As far as I can see, we've been linked with five domestic players so far and only one of them would actually go towards solving our main problem.

Players like Howard and Roman Bednar can be effective in this league but only with the wingers and attacking midfielders to get up and support them like Derby did last year and WBA do this year.

Even Geoff Horsfield could do a job up front for WBA this season.

Brian Deane, Muzzy Izzet - same principle.

Howard is a goalscorer though and would add considerably to our threat at set-pieces.

That's exactly the style of football that Holloway craves though. Good wingers and energetic midfielders that get in to the box, we've got to be a little dubious though as we've not seen that down here for fookin years!!!

Well exactly. I suppose part of the problem is the front men. The only one that has ever given a centre-back a really hard time this season is on loan at Leeds.

derby tribute to Steve Howard...

guy knows where the back of the net is, fo sure.

uses his head well too.....

If we do get him, then this signing alone will justify Holloways decision to leave Plymouth as i doubt they could of ever afforded his fee or his wages..

Who will one day make you all eat your words.

Not with us he won't..

His scoring record in league games for us is worse than Akinbiyi's, and in a lower league!

Here or away from here Fryatt will bang in goals at this level at least......eventully.

Not if Sheehan's already been substituted.:D

I'll ignore the reference to Horsfield doing something useful. My imagination has limits.

Depends how many you're talking about but it would seem you've got far more faith in him than I have.

Vast improvement on Carl Cort I have to say if we were to sign him in January.

Radio Five Live say that the rumour in the press room at the Derby Vs Blackburn match is that Howard is on his way to us in January...

Ollie has gone to great lengths to reiterate he will look all over the world for quality players to improve this team.... hmm... do you think he means just the tralists we have?

1438: Rumours in the press box suggest that this is Steve Howard's last game for Derby. He is off to Leicester City apparently. That penalty miss is not a fitting way to say goodbye, seeing as his goals got the Rams up last year.

from the beeb go on the match report thingy

I hope these 'rumours' have substance.

I find it strange that you'd be happy with signing Howard, who's 31 and yet question the 'possible' signing of Sav (33) and Roberts (29) as not being long term investments! :dunno:

Oh right for some reason I though Roberts was 32 :S:doh:

My mistake, still can't imagine MM parting with £4.4m though.

I can... :P

... at a push, but only on our entire compliment of January signings, not just on two players!!!!

I'd be happy with the signing of either player- Roberts is a little more realistic IMO but 4.4 mil is a helluva lot of money to be parting with in transfer fees plus the inevitable big wages which the two of them would attract.

Joel.

But trust that kid.

Seems as if hes a gonner. Not sure of the price but from a few snippets I've hear it will be around the £1million - £1.5million range.

Is a shame to see him go. Not Premiership class but neither are the other 22 or so that we have.

Would be a really good signing for you boys. Will get you some goals, no doubt about it.

Will update if I hear anything else.

Just been confirmed by Mandaric on Radio Leicester according to a thread on the general LCFC forum. I am in London so have no idea if that's true, but hope so - it should signal the end for Cort and De Vries.

Cort was always going - and i like De Vries :dunno:
