Fez of Mahrez Posted 19 December 2007 Posted 19 December 2007 ahahahahahahaha. Although that picture of you on Soccer AM that got added on Facebook in the last day or two is pretty funny too.
Simi Posted 19 December 2007 Posted 19 December 2007 Joels net is playing up, he asked me to post the following. Alright boys and girls?Basically, from what I've been told, it's very likely that Howard and Barnes will be sold in January. Two clubs are in for Stevie, thought to be Wolves and yourselves. At least, that was what was in the Derby Evening Telegraph today. Will be a quality signing for you if you get him. You might not like him but from the game I saw you play this season (Shef. Utd) you definatly needed a striker like Stevie up there, just to hold the ball up. He's especially good away from home when you need him to do that aswell. Cheers, Joel

Lillehamring Posted 19 December 2007 Posted 19 December 2007 if he's good in th air, it's summat we don't have so, good to have on board if just for an alternate option...
teblin Posted 20 December 2007 Posted 20 December 2007 Leicester boss Ian Holloway has made Derby striker Steve Howard and Peterborough forward Aaron McLean his top transfer targets. (Mirror)
Master Fox Posted 20 December 2007 Posted 20 December 2007 Leicester boss Ian Holloway has made Derby striker Steve Howard and Peterborough forward Aaron McLean his top transfer targets. (Mirror) Well let's hope so, cos if we're stuck with Hume & Fryatt up front we might as well start planning for league 1 now!
The People's Hero Posted 20 December 2007 Posted 20 December 2007 My boss says donates whenever he means to say denotes (and when he's trying to say denotes, he usually means connotes). This happens a lot.
joely22 Posted 20 December 2007 Posted 20 December 2007 Alright guys? Basically from what I've heard is that Howard is likely to go to either you or Wolves in January. The lad who told me seems pretty certain that he will be leaving and there have been rumours about it since the transfer window in the summer. Personally, I'd like to keep him based on the fact that we'll be playing in the CCC next season. He scored 20 goals there last season but it wasn't just his goals that he was good for, was that he could hold the ball up, flick the ball on and defend extremly well from set pieces. In that division, he is a quality player. The Premiership, a step too far for him and the other 20 players in our squad. Merry Christmas

You paid about £1.1 million for him didn't you? He's in to his 30's now, perhaps £750,000?

Apparently we paid only £600k for him. Eventhough, when the transfer went through, people were saying it was £1million. More than likely £600k going up to £1million depending on goals / appearences / promotion or whatever so we probably have paid that for him now. Well there's rumours of him going for £1.5million, personally, I can't see that. Will more than likely be around the £1million mark. Although, I don't see the point in selling him to be honest. For 6 months worth of him being sh*t and then to have a decent Championship striker for next season, might aswell hold on to him.
Father Ted Posted 20 December 2007 Posted 20 December 2007 I really am hoping that he does sign as he will score goals at this level. In our squad the ONLY sort of goalscorers are Hume and Dj. Dj is injured for 3 months and Hume isn't even playing up front.
Fox in a Box Posted 20 December 2007 Author Posted 20 December 2007 This would be the best signing in the last 4 years if we get him, a PROPER striker.... and MANNY he is better than Carl Cort ... Just goes to prove that you know nothing about football.
Manwell Pablo Posted 20 December 2007 Posted 20 December 2007 He isn't. Watched him for years at Luton and hes a journeyman carthorse. As Manwell has pointed out, ping the ball at his neck one every 5 minutes and he'll look shit, but then again so will anyone. The important point is if, heaven forbid, we actually start to play some football hes got less ability that our current mob upfront. Not just me FIAB. The words of probabley the only person on here who has actually seen him play often (Besides Joely)

the_don Posted 20 December 2007 Posted 20 December 2007 I saw him play a lot when he was at Northampton. I thought he was competent but limited. Our "Fans" hated him though because he looked worse than he actually was. But then, Northampton fans are pretty much uniformly clueless. If you sign him he would prove to be no better than what you have up front, which from seeing 4 or 5 games this season, is basically not much.

Ahahah more backing for me! I am invincible (not Danny) Hope your saving you pennies up by the way, looks like you and Mr Bevan are going to be lineing my pockets come May.

Ric Flair Posted 20 December 2007 Posted 20 December 2007 Can anyone explain his goal scoring record at this level then? I'm struggling to believe that he's guff with a record like his for Luton and The Shaggers. Service or no service, you still need to have a bit about you. Otherwise Roman Abramovic would be playing up front for Chelsea if talent was irrelevant.

I didn't say he was guff I said he was no better than Carl Cort, if he's Guff please explain his scoring record at Wolves.

Manwell Pablo Posted 20 December 2007 Posted 20 December 2007 Was it with you and your love of crap strikers? I don't love Carl Cort at all, I don't want him in our line up and I didn't want us to sign him. I just said Steve Howard is no better. I should be asking you lot that question, two words, DJ Campbell. Actually four words, Izale McLeod!
Ric Flair Posted 20 December 2007 Posted 20 December 2007 He's big and he can head a ball? I didn't say he was guff I said he was no better than Carl Cort, if he's Guff please explain his scoring record at Wolves. Carl Cort will never be the player he was because of injuries. Had he not suffered his injury problems then we'd never be comparing Steve Howard and Carl Cort in a million years. But right now, there's one whose scored about 40 goals in the past couple of seasons at this level and another whose got about 10. Howard's nowt special, but he's a traditional centre forward, something we were hoping to have in Carl Cort. But he's been a massive let down, I have grave doubts he'll improve even with some creative players around him. I don't think he fancies it here. Where as Howard, is a true fighter and we could do with someone with guile up front.
