Bryn Posted 13 December 2007 Posted 13 December 2007 Teams have done their homework on us in recent games clearly, our goalscoring threat from set plays seems much reduced, even when Sheehan plays. Just goes to show even more that we will need a creative midfielder in January, cause I can't see where the goals are coming from.
Dames Posted 13 December 2007 Posted 13 December 2007 You mentioned HIS Name. Watch this thread now decend into a farce.
Tommy G Posted 13 December 2007 Posted 13 December 2007 You mentioned HIS Name.Watch this thread now decend into a farce. YES...as always
Sods Posted 13 December 2007 Posted 13 December 2007 You mentioned HIS Name.Watch this thread now decend into a farce. Well get a load of this. Dodds, Hammond, King, Sheehan, Fryatt, Kaebi, Chambers. Thoughts on players anyone?
Fez of Mahrez Posted 13 December 2007 Posted 13 December 2007 Remember when Levi was shit last season and Thracian blamed it on teams marking him. That was priceless. Look forward to the excuse for this one.

And when Levi wouldn't chase through balls he said he didn't have too and if it was him he would have politely invited them to do it themselves BUT isn't Thracian the campaigner for free flowing touch and go football which would remarkably involve actually running onto through balls or slightly over hit passes.
Wils Posted 13 December 2007 Posted 13 December 2007 Weve been useless at set peices for the last 3 seasons.
RowlattsFox Posted 13 December 2007 Posted 13 December 2007 Weve been useless at set peices for the last 3 seasons. Yet for the last 3 seasons, most of our goals have came from set pieces.
Scow Posted 13 December 2007 Posted 13 December 2007 Yet for the last 3 seasons, most of our goals have came from set pieces. Only because we don't score many from open play and therefore accentuates the amount we score from set pieces.
WetFlannel Posted 13 December 2007 Posted 13 December 2007 Sheehans delivery and the presence of Kisnorbo and Mcauley, were not too bad... under Megson we were allright at set pieces
Bert Posted 14 December 2007 Posted 14 December 2007 Sheehan's deliveries haven't been so great (Or up to his usual standard) in the past few games. But that's just me.
boneman Posted 14 December 2007 Posted 14 December 2007 Sheehans delivery and the presence of Kisnorbo and Mcauley, were not too bad... under Megson we were allright at set pieces Sheehan proved his worth against Cardiff, I still don't know how those in swinging corners did not register at least one score...fcuking Schmeichel Then again of late he hasn't had the delivery to warrant an assist. At least Paddy is playing this week, so I hope Sheeh's proves me wrong by setting up a Kisnorbo headed goal!
Thracian Posted 14 December 2007 Posted 14 December 2007 Teams have done their homework on us in recent games clearly, our goalscoring threat from set plays seems much reduced, even when Sheehan plays. Just goes to show even more that we will need a creative midfielder in January, cause I can't see where the goals are coming from. You are totally right and it's been noticeable. And the reason teams are successfully in combating the Sheehan free kicks is because we are not getting enough people forward into the attacking third and therefore giving ourselves a chance of winning dangerous free-kicks and corners. I have mentioned this lots of times last season and this. Other teams get six and seven players in and around the box but we're lucky to get one or two sometimes. It is embarrassing. I've mentioned King being played in too defensive a role. But it goes deeper than this. Clemence is contributing nothing of any consequence. People like James Chambers, Kenton adn Maybury aren't known as attack-minded. We've had nothing from right midfield in a seriously attacking sense and our main strike force has been decimated. We've used two defensive players on the left instead of Sheehan as wing-back plus a genuine left-sided attacker like Hayes. Put all these together things together and you get an idea of the problem. Not quite the whole story but a good part.
Thracian Posted 14 December 2007 Posted 14 December 2007 Sheehan's deliveries haven't been so great (Or up to his usual standard) in the past few games. But that's just me. I don't think we've had so many free-kicks/corners in recent matches. It might be illusion but it seems noticeable to me that teams are being extra careful not to give unnecessary free kicks away. Because this has happened, and because what free kicks there have been have been fairly ordinary by Sheehan's standards, Ollie has not seen the best effect of them, has lost faith and taken the guy off. Because if you are not going to win free-kicks/corners then Sheehan is more a left wing-back than ever he is a winger yet the club seem to want to use Mattock as basically a straight-forward left-back which I don't really understand based on anything that has happened so far and our desperate need for goals and victories. As mentioned elsewhere we need to get more people forward, win more free kicks and get the most out of him like Megson did.

Fat Ron Posted 14 December 2007 Posted 14 December 2007 James Chambers is one of the most attacking right backs in this division. Yes but you dont spell his name like Alan Sheehan
Dames Posted 14 December 2007 Posted 14 December 2007 James Chambers is one of the most attacking right backs in this division. But he didn't however score and make goals for our reserves or youth teams.
Thracian Posted 14 December 2007 Posted 14 December 2007 James Chambers is one of the most attacking right backs in this division. I was actually considering James Chambers in his midfield role. Even there he did better than I expected but he didn't create things and he didn't attack the box. As a right-back I agree that he gets forward quickly and keenly but there's been no signs, in what little I've seen of him there, that he delivers a good final pass or ever gets far enough forward to attack the penalty area and surroundings. Doubtless we'll see in time.
WetFlannel Posted 14 December 2007 Posted 14 December 2007 Cort scored from one of our set pieces, we must be good at them
