Stuliasz Posted 22 December 2007 Posted 22 December 2007 He's by far our most intelligent striker in terms of movement. Fryatt, Hume etc. are players who have to create their own chances but John isn't. Shame his finishing was poor today but with the right kind of service, hopefully he could soon pick up the goalscoring touch.
Kilworthfox Posted 22 December 2007 Posted 22 December 2007 Collins John is rubbish, we all love to have premiership strikers at City but tbh he isn't one, if he was he would have scored at least one of the three good chances he had today, ship him back to fulham our youngsters are better, sappleton or odhiambo could've got themselves on the scoresheet today. And the i go and spoil it all by saying something stupid like get the kids in

No-one else gets in the positions to get chances like he had today. Very disappointing finishing but it was his first start back after injury. Hopefully his form will pick up. We look more dangerous going forward with him in the team. Today just exposed our lack of a midfield yet again in the second half. There's only so much of a game you can play with no midfielders who are comfortable on the ball.

You are part of the problem, not the solution. How can you draw such blanket conclusions from his first game back?

His anticipation is there just a bit off of the pace. some fans on here are so quick to judge a guy who is young, proven, and a dutch intl FFS! What more so you guys want? yeah he missed 2 chances, Lineker did miss some also guys lets not go OTT about this guys 1st game back

It was nice to see someone looking to go in behind, something that Fryatt and Hume don't do. He took the balls in his stride excellently, shows he has ability.
dandannieldanok Posted 22 December 2007 Posted 22 December 2007 I say if Megson still wants him then he can have him, I don't care how 'intelligent' he is a striker's job is to stick it into the back of the net, he's failed to do it at crucial times. Atm I'd say we have no-one here reliable enough, maybe DJ when fit again, to do that despite our plethora of strikers. Thankfully Ollie has adressed this problem and it is a near certainty at least one striker will passs through the revolving door.
Brainy Posted 22 December 2007 Posted 22 December 2007 Lets keep him. He may not of been 100% tonight but his finishing was poor.

John looked the only real threat throughout. He's good off the ball, and he'll get sharper with games. We need to keep him or at least get someone in with similar qualities!

Boycie Posted 22 December 2007 Posted 22 December 2007 Keep him, I think him n Hume will be are main threat in matches. John is quick strong and when he is in the mood he can certainly finish.
Kilworthfox Posted 22 December 2007 Posted 22 December 2007 What I cannot understand about some people on here is that John has but in some good performances and average ones and people say send him back! Then there are the others that go on about players like Cort and Elvis who have 3 max decent performances between them and they believe in keeping the guys or at least more time for them! Astounded! Are some fans really stupid or is it questionable judgement? I understand that this is an emotional busness supporting ones team but ...................................
Boycie Posted 22 December 2007 Posted 22 December 2007 I personally believe that Cort has a future at the club the Chelsea game shown that. As for Hammond, may aswell release him and pay the compensation for it, because no club with sense would take him.
Ultra Posted 22 December 2007 Posted 22 December 2007 His record of TWO goals in two months isn't really what we were looking for. If he could stay fit and in form, he would be a great asset to us, but at the moment he seems unable to do this. Too many of his supporters are judging him on past glories at Fulham rather than what he's achieved for us. Unless he comes good in the next three games I see no reason why Holloway should extend his loan.
Ultra Posted 22 December 2007 Posted 22 December 2007 I personally believe that Cort has a future at the club the Chelsea game shown that. Except his performances in several games since then have convinced Holloway that he's a liability who should find another club as soon as possible.

I'd tend to agree. You can't live off the back of one performance for so long. He has shown glimpses but nowhere near the consistency we need.

He got into good positions today, but is obviously still rusty. I agree that we should only keep him if he stays fit.
Simi Posted 22 December 2007 Posted 22 December 2007 His laziness irritates me. He made it so easy for Wolves to defend at times when he'd just walk across their defence and stay in an offside position. It allowed Wolves to squeeze the game much more and put a lot more pressure on us in the middle.

The one thing I would say is that it needs one of your strikers to be lazy so that they are in the right position when the chances come. The main reason Hume, Fryatt etc. don't find themselves in goalscoring positions that often are that they work hard to come deep, win the ball etc. and where are they then to finish off chances? I think the system today was good as it allowed for both.

BedsFox Posted 22 December 2007 Posted 22 December 2007 He is still half fit and needed to convert one of his two one on ones today Very frustrating player Not that answer for me, hope we can sign a real finisher
Daz.I Posted 22 December 2007 Posted 22 December 2007 he got himself into some great positions today but his finishing was poor. Lazy doesn't want to win the ball ever.
