Colchester Post Match 'Meh'

I think (from tv coverage) Fryatt and Sheehan really gave gutsy performances, especially Fryatt. Every cross bar one corner that I can remember from Sheehan looked dangerous and his effort at the end wasn't bad at all, definitely a MASSIVE improvement and hopefully it will keep him in the squad.

another 2 points gone . We surely must despatch shite like colchester and s****horpe without even thinking Stearman aside did they have one player better than anyone in the city team -I think not. I liked the formation and the substitutions looked appropriate so no fault to burrows just the usual city ennui

Saw the game on Danish telly. Feel slightly disappointed, as I believe we were the best team when we passed the ball. Stearman is a bigger pile of rubbish than I thought he was, his man constantly got through to provide dangerous crosses, and it was his man who scored the goal as well. N'Gotty was a rock, and the front two DJ and John looked lively. When Cort came on, and we started to hoof it to him we were awful. Still we played a lot better than I thought we would, but my do we miss Clemence...

The ups and downs of being a Leicester fan... FFS!

Burrows did OK with what was available - we never really looked like conceding from open play. Desperately need Weso back. For me there isn't a lot to choose from between our strikers now - the key could be finding the right pair. If we had a fully fit squad our weakest position is full/wingbacks (if we are going to persist playing chambers at cm)

It wasn't that bad you bunch of moaning bastards. I thought we did pretty well, just didn't take our chances. If we had gone 2-0 up in the first half it was game over. The problem was providing the ball for the front three, but as soon as they got it I thought they caused Colchester all kinds of problems.

Nevermind, thought Burrows and Tags have done a pretty decent job so far. Would sort of be a little sad to see them go. :(

Just got back.

Not a great match.

Banter on the left side was effing brilliant. Some great chants.

Nice meeting alot of you

Thank God for the terracing, or else this match would not of been very fun. Great banter from the terraces with the 'Col U' lot. We could of won that game easily with a bit more impetus going forward, all we needed to do was up the tempo. But instead the ball just seemed to float around in the midfield for the duration of the second half.

Fryatt had his best game for us today i think, DJ has improved too.

I think we should drop Stearman (too many long balls), play Chambers at RB and obviously Weso/Clem in midfield.

Tho Kenton was out of position i think he showed lots of guts and worked quite hard, deserves place in the squad now i think.

Jusy got back, probably not the greatest showing for you guys watching t'ele, not that I give a shit. A point away at Colchester is a good point, I don't think either side deserved to win it.

Great banter on the left hand side, dunno how we sounded on the tele, I'm going to watch a re-run. Great haging with the ft massiv' and standing freely.

Great benter too, the pikey and jippo chants were legendary :D

Jobbers drum vs their small tamborine - no contest lol:D:cool:

2nd half I was more interested in a rather nice looking girl at the front in the home terrace to the left. Ched knows :P

Must admit that 2nd half I had my eyes more on a reather nice girl in the home terrace to the left than the game. Ched knows who ;):P

Gerry Mourinhoooooo.

what was the song when we was comparing that man and him smelling like are Bernie? :D

Ive not long been back and yeah the game wasnt the best but still had a quality day. Nearly went arse over tit as soon as i stepped on the terracing (as i think ched saw lol) and didnt really stop laughing until I was back on the coach.

Some of the banter was sheer quality - loved the drum v tamborine and the "1-0 in your garden shed"

You could hear the leicester lot singing about Gypos all match. I heard :

The wheel on their house go round and round

GYPOS GYPOS GYPOS

WHERES YOUR CARAVAN

HARK NOW HEAR THE LEICESTER SING, THE CHELSEA RAN AWAY ...

MY GARDEN SHED ...

Gerry Mourinhoooooo !!!

Sounded loud all match, but the Leicester fans where singing all game it seemed. Colchester only got loud when they scored.

Disappointing match following Wednesday's epic. Our midfield was rubbish despite Kenton and Chambers' best efforts, although Fryatt did well. Attacking wise we look much better than under Megson, and Campbell and John looked lively with their pace.

Stearman was hopeless again and Sheehan disappointed me, particularly with his set piece delivery (which generally didn't beat the first man) and ineffective defending.

Cort and Newton were rubbish, though Newton more so. As soon as Cort came on we lost all pace up front and resorted to long ball rubbish, and Cort seems to have picked up De Vries's art of trying to win headers without jumping. Cort's immobility was also clear and hindered our attacking, and his miss was worse than school boy.

Good atmosphere but the game wasn't great.

Milan faces fresh puzzle

Colchester 1 Leicester 1

Dean Jones at Layer Road

Milan Mandaric may find his headache has eased this morning after Colchester United held his Leicester side at Layer Road. The chairman is searching for a new manager at the Walkers Stadium and plans to make an announcement in the coming days.

Leicester's season has been strange so far, to say the least, with managers Martin Allen and Gary Megson already come and gone.

The current temporary duo of Frank Burrows and Gerry Taggart have put themselves in the frame for the job after fine recent performances, particularly in midweek against Chelsea in the Carling Cup, when they were narrowly beaten. Mandaric did not expect the pair to become contenders but admits they have given him cause for thought.

However, after Colchester's Johnnie Jackson scored to cancel out Collins John's opener, he may now decide to go back to the list of candidates who have already applied for the job.

Leicester kept faith with the majority of the side from Stamford Bridge as they headed to Essex for this Championship encounter, though John and DJ Campbell were restored to the starting lineup. That decision did not take long to pay off, as Leicester opened the scoring after seven minutes. Campbell worked well down the right and picked out John, who stroked his shot beyond goalkeeper Dean Gerken.

However, it only seemed to give Colchester more incentive to attack. Forward Kevin Lisbie came close as he teased the Leicester defence on 32 minutes only to see his goalbound effort strike the face of defender Bruno N'Gotty. Within 60 seconds, defender Danny Granville came even closer to levelling the scores. He struck a fierce effort from 20 yards that Marton Fulop parried away at full stretch.

It seemed only a matter of time before Colchester would level, and so it proved. On 45 minutes, the impressive Mark Yeates delivered a precise cross above the Leicester defence that Jackson met to head home.

After half-time, it was Leicester who looked the better outfit, and had two good oportunities to score a second. Richard Stearman curled an effort just wide after 60 minutes and, soon afterwards, N'Gotty drilled a low shot the wrong side of the post from inside the penalty area.

But they could not make the breakthrough and Mandaric will now make a big decision on who he picks as the man to lead his side forward. He has got it wrong twice – Leicester followers will be hoping it is third time lucky.

Star man: DJ Campbell (Leicester)

Player ratings: Colchester: Gerken 6, Duguid 7, Connolly 6, Baldwin 6, Granville 6, Yeates 7, Watson 6 (McLeod 63min), Izzet 7, Jackson 7, Platt 6, Lisbie 7

Leicester:Fulop 6, Kisnorbo 6, N'Gotty 6, McAuley 6, Stearman 6, Kenton 5, Chambers 6, Sheehan 7, Fryatt 5, John 7 (Cort 63min), Campbell 7 (Newton 79min)

Colchester 1-1 Leicester

Johnnie Jackson equalised just before half-time to cancel out Collins John's opener as Colchester and Leicester played out a stalemate.

After only seven minutes, John nipped in front of two defenders to prod the ball past Dean Gerken after great work from DJ Campbell on the right flank.

But Jackson levelled the score on 45 minutes when he steered a header in from Mark Yeates' cross.

Both sides pushed for a winner but could not make the breakthrough.

we where better most of the game apart form the goal

I didn't see our goal, so waiting for Leicester to appear on the Championship. But we conceded a reeeeet sloppy goal :|

Good laugh, their fans were shit. Tambourine compared to Jobber's drum. And the gypsy lol. And ginger in the crowd.

Enjoyed the night out, but the match was remarkebly poor

I thought we were terrible. We all hope that Leicester gets promoted to the Premier league but how on a performance like that could we expect to get there let alone survive. If we want to get promoted we need to be beating sides like Colchester with ease.

The tactics were once again wrong. Playing 5-2-3 didnt work as all we seem to do was hoof long balls up the pitch with little success. There easily cancelled us out in midfield and without having the width of wingers to pull them accross the field they could easilt contain us. I do wonder why we didnt play King as this is his natural role and he seemed to do OK when asked to do it earlier in the season. But what about some of our forgotten few _ Hayes, Hellings, Kaebi, Ferreria ect are these players that poor that they cannot step up for a couple of games? It is a major concern that we seem to have one of the argest squads in the league but cant play the majority of the player we have got.

Bring on a new manager with new ideas as we badly need them.

I'm not dismissing your other points but I am dismissing this one.

I'm sick of reading about the f**king Premier League. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realise that we're not going up this season and I seriously doubt we should be considering promotion next season. It's a medium to long term goal. You don't flick a switch and automatically become promotion candidates.
