Manwell Pablo Posted 14 December 2007 Posted 14 December 2007 If we start to play entertaining football and get to at least a semi final in his first tournement (should we qualify) I wont care what nationality he is.His credentials are there for all to see, lets just see him back it up with results. I don't see that happening Cappelo is a legend, a great manager, and just what we need. The only problem will be in him transferring his club management skills over to international football, the language, culture etc etc. But I don't see any of that being much of a problem. I'm not going to say he'll win us the World Cup or anything like that, I'd prefere to see how we play under him before making bold statements such as that, but he'll be better than McClaren (not that he good be much worse) If I'm wrong though I will at least hold my hands up and say so unlike a certain mardy arsed 80's pop quiz lover.
purpleronnie Posted 14 December 2007 Posted 14 December 2007 What do people see as successful? World Cup Qualifying? Quarters? Semis? Final? Winners? Its simply not down to the manager we have to change our entire approach to the game before we achieve anything.
Manwell Pablo Posted 14 December 2007 Posted 14 December 2007 Just thought I'd dig this back up. Capello has never been afraid to upset football’s biggest stars in order to get his team to perform. He publicly feuded with Italian stars Alessandro Del Piero, Francesco Totti and Antonio Cassano, prematurely ended David Beckham’s Real Madrid career (before reversing his decision) and attempted to motivate Brazilian striker Ronaldo with the immortal question “Aren’t you ashamed to be so fat?†Of the many disputes he has had with his players, Capello’s most heated exchange was with Paolo Di Canio after an AC Milan friendly in China in 1996. When Di Canio asked why his manager was so obsessed with the result of a seemingly meaningless friendly, Capello is said to have simply responded “You are an ugly c**t and your face looks like a penisâ€. The pair then came to blows. Di Canio never played for Milan again. lol

If he is as passionate as it seemd and that he will drop crap players (Phil Neville) then Im all for it!!!

He's probably reduce Fat Frank and the 'Super Hard' John 'JT' Terry to tears within minutes upon his arrival. I hope anyway.
lookwhaticando Posted 14 December 2007 Posted 14 December 2007 What annoys me is what the FA seem to be doing! The same thing our board did with Levein!Trying to force someone else onto his team, a team that has been successful! You either want him, or you don't! Don't try and pander to the Anti-foreign brigade. Have courage in your convictions!! BartonFox lives on! And it's allegedly Capello's decision to get some English blood on board... let's wait and see until we start searching for the truth... which is out there, somewhere.
Durnerz Posted 14 December 2007 Posted 14 December 2007 Hes the disciplinarian we've been after with brains behind it. Welcome Fabio!

Ronaldo was the finest player of his generation and potentially still is, yet you destory his confidence like that whilst he is being hammered in the press for that very reason... hes a c**t. Ronaldo from what i hear is a gentleman and a very nice guy, yet you demoralise him and humiliate him in front of his team mates, its a joke. 'Attempt to Motivate' i.e 'fook off out of my club'... I cant wait to see how he will handle Lampard. Ronaldo was forced out of Madrid and im glad to see him doing well in Milan when hes not injured (as you can tell my username was 9Ronaldo). I guess Di Canio gave him that stupid fcuking nose or did it naturally grow like that?

He was well over weight towards the end of his time at Real, just because he's absloutley fantastic in near enough every techincal department, doesn't mean he can let his fitness go completley.

So was that how he had to carry his point across? Humiliate him in front of his team mates... from what ive heard ronaldos a smashing lad and didnt deserve to be treated the way he did. After all he has been through, the injuries and criticism, dont you think it would be better to support him rather than add to the number of knives being sharpened for him in the press?

Not going to be a long post as my browser keeps crashing but, I'm guessing Capello was taking one of the only remaining approaches, seeing as very manager before him has tried to get him to lose weight and failed. Ronaldo is a fat ****er who could of been one of the greatest players ever to play had he looked after himself better. Sorry for being blunt and short but as I say, browser is playing up. Also do you know it was said infront of his team mates? EDIT: Who told you that? Rob Kelly

At least Capello is honest and says what he thinks. Ronaldo clearly is'nt the nice guy you make him out to be when hes willing to be paid 100k a week for sitting on his fat arse all day, is he? You would'nt think that if he was doing that here, would you?

WetFlannel Posted 15 December 2007 Posted 15 December 2007 very much so, however he was fadeing and over weight when Cappelo arrived though theres no denying that. i know but it still doesnt justify how he treated him btw: ive heard that allegedly Lampard weighed more than him... is this actually true? Ronaldo is 6ft aswell so hes in the same height region
The Reverend Posted 15 December 2007 Posted 15 December 2007 i certainly would with his record 2002 - 2007 played 127 goals (83) That is remarkable You think he achieved that by 'sitting on his fat arse'... Well its clear that towards the end of his Madrid career, he was miles overweight, and was constantly getting injured. Even with his 125 appearances in 5 years, thats 25 games a season, nothing when you factor in the 38 league games, cup games and champions league games. Dont get me wrong, Ronaldo was a good player, but to say calling Ronaldo fat (when he quite clearly was/is) is disrespectful to him, is stupid. No player is that big (excuse the pun). I'd say its quite disrespectful to the Madrid fans to get yourself in that state, no matter how good you are.
Thracian Posted 15 December 2007 Posted 15 December 2007 If ever an appoiontment was a condemnation of the English coaching system this is it. Good luck to the guy but to me the England team should be run by an Englishman. Will he be successful? No.

No. its all according how one defines successful , there are some people still describing SGE as a successful manager for getting England into the quarter finals
davieG Posted 15 December 2007 Posted 15 December 2007 its all according how one defines successful , there are some people still describing SGE as a successful manager for getting England into the quarter finals The definition of his success surely has to relate to the £10mill (conservative estimate) he and his team are being paid, which is well in excess of what SGE & Co were paid so the least we should expect is final appearance if not wins, after all he is the most expesive football manager in the World. A more interesting question might be what is the price for failure, what if he does a McLaren and fails to qualify for the World Cup Finals, 4.5 years x £10 plus the cost of replacements. Having said that I genuinely believe he will achieve at least as much as SGE.
DB11 Posted 15 December 2007 Posted 15 December 2007 Well I'd have preferred Mourinho but I hope he's successful
Father Ted Posted 15 December 2007 Posted 15 December 2007 I think he will be the most succesful manager England have ever had after Sir Alf Ramsey.
davieG Posted 15 December 2007 Posted 15 December 2007 I think he will be the most succesful manager England have ever had after Sir Alf Ramsey. So he's going to win the World Cup then?
MPH Posted 15 December 2007 Posted 15 December 2007 yes ( although notice he didnt say as succesful AS sir Alf but the most succesful after Sir Alf. so he could mean getting to the final. )
Mort Posted 16 December 2007 Posted 16 December 2007 yes( although notice he didnt say as succesful AS sir Alf but the most succesful after Sir Alf. so he could mean getting to the final. ) Or getting to the Semi... losing, but then going on to win the third place play off!
