davieG Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 As we have 8 games to play in December with a lot of drunken nights involved I thought I'd do a MOM for each game so that when it comes to Player of the Month for December you can refresh your memories. Unfortunately yesterday's poor performance will have you thinking no one deserves it but try and pick one anyway, the best of the worst if you like - Thanks It will be closed prior to the Burnley game.
Joe. Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 I don't even think I can bring myself to name one good player from yesterday's game. I could say King, but apart from his goal he did nothing at all.
danny. Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 hayes had a good game, lots of positive runs. One in the first half he skinned their right back and put in a perfect cross that would have been a goal had cort have done anything but stand there like a statue.

Hayes did knock some very good balls over. But for my liking he was out of position way to much. That left us with no width on the left meaning Sheehan had to take his place then we got exposed when Soton attacked down the left 'cos Sheehan was out of position as well. I see a future for him here though, suppose he needs a couple of games though.
Nath Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 Wheres Filbert? He was 'Man Of The Match' for his half time heroics.
WetFlannel Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 i thought hayes done allright, better than most... good to see him in the side
Thracian Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 I would like to give it jointly to Sheehan and King. King for the terrific first goal of his Leicester City and because he kept trying to play proper football while all around him were hoisting the ball in the air and wasting possession. Sheehan because, yet again, he was the one source of a genuine goal threat and because he too constantly tried to be constructive and make things happen. His efforts didn't always work but he didn't stop trying and I thought he provided at least enough opportunities for us to have won the game. Forced to choose I'd say Sheehan overall.
The Stig Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 Sheean and Hayes as they were the only people that provided just a tiny hint of quality. They went forward well and looked reasonably threatning. I think Hayes with more games will imporve and Sheean will certianly get better with age. The two best of a bad bunch, but to be honest they both had thier mistakes.

Sorry buddy, I thought he was entirely ineffectual, but then I guess he was being asked to do a job which doesn't appear to be his actual natural game. It was blatantly obvious that we missed Wesolowski, and on the evidence of this I'd drop Clem and play Weso and King. Thought Sheehan was one of our better players again (although some of his dead balls were disappointing), but I thought Hayes was far and away our best player yesterday. He gets knocked off the ball a little easily, but he's the first winger we've had in a long time who you get excited to see with the ball at their feet.
Leicester's 12th Man Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 Sheehan, some excellent crosses and it's a shame they weren't finished. Proved his worth to the side with his trademark left foot. Shots from freekicks weren't up to much but you can't score 100% of the time. Did well enough.
Calum McDermott Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 HAYES!!! he looked dangerous at times... but came inside a little too much in my opinion! i think holloway should use the xmas period to play everyone in the squad.

Can't agree with that. Why use arguably the most important bit of the season to use squad players? Holloway needs to find his best eleven before Christmas so he knows what areas he needs to strengthen. Using every player in the squad will get us nowhere, we need a consistent team.
Fox You Forest Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 Im not sure i can bring myself to vote, it was just the same old stuff we were seeing before ollie came But i think im going for sheehan for all the reasons already listed on this thread, I think we should have his name printed on the player of the season trophy now. ( It took so me much self restraint not to mention carl cort in this post)

In the second half he made a great run down the right (completely out of position). Cristiano Ronaldo also plays out of position a lot of the time, but it isn't a problem. We are so lacking in flair I don't see why when the odd player that does show some promise going forward but out of position (Hayes, Hume - when he's playing well) the rest of the team can't cover defensively and help build the move. All entitled to our own opinions, although it seems I'm not the only one that thought hayes had a good game.

One thing you get with Hayes is a bit of the "attitude" I mentioned in another thread. I've watched him several times this season, mostly in the reserves, and even when he's not fully fit he puts himself about and tries to make something happen. Some players tick along but nothing ever happens from what they do. Hayes makes mistakes and looks a bit nieve at times. His style makes it inevitable that he'll get injured. But even on generally ordinary days he quite often chips in with a goal or an assist, just as on Saturday. In fact I think that's the third or fourth game running he's had one goal/assist or more. Whether he can stay fit enough for long enough to have a real impact remains to be seen but I don't think anyone will accuse him of not giving his all.
Messi Posted 3 December 2007 Posted 3 December 2007 Hayes For Me, I Thought He Was Fantastic. All Over The Field And Putting Some Great Balls Across Which Should Have Been Finished. Looks Promising
danny. Posted 3 December 2007 Posted 3 December 2007 why the hell have 5 people voted for cort????? he did nothing all game, fair enough he was injured but how could he possibly be MOM??

He does seem to put himself about quite a lot. Against Saints he was often all over the place, and one incident that sticks to mind was the great run he had down the right (as dannyuk mentioned) but that is no problem with me as long as he is doing something good. And as he's shown he sure as hell knows how to cross a ball, even with his right foot, which is a complete surprise to me. A fully fit Hayes can turn into some player. Hopefully he'll stay fit cos I like the boy. And I'm glad he's winning this poll.
