Fez of Mahrez Posted 17 December 2007 Posted 17 December 2007 ... on comparing football with a 9 to 5 job. I'm sick of people equating booing and post-match comments to criticism in the workplace. It's just not the same and it's a pointless comparison. Can we ban the words "Imagine how you would feel if your boss..." in the future please?

Imagine how your mum would feel if after she slaved over the oven for 90 minutes, you booed, jeered and called her a cnut when she presented you with a poor roast and spotted dick.

Babylon Posted 17 December 2007 Posted 17 December 2007 what if you aint got a mum? Then you will be known from here on forth as Oliver.

I've just texted her to ask her and she said she doesn't usually mind but yesterday was her birthday and she thought I might not react so angrily for once.

What???? That's an even worse comparison. This forum has gone bonkers

If you don't like it, ban it. It might be easier to agree with you if you explained the reasons why you say the comparison is pointless. I don't see so much difference between the man-management skills required of a football manager than a manager in any other business. "Treat people as you'd expect to be treated yourself," is a fair starting basis. And one that works handsomely as far as my oldest son's 9-5 business is concerned. I don't see what possible benefit a manager can gain from undermining his players or his staff's confidence in public but I stand to be persuaded otherwise.

Obviously the banning thing is meant light-heartedly. I just don't see the need for a comparison to be made. Everyone should know how football works by now and that it isn't a "normal" job, so why try and compare the two?

Master Fox Posted 17 December 2007 Posted 17 December 2007 could be worse! could have gone to specsavers! Sorry, But this is now the worst the thread I've ever witnessed unfold. I disassociate myself from everything in this thread.
Bryn Posted 17 December 2007 Posted 17 December 2007 If the type of post you mean is like mine here, then I never meant 9-5 jobs as such. I meant more like if you were say, a chef who was slaving away in the kitchen all day working really hard with the best you had, and the manager of the restaurant was going around slagging off your cooking.

Fez of Mahrez Posted 17 December 2007 Author Posted 17 December 2007 Sorry Fez. I was only trying to get the thing going a bit. Sometimes even the most refined amongst us crack and create the most inane threads you could imagine.
The People's Hero Posted 17 December 2007 Posted 17 December 2007 I've just texted her to ask her and she said she doesn't usually mind but yesterday was her birthday and she thought I might not react so angrily for once. That is first rate. A rare beacon of light in a real mire round here recently. Thankyou.

stevec Posted 17 December 2007 Posted 17 December 2007 Whilst we are calling for bans, can we ban childish Leicester fans from this blatently obvious Plymouth FC forum?
ronnup Posted 17 December 2007 Posted 17 December 2007 Imagine your misses had spent all night trying to grout the tiles, and then when she actually finished Kaebi had thrown his muck all over them and she had to start again, and then just as she gets started for the second run Carl Cort comes in and rifles the arse off of her with Sappleton. That's how i see our season panning out.
Zingari Posted 17 December 2007 Posted 17 December 2007 could we employ a 9-2-5 formation; i think we'd get results
