Yeah but where's Hayles going to fit in? Surely you can't play Hayles and Howard together.

As for wingers, you can have Teale / Lewis / Fagan.

Teale I wouldn't mind, not the others though. Especially Fagan.

A bloke made a good point on one of the Derby messageboards saying that it's unlikely that the deal will go through until the 3rd.

What Jewell said yesterday on the radio was that New Years Day is a holiday for those at the FA and deals can't go through because of this. Secondly, we have Bolton on the 2nd and are down to the bare bones, leaving us with Miller and Macken as the only out and out strikers. So I'm not sure whether the deal will go through until then.

Just thought I'd mention.

LIKELY MOVES: Jewell could be tempted to pick up where predecessor Billy Davies left off with a swoop for Portsmouth's David Nugent, while Shola Ameobi and former Arsenal striker Arturo Lupoli are other options in attack.

QUOTED SKY!

Well Jewells ruled Lupoli out. Ameobi would replace Howard. And as for Nugget, I don't know. They'll all do well next season!!

Three and a half year contract for a 31 year old, when will we learn our lesson? If he wants to come to Leicester he would accept a two and a half year contract, thats as far as we should be going.

:frusty:

As for Barry Hayles lol

I doubt he would want to come for less than 3 and a half year contract, and I can't blame him at his age.

Clear off then Steve. He needs an incentive to prove himself, what a late Christmas present for Mr Howard.

Grow up mate.

Teddy Sheringham.

Dean Windass.

Andy Cole.

Alan Shearer.

All play/played past 34 and have still done ok for themselves.

I think the point being made is that in the past we have had far to many aging players who come with a great reputation but see this as their final big contract and dont have much to play for / proove so are happy to spend time either warming the bench or on the injury list rather than playing out of their skins trying to get us promoted. Douglas being an excellent example of such a player

There are some excellent players who have continued to play out of their skin no matter what age they are, unfortunately with the exception of Sir Les and claridge we rarely get to sign them.

And Sir Les just happened to be on a 1 year contract, then when he left got a decent move to Bolton who were a top half Premiership team at the time.

Look at his record at championship level you fool.

How old was Tony Cottee BTW?

No need for that!!

All the players people are mentioning bar windass were exceptional players at the top level for years. Howard is a journey man who has done well the last couple of years, so it's unfair to compare him to them.

I think it will be a good signing, but he is 32 in May and will be 35 when his contract is up!!!

Interesting.

I think Howard would be a decent addition, not sure about Hayles though at all.

Howard, if he gets teh service from wide men, will definitely score goal for us. If he doesn't get that service he'll be as much use as Carl Cort (but maybe slightly better).

Breaking news SSN literally just come on weve agreed to sign Howard for £1.5 million hes having medical now.

Anyone confirm? If true thats smashing news

Not that I distrust you so much as the entire internet, basically.

Is the plan to go up this year and offload them then?

If we get 2 good wingers in I could see this being a half decent idea, crosses coming in, two strikers that are big and can finish (usually).

Also a bit more presence from set pieces.

Hume and Hayes should be playing on the wings. I don't see the problem with this.

At a push. Although I reckon we could be offloading Hume in the window if rumours are true. I'd be wary of relying on Hayes at left-mid for an extended period and so is Holloway. I still think we'll sign at least one, if not two wingers. I also hope Gradel gets a chance when he gets back from Bournemouth...
