Stoke City are in the market for a new loan goalkeeper after Marton Fulop was recalled by Sunderland.

Fulop only joined the Championship leaders last Friday and was on the bench for the 1-0 win over Ipswich Town at the weekend.

He was expected to challenge Steve Simonsen for a starting spot at the Britannia Stadium, but has been summoned back to Wearside.

An injury to Darren Ward has prompted Sunderland's decision, leaving Stoke with a frantic search to bring in a replacement before Tuesday's trip to Preston North End.

Disappointed

"We are obviously disappointed that Marton has been recalled, but there is nothing we can do about that," director of football John Rudge told Stoke's official website.

"Hopefully we will sign another goalkeeper some time today, in time for tonight's game at Preston North End."

Fulop has yet to make a first-team appearance for Sunderland this season after spending the first half of the campaign on loan at Leicester City.

I have two names to name:

Robert "Rab the Dab" Douglas

Paul Henderson

Two highly talented and rated goalkeepers.

Available for free (a fee would still be nice, though).

Stoke City have signed Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Carlo Nash on loan after Marton Fulop was recalled by Sunderland.

Stoke and Bristol City at the top of the league.... says it all really... neither club is really a top team in this division and oughtn't be up there on paper but they have just been working together as a unit and thats why they are doing well.

If they went up though, I can see them both doing a Derby. They just aren't good enough...

As for the Fulop/Nash saga at Stoke... its laughable really... but I'm not that fussed really... I'm glad that Stoke haven't got him as I don't like them at all.

Not sure if this has been posted anywhere yet but here it is.

Fresh from the BBC website

Stoke City are chasing an on-loan goalkeeper after Sunderland recalled Hungarian Marton Fulop from his loan.

On Tuesday, City published a story on their official website claiming they had signed Wigan's Carlo Nash on loan - but then removed the story.

Nash, 34, has made 233 league appearances for seven clubs - including Preston, Stoke's opponents on Tuesday.

The departure of Fulop, 24, has left the Potters with Steve Simonsen as their only experienced keeper.

Fulop joined Stoke on loan last Friday and was on the bench for the 1-0 win over Ipswich, but has been recalled by the Black Caps because of an injury to back-up keeper Darren Ward.

Potters veteran Russell Hoult has just gone out on loan at Notts County, but will not be returning to the Britannia Stadium

Typical... mind you, I'm not surprised...

Stoke aren't really that good so them losing to Preston is no great shock.

I mean come on... Stoke are top and Bristol City second... dear god this league is falling apart!

Out of all this mess I feel sorry for Fulop, a young international whos now in danger of losing his place in the national squad. When he was with us he was getting regular football but RK recalling him was a mistake as hes not playing any game time with sunderland and as soon as darran ward's fit again Fulop won't even be on the subs bench for sunderland. RK should of sold him for a smaller price than £3mil or left him on loan with us because with what littles left of this season I doubt he'll find another club to go on loan with now too probly meaning he'll be left to rot in the sunderland reserves >_< I hope RK does give him at least one premiershit outing though as it'd be good for his morale. Or failing that send him back out to us
