SamL Posted 3 February 2008 Posted 3 February 2008 Campbell needs to be given a run of games to get himself going. He is by far the quickest forward we have got and his pace will scare defences, if we get balls played to his feet so he can run at people. Agreed. He showed a glimpse of what he can do against Palace but, is it worth risking playing him from the start if he's not fully fit? Considering his bad luck with injuries, I wouldn't take the risk. Maybe in a game or two.

We've risked Zsolts & Gabor when they are clearly unfit and are likely to need more stamina than Campbell will playing up front.
lildave3 Posted 3 February 2008 Posted 3 February 2008 Alnwick Chambers McAuley Kisnorbo Mattock Bori Oakley Clemence Laczko Howard Campbell
David O'Leary Posted 3 February 2008 Posted 3 February 2008 Alnwick Chambers McAuley Kisnrbo ClaphamBori Oakley Clemence Laczko Hume Hayles Subs: Henderson, Stearman, DJ, Mattock, Weslowski I thought Chambers had a decent game against Blackpool, and Stearman hasn't kept up his good form from a bit ago so he drops to the bench. Also dropping Howard because his main job is to win the headers when the ball is lumped up to him from the center backs and during the first half I can only remember him winning 2 headers. Hume is definatly (sp?) a wasted talent out on the wing so I would play him in his natural attacking midfielder role. I would also give DJ the last 15-20 minutes depending on how the team are playing.
SamL Posted 3 February 2008 Posted 3 February 2008 We've risked Zsolts & Gabor when they are clearly unfit and are likely to need more stamina than Campbell will playing up front. That is a good point but, are they as injury prone as Campbell? I think we should give him a good 30 minute run out against Plymouth then think about playing him from the start against Watford.
Tommeh Posted 3 February 2008 Posted 3 February 2008 AlnwickChambers McAuley Kisnorbo Mattock Bori Oakley Clemence Laczko Howard Campbell Thats the squirrel I'd play. This really is Plymouths cup final isn't it!!! I an just hear the "1-nil in your cup final" from L1 if we take the lead Although if they do I can hear the "Ollie, whats the score" from them.
Lillehamring Posted 3 February 2008 Posted 3 February 2008 but wasn't hume scoring a goal a game just before he got dumped onto the right wing? seems such a shame as it had taken him a while to get back in the habit.. or did he have that run of goals from the wing? this is interesting we are ranked 13th on current form, plymouth have the worst current form in the league... now i'm scared!

The Reverend Posted 3 February 2008 Posted 3 February 2008 well Chambers is just as good, am I the only 1 that wouldn't mind seeing Stearman used as a CB for a couple of games? Yes. but wasn't hume scoring a goal a game just before he got dumped onto the right wing? seems such a shame as it had taken him a while to get back in the habit.. or did he have that run of goals from the wing?this is interesting we are ranked 13th on current form, plymouth have the worst current form in the league... now i'm scared! Where did you get that from? Might be wrong, but i find that hard to believe.
Lillehamring Posted 3 February 2008 Posted 3 February 2008 Yes.Where did you get that from? Might be wrong, but i find that hard to believe. um, not saying it was a long run, but didn't he nick three in three, after not scoring for ages, tried to find it on the OS, but....quelle surprise! EDIT: Leicester City's final away game of 2007 ended with a 1-1 draw against Wolves at Molineux on Saturday evening. Iain Hume's fourth goal in five games had handed the visitors an early advantage but their Midlands rivals pegged the Foxes back in the second half with Matt Jarvis levelling in the 73rd minute. source

I stand corrected. Surprised me though that. Is it a case to get him up top? I think so, with Howard.
SamL Posted 3 February 2008 Posted 3 February 2008 He played 45 yesterday though? Oh, fair enough pal. I must've missed that then. In my opinion, a fully fit Campbell is the best man to play alongside Howard because he has the pace to get to the flick ons and can generally unsettle defences.
reynard Posted 3 February 2008 Posted 3 February 2008 This is a MUST win game. Our away form is terrible and we need at least another 6 wins to stay in this division. They will be really up for it but their current form is terrible. The game will be scrappy as the pitch is crap> Clemence said himself on the radio that fans should not expect good football on that pitch so expect more long ball hump it in the air. I just hope we don't play Hume wide right. if he is to play he has to start up front. If Dj is fit he probably should start though as he at least has some pace and it is time he started to pay back what we spent on him
WetFlannel Posted 3 February 2008 Posted 3 February 2008 We've risked Zsolts & Gabor when they are clearly unfit and are likely to need more stamina than Campbell will playing up front. Exactly, they havent looked same. If we were to this to Campbell, would it be worth it? He seems like hes coming back though, and I think hes worth a punt.
Lillehamring Posted 3 February 2008 Posted 3 February 2008 Ah. I stand corrected. Surprised me though that.Is it a case to get him up top? I think so, with Howard. it seemed a bit knee jerk to start hayles, who has done ok i guess, but hume did hit some real goalscoring form in december... mind you, that was before howard came, so who knows what they would be like together. i still think hayles is a much better player coming off the bench, i kmow a lot of people rated him against palace, but i thought he was ineffective... and campbell is still coming back from injury.... hume up front at home, well at least the crowd might get involved, and he certainly seems to want to play....
Trav Le Bleu Posted 3 February 2008 Posted 3 February 2008 If Clapham is fit and we're going to stick with Laczko - then Clapham should play ahead of Mattock. Mattock has been good all season, but has suffererd from a lack of protection by Zsolt's reluctance to track back. Would like DJ to get a run out with Howard on a consistent basis. Once he gets his eye in, they will be a good partnership! Alnwick Chambers - N'Gotty - Skip - Clapham Bori - Clemence - Oakley - Laczko DJ - Howard
WetFlannel Posted 3 February 2008 Posted 3 February 2008 It seems Mattock generally struggles away from home. His home form is usually good, so I think I'd stick with him. Thank the lord we are playing Plymouth after their recent exodus, so we should be more than capable of beating them.

They've got a fair bit of motivation to put in a really tenacious display.

Plymouth Pete Posted 3 February 2008 Posted 3 February 2008 You can count on three points Saturday, we were absolute rubbish against Hull, never looked like scoring. Norris and SEB have gone and of the new signings one is injured and one suspended, so even if available they have never played in England before, one Scot one Hungarian. Ollie was right to leave, the board have sold his team and the fans down the river.

davieG Posted 3 February 2008 Posted 3 February 2008 Our last few games have been Shite v's Shite I wouldn't bet tuppence on which shite is more shite than the other shite - I thnik you get my drift

When Ollie left I was assured by an Argyle mate that you'd sell out the allocation for the Walkers but now says him and plenty of others aren't going due to Sky and Ollie hate being replaced with general disillusionment about the club.

I'm guessing they'll bring alot down... Im sure theyve been sharpening their knives for weeks.
