davieG Posted 5 February 2008 Posted 5 February 2008 0:30 - 02 February 2008 Asfordby Amateurs have pulled off arguably the transfer coup of the season in local football by snapping up former Leicester City midfielder Sam McMahon. The 31-year-old, who was tipped as "the next best thing" when he started out at City as a teenager, has signed from King's Lynn and goes straight into the Amateurs line-up for their match against Lutterworth Athletic today. A delighted manager Stu Dealey said: "It's a fantastic signing, he is probably the biggest name in the senior league, and it shows how ambitious the club is in wanting to progress and getting promoted to the Everards Premier league." McMahon made seven appearances for City between 1994 and 1998 but never fulfilled his potential before moving on to Cambridge United briefly and Stevenage Borough where he made more than 100 appearances between 1999 and 2003. He also had a spell at Burton Albion.
Tevez Posted 5 February 2008 Posted 5 February 2008 Asfordby has enough money to sign McMahon so i'm not suprised which Senior League team.
Floating Fox Posted 5 February 2008 Posted 5 February 2008 Ashfordby are shite though. You'd think he'd go to a decent Senior League Outfit.
Hullfox Posted 5 February 2008 Posted 5 February 2008 The 31-year-old, who was tipped as "the next best thing" when he started out at City as a teenager, Wonder who could have been guilty of that then.....
GianEmmo Zola Posted 5 February 2008 Posted 5 February 2008 played 1 game for coalville a few years back, he got booked in that game and we never seen him again!!
Samu Posted 6 February 2008 Posted 6 February 2008 I know Sam quite well as my mum is his boss. He works at Rushey Mead school and my mum is the head teacher there. I remember when my mum appointed him she rang me telling they had an ex city player! He has been playing for Kings Lynn the last few years and played for them live on Sky last year in the second round of the FA Cup against Oldham. I think he's about 32 now but he's still enjoying his football!

Dr The Singh Posted 6 February 2008 Posted 6 February 2008 We used to play at the same sunday league team when we were 15, he supposedly had a alot promise, it's a shame he didn't make more out of his career!!
Samu Posted 6 February 2008 Posted 6 February 2008 What the heck does he do?Listen to the kids read? Or is he the caretaker? I'm not quite sure of his exact job title as I haven't worked there for a while but he works mainly with the not so well behaved kids. According to my mum he's pretty damn good at it all too!
Durnerz Posted 6 February 2008 Posted 6 February 2008 F'kinell! He plays in the league below the one I was in last season!

Dr The Singh Posted 6 February 2008 Posted 6 February 2008 Who did you play for last year? Foxestalk O21's!!
Durnerz Posted 6 February 2008 Posted 6 February 2008 Who did you play for last year? Loughborough Falcons. Everards Premier Division.
Floating Fox Posted 6 February 2008 Posted 6 February 2008 Loughborough Falcons.Everards Premier Division. Never Heard of them. They certainly weren't in the Everards Senior Premier Division last year either
Durnerz Posted 6 February 2008 Posted 6 February 2008 Never Heard of them. They certainly weren't in the Everards Senior Premier Division last year either They were. If it is the right one and Everards don't sponsor another league. We played Asfordby i'm sure last season beating them 3-1. The league is of a semi-pro standard anyway really with teams like Quorns, Barrow Town etc players playing in that league for their mates sunday teams. Our team was mainly formed of Quorn and Bardon players.
