Simon Says:

"You saying you don't agree with the rest them?! :P"

And from me:

I don't necessarily disagree with any of the rest.

Indeed I tend to concur with most of what you say.

Everyone back on their benches now?! :D

If anything this game and result just confirmed that we do not have the players to create a promotion push. I hate it when barber or other so called experts say they can't understand it because we have a squad capable of it. I don't see that at all, all I see is a load of other championship squads much stronger ours, I would even take Southamptons crop of players over ours. I think we need to take the blinkers off and see our squad for what it really is, a very very average Championship side! Ollie is the right man for me but oh god does he need some time and changes! It's gunna be a long way yet, no quick fixes here!!!!

But the argument doesn't quite stand up. We have had several excellent results this season against supposedly good sides.

And because of that I honestly believe our squad could have reached January in a reasonable position to challenge for the play offs.

Instead we've been so wasteful really.

Players have been signed who shouldn't have been and this has limited our options especially during injury crises.

We haven't got enough players into the box, we haven't scored enough goals and we haven't had enough pace.

But all those things would have improved had our team been based around:

Fulop,

Chambers, N'Gotty, Kisnorbo, Sheehan,

Wesolwoski, King, Clemence/Hayes;

Gradel/Kaebi/Chambers; Hume/DeVries/John/Campbell (2)

Alternatives: Henderson, Stearman, Mattock, McAuley, Kenton, Kishishev, Fryatt, Hammond, Dodds.

That's 25 players. There should have been room for another two or three but even with those named I am quite sure we could have finished in the top 10.

We've never had the wingers to play 4-4-2 nor have our strikers been strong enough to operate as a pair.

So 4-3-3 would have countered both problems and we would have had 6.5 potential scorers per game while losing nothing defensively and having pace in the side via Chambers, Hume, Campbell and latterly Hayes/Hammond (if fit).

That team would also have had two or three more passers in the side than we've generally had, Sheehan would have had more targets and there woulc have been more support from midfield and full-back.

That's my theory. Perhaps it's just blind faith.

Didn't realise Hayes got the assist for Kingy's goal.

Penalty might have been harsh especially in the circumstances whereby southampton weren't even close to getting the ball but it did look fractionally nside the area from the film.

The Assist? Didn't King spank it from 30 odd yards?

Hayes laid it back.

He can lay a ball back, well done John Hayes

Are you even complaining about the official criteria for an assist? :D

There might have been nothing special about the pass but if he hadn't made it we wouldn't have scored. And if he'd passed it those 12 yards like Kisnorbo was doing, or not doing, on occasions Saturday it wouldn't have got to King either.

It could have been worse!!

You could have just had the two days I've had!!!

The worst thing has been having to admit that the result was right!!
