As always, ridiculous expectations are one of the things that cripple us. Until someone actually works that out, and the press all agree to stop backing us to win every major tournment, stop mentioning 196Fing6 every 2 minutes, stop butchering the players every time we lose, and get real, we aren't going anywhere. Plenty of the players have said in various interviews that they don't enjoy playing for England because of the pressure they're under.

Hopefully this disaster will lower expectations somewhat.

It's not so much the booing of Lampard or anything like that, it's more the total underestimation of teams like Croatia (yet more stunning evidence of which was present in the odds last night as idiots queued up to back an England team without four of its key players in key positions, in disgusting conditions) and the previous lack of respect for a good manager under whom we would have qualified from this group.

For the first time last night in the pub I actually considered the possabilty of moving out of this country permantley. There were plenty of people who were quite cleary deluded last night, predicting 3-0 wins, shouting shoot at the screen when Steven Gerrard was 45 yards out etc etc. Which is annoying but normal

But after the game I couldn't believe my ears in the blokes loo, some bright spark had decided the reason we lost to Croatia was because England is full of Pakis, Russians ( ) and Pols. ****.

I think Manwell's summed it up better than I did in my reply to Ric. The attitude to the game yesterday was a case in point, completely disregarding the fact Croatia are top of the group on merit with an excellent set of players who play as a team - England will see it through, they always do. This all stems from the media though. Any football fan worth their salt know's not to under-estimate teams like Croatia (who usually give us a right good battle anyway) and also they know when to appreciate a decent manager or not. It's the rent-a-fans that get behind England because all their friends and family do that get hoodwinked by the bumflufferies in the media etc. There are football fans that get affected by the media and get carried away, but that's always going to happen.

The real problems don't necessarily lie with either the media or the fans though because the mentality that we are better than we really are isn't a bad thing to have if we have the team to back it up on the field. To do that, we need a massive overhaul of the FA and how they conduct English football. It's not going to happen, so I suppose the media and fans changing their tune is the more realistic option, but it won't make much difference.

We'll always be seen as a fairly big force, why oh why the FA don't take this seriously and appoint a manager who will transform the National Team is beyond me. Something's fishy.

We have been shit because of a piss poor structure within the club in the same way that England are shit as a result of a messed up Football Association...and an overwhelming resistance to change based on vested interests.

95% of football fans are cretins, national or international, but that doesn't mean they are responsible for the qualification campaign debacle.

I don't agree, when Sven went you'd struggle to find a fan or a source in the media that had a good thing to say about him. You just need to look at that thread to see how many proper football fans thought he was a disaster. He wasn't a disaster, this is a disaster.

I do think City fans are partly to blame. It's the same situation with both teams. Poisonous atmosphere at home and a complacency when playing supposedly "lesser" teams that transfers itself to the players. There was a total complacency about that game last night that showed massive disrespect to Croatia in my opinion.

Personally, I'd like to see someone who has been IN the game in charge of the FA. I am not saying Bobby Charlton, but his ilk. Barwick is a tw@t. He always has been. And always will be. He fcuked up the Scolari issue big time. (Not that I can back that up with fact, but.. whatever!). Please. Let's get someone in who WANTS the job and not someone who Barwick thinks will / might do a good job.

We need to appoint a manager who can rally a team. Oh, hang on, let's find a group of players that can actually play as a team.

Now is the time to re-group. Get new players into the squad, utilise the U21's, get some 3 Lions passion back. We were shite defensively - not because the individuals were crap but that they hadn't played wnough together. And that's another discussion right there. Lampard / Gerrard in CM failed before and Donut played them again!! Crouch played his socks off last night but with no support initially, it was a thankless task.

Now I've depressed myself further, I am now off to cheer myself up finding unknown totty on FB!
