Joe. Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 Hume and Hayes should be playing on the wings. I don't see the problem with this. I wouldn't bank on it. I get the impression Holloway's not a great fan of Hayes, referring to him in the Ipswch post match interview as the "MK Dons substitute".

I'd be wary of relying on Hayes at left-mid for an extended period and so is Holloway. I still think we'll sign at least one, if not two wingers. I also hope Gradel gets a chance when he gets back from Bournemouth... I like Hayes a lot myself. Sticks a good cross in and can play a bit. If not him, I like Mattock there. He looks good freed of defensive responsibility. Right wing we can play Hume or Gradel assuming we get him back. Of course another couple of players in those positions would be nice, but getting crosses into the box isn't rocket science. Oh and I doubt the Hume rumours are true, we'd have heard more of it by now.

I like Hayes too, the few crosses I've seen him put in have been very very good. I'd just like to see him go and try and beat his man a bit more. I'd just not want to be relying on him as he does appear a bit injury prone as well. According to Bournemouth's website Gradel is coming back, I think it's about time he got his chance...

The Foxes are keen to make a charge for the play-off places in the second half of the season and chairman Milan Mandaric is ready to back boss Ian Holloway with the money to fund it. Holloway has now made his first major moves by agreeing deals for the two strikers. Hope "We need power up front and Steve Howard is the top drawer on this one. I'm hopeful we can conclude something," Mandaric told Radio Leicester. "We are determined to bring in additional power on the scoring goals side. "Barry [Hayles] would be one of those people who would help them." Holloway worked with Hayles at Plymouth and he tired to sign him along with David Norris earlier this month. Likewise, Derby have accepted a £1.5million offer for Steve Howard - who is deemed surplus to requirements by Rams boss Paul Jewell. Howard has scored just one Premier League goal this season following Derby's promotion to the top-flight and missed from the penalty spot in the 2-1 defeat by Blackburn on Sunday.

Hayes has a brilliant impact when coming on in the last 20 minutes as a substitute attacking tired defences and whipping in good crosses and if he meets the head of Howard every time we will get goals, goals and more goals.

To be honest, we didn't "feed" him from the flanks last season at all. It was more a big hoof down the middle for him to hold up and get midfield players in to support him. We should have "fed" him from the flanks but that would appear "attractive football" something that Billy Davies knew little about. Apparently you've signed him on an Emergency Loan so that he's eligable to play tomorrow.
