I am in London so have no idea if that's true, but hope so - it should signal the end for Cort and De Vries. Finally a sign of relief from the transfer front!!! Cort and DeVries - good luck to the both of you someplace else. You never really made it here, even when given a chance.

But, I do appreciate what he can bring to the team, in terms of strength, and unsettling the defenders. So all in all, not a bad signing I guess. Just don't let him take penalties

And, in another surprise move, City manager Ian Holloway is bringing in his former Plymouth striker Barry Hayles for an undisclosed fee. This double swoop is in addition to the continuing negotiations with Sunderland for goalkeeper Marton Fulop and midfielder Graham Kavanagh as Holloway bids to strengthen the quality of his squad. Howard is the major deal, thought to be for a fee of around £1.5m. The 31-year-old attacker's 19 goals last season were at the heart of Derby's promotion. But the Rams have not come to terms with the Premier League. They are bottom of the table after yesterday's defeat against Blackburn in which Howard played, and had a penalty saved, and Holloway thinks Howard will respond to the challenge at City. Howard is understood to have agreed terms for a three-and-a-half year contract and is seen as the answer to City's goal-scoring problems, having succeeded at this level last season. He began his career with Tow Law Town and had spells with Hartlepool, Northampton and Luton before joining Derby for £1m in the summer of 2006. Hayles signed for Holloway's Bristol Rovers in 1997 from Stevenage as his first professional club. The 35-year-old moved on to Fulham, Sheffield United, and Millwall before his switch to Plymouth 18 months ago. Both Howard and Hayles could be available for tomorrow's game at QPR if everything is agreed because they could technically be on short-term loans. City are also actively pursuing the Fulop and Kavanagh deals although the Kavanagh one appears to have the better chance of success. I understand terms for the Irish midfielder are all but agreed. But the Fulop situation is that City's initial £1m bid does not meet Sunderland's valuation. In the meantime, Paul Henderson will be back in goal for the game at Loftus Road tomorrow. But, if the moves for the two strikers go through, most City eyes will be on the other end of the pitch.

HOW MANY YEARS ARE WE TALKING ABOUT THEN....THE GUY CARN'T SCORE ENOUGH GOALS!!!.. But he's gonna get ((Yet another chance)) by way of getting on the end of Howards flick on headers, and if he still carn't score he's finished at LCFC.

Sort of share you concern there but it's good business for a bloke who scored 19 last season compared to the inevitable 6 figure sum we are paying for Hayles who has scored 2 in 22 according to Stevo.

Or Howard and Fryatt- Picking up Howard's knock-downs would be either Campbell or Fryatt's dream. Or even the three of them up front in a 4-3-3 (granted, I know Holloway likes his wingers). I'm not too worried by the length of contract if MM wants to pay it- if he does the job for this season and next I'll be fairly happy.

joely22 Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 Mandaric has just been on Radio Derby aswell saying that it should be completed today. Probably the same interview as that on Radio Leicester. Am happy with the fee. We've made almost £500k / £900k in a season and half, not bad for a player who's almost 32. Really good signing for you lot. Would have liked to have kept him for next season in the Championship but I suppose Jewell has a different style of play compared to Davies hoof ball tactics. Quality addition, especially at this level. Works hard for the team, real grafter and will get goals. Might take him a while to score, he seemed to take an age to start scoring for us last season but once he did his goals were key to us getting promoted.

As for wingers, you can have Teale / Lewis / Fagan.
