be at preston then? I was going too, but they are only taking 1 coach and its all sold out. Gutted like Still back in my school days this is the sort of game i would never miss.
