Kill it, Cook it, Eat it

It was on last night at 10.30-11.30 BBC3

Basically outlined how animals are killed in an abbartoire, the methods used etc People were watching behind some glass, and then a butcher cut the meat up when they had killed it, then cooked it and the audience tried some if they wanted to.

Persoannly it wasn't very nice viewing, but I'll still eat meat. Whoever didn't find it disturbing probably isn't normal, it's killing at the end of the day, although it's not human.

Baby goats aswell...cute? :dunno:

Some people just couldn't deal with it, and had to go outside etc, and some perople were loving it!

Apparently its baby Calves tonight (veal)

Presenter isn;t too bad either..

It's been a prelude to Family Guy on BBC 3, so I've watched both of them this week. It does make disturbing viewing although it's interesting to see how meat is prepared.

I can imagine quite a few going off meat after watching it.

Nope. It still tastes the same.

Neither me. Still disturbing nonethless.

I think tonights episode will be worse, as the animal is bigger, aka more blood when they slit the throat etc.

Also goat - sounds disgusting, bet its like lamb which im not a fan of at all

To be fair, I like to eat meat whilst it's still moving.

Steak tartare, anyone?

Seriously, if watching a programme like this is gonna put you off eating meat then why the fook were you eating it in the first place?

You knew the basics of what happened.

Animals get carved into plate size pieces of meat, job done.

Apparently, people don't though. That is quite sad.

The way I look at it is that I'm a carnavore so have to put uyp with the nastiness of obtaining my food. Somebody once said to me 'If you eat meat you have to be willing to kill the animal first.'

If for instance a few off here were stranded on a desert island (reality TV again) and all there was on the island was sheep one or more of us would have to take the responsibility of killing one. If it was me I'd want everyone else to watch or they would not get any of it. I'd let them forage for berrys, mushrooms and green stuff taking pot luck whether they were poisoness. At least with lamb its a good feast. Oh and those having salad can find the mint for the sauce too. :scarf:

And I'll also smack my lips and slobber in front of the veggies . :crylaugh:

so you eat no veg or fruit at all? i'm an omnivore; i eat fruit, veg, fungus' and meat. regarding the programme, i've not watched it becaue i heard a clip and it was so earnest i nearly vomited just listening to it

our insatiable lust for young flesh
this pig weighs little mare than a human baby

ok love!

i was watching hugh's chicken run, and though i agree with the principle, i'd like my meat to've lived as happy a life as possible, he fails, constantly, to recognise that to some people cheap meat (and other food) is the difference between their family having enough to eat and not. the price of everything is going up and up and up, so you can never look at anything in isolation and tell peole they should be doing your thing, a family budget covers many different requirements.

I didn't mean I just eat meat, but meat is a main part of my diet. I believe I was born with caravores teeth as most human beings are. We are natually hunters in the primeval sense. I didn't watch the program cos it didn't look that appealing. I may be too old and set in my ways to be put off by it but still not what I'd call TV entertainment. I've seen or at least heard about all the bad things that go on in the world during my lifetime so little shocks me.

Nothing unusual!! I just got back from the mighty Punjab, and all the meat we cooked at home was killed, you buy the meat alive and the butcher kills it!!

Even more fun is free range stuff, we would by a chicken free range and kill it ourselves and cook it while the body was warm!! I have taken a video of this if anyone wants to watch it!!

I must say the meat is alot tastier etc!!!

If you want a good read and description read Jon Steinbecks Grapes Of Wrath (I think) Basically its set in the American depression and about a family traveling across America. One part describes how a pig is slaughtered, cut up, salted then hung up to cure. Very good read but depressive. Not read it for a while. Will have to dig it out.

that's unlucky for you! i've got teeth for tearing meat off a bone and for grinding vegetable matter (which is fairly important in digestion). we are naturally hunter/gatherers, hence being omnivores
