WetFlannel Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 At the moment we seem to be struggling in front of goal, but I've always mantained our strikers were more than good enough. Now with two new additions, I dont know many teams that could rival the strength in depth we have... Steve Howard Collins John Iain Hume Matty Fryatt Barry Hayles Dj Campbell Carl Cort (although seems to be leaving) In my opinion, I don't think any team in this division can match that, and if we provided the service, we would be up the other end of the table. Each of these strikers have at least 15 goals within them, with the exception of Cort, and with the versatility they provide perhaps we could still be on track for a good finish. If we get some adequate wingers and a midfield that can create things, this could potentially lead towards a very good promotion push; albeit not this season...
Plymouth Pete Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 Holloway seems to like big centre forwards and centre halfs. He was always on about a beast of a centre half when he was with us.

DB11 Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 I wonder if Kisnorbo counts? He's big and strong without being so much like that that his mobility suffers. And N'Gotty
WetFlannel Posted 31 December 2007 Author Posted 31 December 2007 I cant see Hayles being anything more than a substitute, and I would preferably go with Howard and Campbell up front, with perhas Hume dropping deeper? I think Hayles will benefit off the pitch more, in a Mcallister style role whilst at Liverpool...

Now with two new additions, I dont know many teams that could rival the strength in depth we have...Steve Howard (Proven) Collins John (Going back soon anyway) Iain Hume (Not a consistent goalscorer) Matty Fryatt (See Hume) Barry Hayles (Not a player that will get 15 goals a season anymore) Dj Campbell (Pretty much proven) Carl Cort (although seems to be leaving) In my opinion, I don't think any team in this division can match that, and if we provided the service, we would be up the other end of the table. Each of these strikers have at least 15 goals within them, with the exception of Cort, and with the versatility they provide perhaps we could still be on track for a good finish. The strike force really isnt that strong. A lot of players that flatter to deceive, i.e Hume and Fryatt, and then Cort and John who are both leaving, so really, its not that great. The 2 (Fryatt & Hume), are decent, but wont score consistently. In reality we have 2 proven scorers at this level, neither of which have done it over a sustained period of time.

Hume last season wasn't many off Howard... about 14 goals? Thats not a bad return, and im not sure whether he will build on it as hes had a slow start to this season, although seems to be in very good form at the moment. As for Fryatt, I've frequently raised my concerns over him, but hes starting to play well, and surely he will be adequate as a player who looks to be operating on the bench more frequently now. As for Hayles, 14 goals last season was a very good return, considering his age, but i don't think he will be recreating that here. I think he will be useful, but wont provide the same impact as Howard. Then of course is DJ and Howard, who I think will get a fair amount of goals between them, and they will be our main source of goals. I think if we can keep these two fit, then the goals will start becoming a more regular thing.

General Smuts Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 Sheff Utd Beattie Stead Webber Sharp Shelton Hulse Horsfield Wolves Bothroyd Eastwood Ward Elliot Keogh Watford Henderson Priskin Kabba Ellington King Ainsworth Smith Hoskins Point priven yet?
WetFlannel Posted 1 January 2008 Author Posted 1 January 2008 Sheff UtdBeattie (fair enough, he won't be there long) Stead (arent strikers meant to score goals?) Webber (we've got better) Sharp (not impressed yet) Shelton (havent seen much of him) Hulse (good player) Horsfield (whistle speaks for itself) To be honest, I think ours would just edge it... I suppose most people will disagree Wolves Bothroyd (allright player) Eastwood (prefer Howard or Campbell) Ward (weve got better) Elliot (allright player at championship level) Keogh (fair enough) I think we could better them... and Wolves supporters say themselves theyre light in attack Watford Henderson Priskin Kabba Ellington King Ainsworth Smith Hoskins Watford have a good list... Point priven yet? Well... I tried, you can at least admire my optimism
Monk Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 I can't believe I'm posting on Foxestalk at 12.25 am on new years day. How sodding sad is that! The best strike force in the championship is measured by how many goals they are currently scoring. Ipso facto we do not have the best strikeforce in the Championship. Ask me again in 4 months, I suspect the answer will still be a resounding NO.
i luv u foxes Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 hopefully you are correct about the best strikeforcre in the division but only the goals will prove it

Don't forget Elvis, Sappleton and Ashley Chambers from that list!
Asha Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 WolvesBothroyd Eastwood Ward Elliot Keogh Kightly? And that is a good strike force.
WetFlannel Posted 1 January 2008 Author Posted 1 January 2008 Well, maybe if you disagree we have the best in the division, at least it shows how our strikers are more than good enough for this division.
City Fan Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 If the best strikeforce means the strikeforce with the least goals, then yes we have the best! FFS what a ridiculous thread.
Moreton Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 Yes i agree i think that we can leave the strikers and defence which seem pretty solid, and work on the midfield as we need more depth and quality there so the attacking force can get the service.
stevie909 Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 haha i actually can't believe people were posting on this topic at 12:06. if i'd have done that it would have been a load of illegible drunken rubbish.
Mark Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 I'd rather we had the best midfield and a mediocre strikeforce (which in actual fact, that's what I'd say we've got right now) than no midfield at all. Cause unless that part of the team is sorted it simply don't matter who you send up the top end of the pitch.
Bezzanator89 Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 I wonder if Kisnorbo counts? He's big and strong without being so much like that that his mobility suffers. Well, Kisnorbo has scored as many goals as any of our strikers so far this season. Hopefully, Howard and Hayles will chnage that.
