Colchester Post Match 'Meh'

1-1, not great, but after the turmoil of the last few weeks, and the fact that we have an entire midfield injured, I'm not unhappy. I've always said I'd be happy with a top half finish this season, and I think we'll achieve that

They looked very tired 2nd half, let's hope they can recover for Tuesday

With that midfield out I'll take a point and the fact we restricted Colchester to very little. Apart from the period 15 minutes either side of half time we were probably slightly the better side.

Newton needs to get out.

At least Frank Burrows convinced Milan now against offering him the job full time. I think they passed it around nice at times and will take a point at Colchester but what a dull game.

Ithought Fryatt looked good in the hole using his ball holding skills usefully. He was unlucky not to score.

Can't blame it on a lack of attacking options though 3 strikers on the pitch and 3 on the bench!

Shame the midfield was so poor.

Total rubbish. After all the cr*p talked about the Chelsea game "they did us proud" etc...etc... we are back to reality in the fact that these players don't give a s*it and can't beat Colchester. Stearman is garbage and has been given his last chance surely.

On the plus side, you can tell Cort is getting fitter. He didn't do much whilst on but his touch looked sharp and was a handful for their centre-halves.

It's hard to blame Chambers and Kenton, I mean our midfield was barely worthy of the name but it's hardly their forte. Hopefelly Clemence and Weso back soon, we need them!

A lot better result than it might seem. With our entire midfield decimated and with serious fatigue setting in towards the end as predicted after the Chelsea match I thought everyone did well to battle out a draw - including the management.

There are good signs that Burrows and Taggart are trying to make us look like a team again - with a defence, midfield and attack - and they made the most of a difficult situation and there is no doubt to me that Carl Cort should have clinched it after that brilliant save from Fryatt.

He didn't gamble enough and he didn't show enough conviction to gobble up what was a genuine striker's chance.

No we wouldn't necessarily have deserved to win but it was probably the best chance, goals apart, except for the brave edge of the area save when Granville looked through.

I am still listening to the Match console, and Barber is chatting about this and that, unaware that he is being broadcast.

Is this also live on RL? Can anyone hear this? Will they start swearing and stuff?

He was offside anyway

The first half provided some promising signs in attacking areas. The link up between the top three, and the speed at which we broke was nice to see.

Slowly but surely i can see something happening. The defence is solid enough, and now the attacking play is starting to develop. With Weso and Clemence sill to return, we may have the makings of a decent side.

We didn't kill them off in the first half and it cost us but an away point is an away point!

I know it's stating the bleeding obvious but we need to start winning at home if we want to be serious top six contenders.

The Championship is mediocre at best this season and thankfully for us top six is still there for the taking-even Watford haven't impressed.

To those slagging off Burrows after today, you can't just wave a magic wand over the same set of players and transform them. What you can do is work on the weak areas, ie attacking, and improve them. Since taking over i believe those improvements in attacking areas have been evident.

I watched the game on Sky and whilst disappointed not to have won the game, I am pleased with the way the team set out to play and indeed for long periods played in comparison to the snooze-a-thon against S****horpe a month ago. Seemed like the players felt more relaxed and have been given more licence to express themselves than under Megson.

We could and should have been 2-0 up but for some last ditch defending to deny Collins John and Fryatt went close late on. DJ and John looked lively and showed pace and Matty Fryatt did well in a role he is not used to. I do exceot that Shaun Newton seemed to have developed cataracts when he came on and began passing it randomnly anywhere!!

I am pleased with the performance, it wasn't anywhere near our first choice XI given a fully fit squad.

The only thing that really disappointed me today was Frank Burrows ditching the cap, gutted!!!

Definitely. I cannot see why MM looked so miserable really. We were on a hiding to nothing today. Going into the game there was very little in our favour apart from having one of the tightest defences in the League.

You cannot take an entire midfield out of a team and not expect some problems but Burrows/Taggart conjured up a creditable performance in the circumstances.

The players looked keen and even the strikers seem to be getting some confidence back. Fryatt ran himself to a standstill in midfield - and he wasn't the only one - so there can't be too much wrong within the camp.
